Amazon Seller Account Suspension in India (2026): The Reasons, What a Plan of Action Contains, and How to Never Need One

By Blooprint team ยท Published 25 September 2026 ยท 8 min read

Key takeaways

  • Amazon.in deactivates seller accounts for performance breaches (ODR above 1%, late shipment above 4%), policy violations, IP complaints, inauthentic claims and related accounts.
  • The Account Health Rating runs from 0 to 1,000; 200 or above is healthy, 100 to 199 at risk, and 99 or below is eligible for deactivation.
  • A plan of action has three parts, root cause, corrective action and preventive steps, and Amazon rejects generic or copied appeals.
  • Opening a second account while the first is under review is itself a suspension reason, because Amazon links related accounts.

An Amazon.in seller account is deactivated for a short list of reasons, and almost all of them show up in the Account Health dashboard days or weeks before the email arrives. This guide sets out those reasons as of September 2026, what Amazon expects in a plan of action if it does happen, and the routine that keeps an account out of that position in the first place.

One thing to be clear about before we start. Blooprint does not offer standalone suspended-account reinstatement. There are consultants who do only that; we are not one of them. What we do is manage accounts so that suspension does not happen: metrics watched daily, violations answered within the window, listings kept compliant. If your account is already deactivated, this guide will tell you what Amazon is asking for, and you should write the appeal yourself or with a specialist. Amazon's own help pages are the source for the thresholds; where Amazon.in does not publish a number we say so. Checked 25 September 2026.

How do the performance metrics lead to deactivation?

Amazon's seller performance targets are the same across marketplaces: Order Defect Rate under 1%, Late Shipment Rate under 4%, pre-fulfilment cancel rate under 2.5%, Valid Tracking Rate over 95%. Third-party account health guides we read confirm the 1% ODR and 4% LSR figures as the lines that materially lower the rating. ODR is the one that ends accounts: it is measured over 60 days of orders, so one bad fortnight on a low-volume account can push it over 1% and keep it there for two months.

For a seller doing 400 orders in 60 days, four defects (a negative feedback, two A-to-Z claims and a chargeback) is exactly 1%. For 4,000 orders it is forty. Small sellers are far closer to the line than they think, which is why the prevention routine below starts with responding to every message within 24 hours: an A-to-Z claim usually begins as an unanswered message. Our Amazon account health guide explains each metric and its window in detail.

How does the Account Health Rating work?

The Account Health Rating is a score from 0 to 1,000 that tracks policy violations rather than performance metrics. Amazon's help describes three bands: green, healthy, at 200 to 1,000; yellow, at risk, at 100 to 199; and red, unhealthy, at 99 or lower, where the account is eligible for deactivation or already deactivated. Every violation deducts points scaled to its severity; a critical violation (for example, a restricted product or review manipulation) can take the score to zero on its own. Points recover as violations are resolved and as time passes with none new.

The practical rule is that the rating measures your response as much as the violation. A listing-policy notice that is fixed and acknowledged within days costs a few points that come back; the same notice ignored for three weeks keeps deducting and sits on your history. In the US, Amazon offers an Account Health Assurance programme that promises not to deactivate an account if the seller works with a specialist for 72 hours to resolve the issue; that programme is not offered on Amazon.in as of September 2026.

Intellectual property complaints

A brand or its agent files a complaint that your listing infringes a trademark (using a brand name or logo), a copyright (their images or text) or a patent. The listing comes down first and questions are asked later. One complaint is a violation; repeated complaints, or one for counterfeiting, can deactivate the account. The defence is either a retraction from the rights owner, proof of authorisation, or proof that the listing did not infringe. Resellers should keep a distributor authorisation letter on file for every brand they list.

Inauthentic and counterfeit claims

Amazon asks for invoices from a manufacturer or authorised distributor covering the units sold in the last 365 days, showing your business name and address, with the supplier's contact details. Retail receipts, invoices from another marketplace and edited PDFs are rejected. If you cannot produce a supply chain, the listing stays down. Own-brand sellers should have Brand Registry and a manufacturing invoice trail; resellers should buy from distributors who issue proper GST invoices.

Related accounts

Amazon's policy is one account per seller unless there is a legitimate business need. It links accounts by identity documents, bank accounts, addresses, phone numbers, devices, tax details and staff who log in to both. The third-party guides we read are blunt that Amazon finds related accounts routinely and suspends them for the link alone. The most common way an Indian seller triggers this is opening a second account "to keep selling" while the first is under review, or letting a relative open one from the same office and bank.

What does Amazon expect in a plan of action?

When an account is deactivated, the notice says what Amazon needs: supporting documents (invoices, authorisations, proof of identity) or a plan of action, or both. A plan of action is a short, specific document with three parts, and every guide we read, and every reinstatement notice we have seen, describes the same structure:

  1. Root cause. What in your operation caused the problem, stated as a process failure rather than an excuse. "Our packing team had no checklist, so 3% of orders shipped with the wrong variant" is a root cause; "the courier was slow" is not.
  2. Corrective actions. What you have already done about it, with evidence: the checklist, the deleted listings, the refunds issued, the supplier changed.
  3. Preventive measures. What will stop it recurring and how you will know: a weekly review of the metric, a named owner, a threshold that triggers action.

The guides we read stress the things that get an appeal rejected: copying a template, pasting a previous appeal, arguing with Amazon's finding, blaming customers, and writing at length. Amazon reads for whether you understood what went wrong and changed something concrete. A plan of action for an ODR breach that does not mention how you will handle customer messages within 24 hours has missed the point.

Do not open a second account while the first is under review. Do not submit the same appeal twice. Do not delete listings Amazon has asked about until the case closes. Each of these turns a recoverable case into a permanent one.

What routine keeps an Amazon.in account healthy?

FrequencyTaskWhy
DailyAnswer every buyer message within 24 hours; check Account Health for new violationsUnanswered messages become A-to-Z claims; violations lose points every day they sit
DailyConfirm shipment on every seller-fulfilled order by the expected ship date with a scannable tracking IDLate shipment and valid tracking are counted per order
DailySync stock so you never cancel for stock-outPre-fulfilment cancellations count against you; customer-initiated ones do not
WeeklyRead ODR, LSR, cancel rate and VTR with their windows; act at half the thresholdWindows are 60 and 30 days, so a bad week takes two months to leave
WeeklyReview negative feedback and A-to-Z claims for a pattern (one ASIN, one courier, one packer)Defects cluster; fix the cluster, not the case
MonthlyAudit listings against policy: claims in titles, restricted keywords, images, category rulesListing policy violations are the commonest deduction on the rating
MonthlyCheck invoice files for every ASIN cover the last 12 months of salesAn inauthentic claim gives you days to produce them
QuarterlyRe-verify business documents, bank details and GST on the account are currentExpired documents trigger verification holds

A useful rupee frame: an account doing Rs 20 lakh a month that is deactivated for three weeks loses about Rs 14 lakh of sales, plus the FBA stock sitting unsellable and the organic rank that has to be rebuilt afterwards. The daily routine above is perhaps three hours a week. That is the case for treating account health as an operations job rather than a fire to fight, and it is the core of our Amazon account management service.

FAQ

What ODR gets an Amazon account suspended? Amazon's target is under 1% over 60 days. Going above it does not deactivate the account automatically, but it puts the account at risk and Amazon may ask for a plan of action.

How long does Amazon take to review an appeal? Amazon does not publish a timeline for India. First responses often arrive within a few days; complex cases involving invoices or IP can take weeks and several rounds.

Can I open a new Amazon account if mine is suspended? No. Amazon links accounts by identity, bank, address and device, and a related account is a suspension reason in itself.

Does Blooprint reinstate suspended accounts? No. We do not offer standalone reinstatement. We manage accounts so that metrics stay healthy and violations are cleared within the window; if you are already deactivated, this guide tells you what Amazon expects in the appeal.

What is a healthy Account Health Rating? 200 or above on the 0 to 1,000 scale. 100 to 199 is at risk; 99 or below is eligible for deactivation.

Do FBA orders count against my ODR? Yes for negative feedback about the product and for chargebacks; shipping-related metrics like late shipment apply only to orders you fulfil yourself.

Keeping the account you have

Every suspension reason above is visible in Account Health before it becomes a deactivation, which means every one of them is preventable with a routine. If you would rather have that routine run by a team that watches the dashboard every day, answers notices inside the window and keeps listings and invoices compliant, see our Amazon account management service.
