Amazon DSP is Amazon's demand-side platform for buying programmatic display, video and audio ads. For Australian sellers, the honest position as of October 2026 is that Amazon's seller advertising page for Australia lists Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display only, and does not mention DSP. Amazon's global DSP page mentions self-service and managed-service options but states no country list and no minimum spend. So availability and minimums for your account need to be confirmed with Amazon Ads directly.

Amazon DSP in Australia: What It Is, What Amazon Publishes, and Whether Sellers Need It

Key takeaways
- Amazon's seller advertising page for Australia lists Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display, and does not mention Amazon DSP at all.
- Amazon's global DSP page describes self-service and managed-service options but does not state country availability or a minimum spend.
- Do not trust a minimum spend figure quoted on an agency blog: US and UK figures get copied onto Australian pages. Ask Amazon Ads for the current Australian terms.
- For most sellers on Amazon.com.au, Sponsored Display covers retargeting and audience ads without a DSP account.

What is Amazon DSP?
A demand-side platform lets an advertiser buy ad placements programmatically, across many sites and apps, using audience data. Amazon DSP does this using Amazon's shopper signals, and it can reach people on Amazon properties and on third-party sites and apps. It is aimed at brand and upper-funnel reach as well as retargeting. Its reporting, audiences and creative formats are more extensive than the seller console offers.
Amazon's global page describes DSP as offered "with self-service and managed-service options". It does not explain in that text how the two differ, and it does not mention Australia.
Is Amazon DSP available in Australia?
Amazon has not publicly confirmed current DSP availability and terms for Australian advertisers. What is on the record:
- Amazon's seller-facing advertising page for Amazon.com.au names three ad types: Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display.
- Amazon's global DSP page does not name a country list.
- Older trade coverage and agency posts quote DSP terms, but none of them is an Amazon page for Australia, so they are history or opinion, not current terms.
If you need a firm answer, contact Amazon Ads through your advertising console or an Amazon Ads partner, and ask for current Australian availability in writing.
Self-serve versus managed service
| Self-service | Managed service | |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs campaigns | You or your agency, inside the DSP interface | Amazon's team sets up and runs them |
| Typical buyer | Advertisers with programmatic skills or an agency | Brands wanting Amazon to execute |
| Published Australian minimum | Not published by Amazon | Not published by Amazon |
You will see figures online for DSP minimum spends. Some are for the US, some for the UK, and some are agency opinions on what is "worth it". None of them is a published Australian minimum, so this page does not repeat them. Amazon's own global page says only that sponsored ads are cost-per-click "with no minimum spend", and it states no minimum for programmatic campaigns. Ask for the current figure before you plan around any number.
How is DSP different from Sponsored Display?
Amazon describes Sponsored Display as "a self-service display advertising solution" that runs programmatic ads across Amazon and third-party sites. It is inside the same console you use for Sponsored Products, and you buy it by setting a budget and bid. For most Australian sellers, it covers the common display jobs:
- retargeting shoppers who viewed your product
- targeting similar or complementary products
- audience-based reach
DSP typically adds wider inventory, more audience tools and more creative formats, and is usually bought through a separate interface. Our Sponsored Display guide covers the console option in detail.
Does a seller on Amazon.com.au need DSP?
Probably not yet, if any of these are true:
- You have not yet got Sponsored Products profitable. Search ads convert shoppers who are already looking, and they are the usual first spend.
- Your catalogue is small, and your budget is under what a programmatic buy needs to learn from.
- You are not Brand Registered. Brand Registry is needed for Sponsored Brands.
DSP becomes a sensible conversation when you have a profitable base of search ads, a brand with repeat demand, creative assets for display or video, and a budget you can commit for months. It also suits sellers who want to reach shoppers off Amazon, or who plan large launches and events.
What do you need in place before any Amazon ads?
Whichever product you end up using, the account basics come first. Amazon requires an active Professional seller account for all Amazon Ads on Amazon.com.au, and the Professional plan costs A$49.95 a month excluding GST plus selling fees. Brand Registry is free and needs a trade mark and the brand name on your products or packaging. It opens Sponsored Brands, Stores and Brand Analytics, which are the tools that most brand owners should use before they think about programmatic buying. If your listings are weak or you are out of stock often, DSP will only buy you more traffic to a page that does not convert, so fix that first. Our Amazon Ads guide for Australia gives the full order of operations.
How do I find out what applies to my account?
- Log in to your Amazon Ads console and look for a DSP or "Get started" entry. If you do not see one, that is a data point, not a final answer.
- Contact Amazon Ads support or your account contact and ask three things in writing: is DSP available to my Australian advertiser account, is it self-service, managed or both, and what is the current minimum spend for each.
- If you work with an agency, ask which DSP access it has and whether it bills on a percentage of spend or a flat fee.
- Ask what reporting and audience data you get, and who owns the data if you leave.
- Compare the answer with what Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display can do for much less commitment.
What does DSP cost?
Amazon's global page does not state a price model for DSP beyond referring to self-service and managed-service options. Programmatic ads are commonly bought on cost per thousand impressions (CPM), unlike the cost-per-click billing in Sponsored Products. In the Australian seller advertising page, Amazon says sponsored ads are billed per click. For a general picture of ad costs, read how much Amazon ads cost in Australia. If a provider quotes a DSP fee, ask whether it covers media only, platform fees, or management as well.
What should you ask an agency that pitches DSP?
Ask which platform access it uses, whether it bills a percentage of media or a flat fee, what the minimum commitment and contract length are, and what it reports on beyond impressions. Ask for the Australian terms, not a global deck, and for a plan that says what success looks like in sales, not reach alone. A pitch that cannot answer these in writing is a reason to wait.
FAQ
Is Amazon DSP available in Australia? Amazon's Australian seller advertising page lists only Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display, and its global DSP page names no countries. Confirm availability for your account with Amazon Ads directly, as of October 2026 Amazon has published no public Australian confirmation.
What is the minimum spend for Amazon DSP in Australia? Amazon does not publish an Australian minimum publicly. Figures quoted online are usually US or UK numbers or agency opinions. Ask Amazon Ads for the current figure in writing.
What is the difference between self-service and managed-service DSP? Self-service means you or your agency run campaigns in the DSP interface. Managed service means Amazon's team runs them for you. Amazon's global page mentions both options but does not detail the terms.
Can a small Australian seller use Amazon DSP? Possibly, but it is rarely the first step. Sponsored Products and Sponsored Display need no separate platform and bill per click, so they let you learn at lower commitment.
Is Sponsored Display the same as Amazon DSP? No. Sponsored Display is a self-service ad type inside the seller advertising console. DSP is a separate platform with wider inventory and tools. Both are programmatic display products.
Do I need Brand Registry for Amazon DSP? Amazon has not published an Australian rule. Sponsored Brands and Stores need Brand Registry on Amazon.com.au. For DSP, ask Amazon Ads what your account type requires.
Decide with real terms in hand
Get Australian availability and minimums in writing, then compare them with what Sponsored Display could do first. If you want help weighing that, Blooprint's Amazon Ads management service can review your account remotely. The Australia hub lists the rest of the ads series.
