To get into Amazon Brand Registry in Australia, you need a pending or registered trade mark for your brand name or logo, issued by the government trade mark office of a country that has an Amazon store, and you must be the trade mark owner. Your brand name, or a logo that contains it, must also be permanently marked on the product or its packaging. Enrolment is free. For most Australian brands the trade mark comes from IP Australia, so that is usually the longest step.

Amazon Brand Registry Australia: Who Qualifies, How to Enrol and What You Get
By Blooprint team ยท Published 20 October 2026 ยท 6 min read
Key takeaways
- Brand Registry is free and needs a pending or registered trade mark for your brand name or logo, held by you as the owner, plus the brand marked on the product or packaging.
- A pending IP Australia application can be enough in some cases, but Amazon words this loosely, so the safe route is to hold an application number before you apply.
- Enrolment unlocks A+ Content, Brand Stores, Sponsored Brands, Vine and Report a Violation, and Amazon offers a new-seller credit of up to A$75,000 on referral fees.
- You can enrol without selling on Amazon yet, and an authorised agent can be added as a user after you, the owner, enrol the brand.

What do you need before you apply?
Amazon lists three things on its Brand Registry page:
- A brand name, or a logo that includes the name, permanently affixed to the product or packaging. A label added only to the Amazon listing does not count.
- A pending or registered trade mark for that name or logo, with the application or registration number from the government office.
- You as the owner of that trade mark. Amazon says an authorised agent can be added as an additional user after the owner enrols the brand.
Word marks and design marks that contain words, letters or numbers are accepted, and the text in the mark has to match the brand name. A pure picture logo with no text does not fit that description.
You do not need to be selling yet. Amazon says you can enrol even if you do not sell in the Amazon store. Several tools below also need a Professional selling plan, which costs A$49.95 a month excluding GST.
Can you apply with a pending trade mark?
Amazon's page says you must have an active, registered trade mark or a pending application, and adds that "in some cases" you may enrol with a pending registration. The first statement and the second sit uneasily together, and Amazon does not publish the cases publicly.
In practice, plan on holding an IP Australia application number before you apply, and treat acceptance on a pending mark as likely rather than guaranteed. IP Australia says a standard application takes at least 7 months to register, with examination usually 3 to 4 months after filing. Waiting for registration would delay Brand Registry by most of a year, which is why filing first matters. The full filing process, fees and timing are in our guide to the IP Australia trade mark process for Amazon, and the IP Australia trade mark glossary entry explains the terms.

How do you enrol, step by step?
Amazon's enrolment steps:
- Confirm you meet the requirements above.
- Create a Brand Registry account and enter details about your intellectual property and products. Amazon says to have images showing the brand name or logo on the product or packaging ready.
- List the product categories in which your brand should appear.
- If you already have a Seller Central or Vendor Central account, use the same login for Brand Registry.
- Track the application on the Brand Applications page.
Amazon does not publish a review time or the exact checks it runs beyond the eligibility rules. Keep your trade mark number, the mark as filed and clear photos of the product and packaging together, so you can answer a follow-up quickly.
Check this first. The name in your application, the name on the trade mark and the name printed on the product should be identical. Amazon does not publish rejection reasons, but a mismatch is an easy problem to avoid.
What does Brand Registry unlock for an Australian seller?
Amazon lists these benefits on the same page:
| Tool | What it does | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Report a Violation | Self-service search of the Amazon catalogue for possible violations of your active trade marks, copyrights and patents | This page |
| A+ Content | Video, enhanced images and comparison charts on product detail pages | Amazon A+ Content in Australia |
| Brand Stores | A free branded destination in the Amazon store, no coding needed | Amazon Brand Store in Australia |
| Brand Analytics | Aggregated search and purchase data | Amazon Brand Analytics in Australia |
| Project Zero | Self-service removal of counterfeit listings | Transparency and Project Zero in Australia |
Sponsored Brands ads and Stores also require Brand Registry. Vine needs your brand registered in the Australian Brand Registry; see Amazon Vine for Australian sellers.
Report a Violation matters more than it sounds. Amazon says each report strengthens its automated protections, and accurate reporting helps you become eligible for Project Zero. Project Zero asks for use of Report a Violation in the last six months with 90% or higher acceptance, and Amazon expects brands to keep 99% accuracy.
Is there a new-seller incentive for brands?
Yes, with eligibility conditions. Amazon's Brand Registry New Seller Incentive gives a 5% credit on referral fees for the first A$1,500,000 of eligible branded sales, worth up to A$75,000, plus a A$75 credit toward Sponsored ads. Amazon says terms apply, and it does not state GST treatment on the credit on that page, so confirm with your accountant how it appears in your books. Check the current terms in Seller Central before you plan around it.
For illustration only: if eligible branded sales were A$100,000 and the category referral rate were 13%, the standard fee would be A$13,000. A 5% credit on those sales is A$5,000. Referral rates differ by category and price band, so run your own numbers.
What if your application is rejected or stalls?
Amazon does not publish a list of rejection reasons or a service level for Australia. The checks you can control:
- Does the trade mark text match the brand name exactly?
- Are you the owner on the IP Australia record, or is a distributor or director named instead? Ownership by a company means the application should come from that company.
- Does the product or packaging show the brand permanently, and do your photos prove it?
- Is the trade mark in the right country? Amazon asks for a mark from an office tied to an Amazon store, so check which office and country your application lists.
If Brand Registry still will not move, use the support contact inside Brand Registry. Be wary of anyone who promises a certain outcome. We cannot give legal advice, and trade mark questions are best put to a registered trade mark attorney.
FAQ
Is Amazon Brand Registry free in Australia? Yes. Amazon says enrolment is free. You may pay separately for the trade mark itself, which IP Australia charges for, and for a lawyer if you use one. Some tools you use afterwards, such as Vine, have their own fees.
Do I need a registered trade mark, or is pending enough? Amazon accepts a pending application in some cases, and says so on its Brand Registry page. It does not publish which cases. Holding an application number is the minimum, and a registered mark makes approval more predictable.
Can I enrol with an overseas trade mark? Amazon requires a mark issued by the government office of a country with a corresponding Amazon store. Vine specifically asks for registration in the Australian Brand Registry, so an Australian mark is the simplest route for Amazon.com.au.
Can an agency or a lawyer manage Brand Registry for me? The owner enrols first. Amazon says an authorised agent can then be added as an additional user. Keep the owner account in your own name and email so you never lose control of your brand.
Do I need to be selling on Amazon to join? No. Amazon says you can enrol even if you do not sell in the Amazon store. Many tools, such as Sponsored Brands and Vine, still need an active Professional selling account.
Does Brand Registry stop hijackers and counterfeiters? It gives you reporting and removal tools and strengthens automated protection. It does not stop resellers who buy genuine stock legitimately and list it. Counterfeit control is covered in our Project Zero guide.
