Flipkart Ads Guide (2026): PLA, PCA, Smart ROI, Placements, Budgets and ROI

By Blooprint team · Published 24 September 2026 · 10 min read

Key takeaways

  • Flipkart Ads runs on cost per click; PLA targets keywords and placements, PCA targets shoppers by browsing context, and Smart ROI hands bidding to Flipkart against a target ROI.
  • Flipkart reports ROI, not ACoS: a 4x ROI is a 25% ACoS. Agency guides call 3.5x to 5x healthy and quote CPCs of ₹1 to ₹10, higher in festive weeks.
  • The Budget Rule raises a PLA budget automatically when ROI is at least 3 and clicks reach 100; Saarthi, launched 27 August 2026, adds free rules, alerts and agency help.
  • Big Billion Days 2026 opens 9 October with early access on 8 October; CPCs can run two to three times normal, so set pacing and budgets two weeks ahead.

  12. Getting your Flipkart Ads to pay back

Flipkart Ads is the paid placement system inside Flipkart Seller Hub. You pay per click, you choose between keyword-driven Product Listing Ads (PLA) and context-driven Product Contextual Ads (PCA), and for PLA you choose whether to set bids yourself or hand them to Flipkart's Smart ROI algorithm against a target return. As of September 2026 Flipkart publishes the structure of the product but not click prices or benchmarks, so this guide marks which numbers are Flipkart's and which come from agency guides. It also covers the two automation layers Flipkart has added, the Budget Rule and the Saarthi programme, and how to pace spend into Big Billion Days 2026. If you are new to the fee side, read our Flipkart seller fees guide first, because ad spend sits on top of commission, fixed fee and shipping. Ads on quick commerce apps work differently again; our Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart guide covers those.

Flipkart's ad console lives inside Seller Hub; ads.flipkart.com redirects there for sellers and to the brand-side console for vendors. Verify the login path for your account type before you set up billing.

How do Flipkart Ads work?

Every ad on Flipkart is a sponsored version of a listing you already have. There is no separate creative for PLA; the ad is your product tile, marked as sponsored, in one of six placements: homepage, top of search, other search positions, top of browse (category) pages, other browse positions, and product pages. You are charged when a shopper clicks, never for impressions. Flipkart decides which tile wins a slot by weighing your bid against listing quality: rating, review count, images, catalogue completeness and historical conversion. A listing with two hundred reviews and seven images will beat a higher bid from a listing with two images and none.

Ad spend is billed to your seller account and settled against your payouts, and it attracts 18% GST which a registered seller claims as input credit. Reports refresh in Seller Hub several times a day and attribute a sale to the ad that was clicked before it.

PLA or PCA: which should you run?

Start with PLA. A shopper who typed a query is the highest-intent traffic on the platform, and search is where the bulk of Flipkart sales begin. Add PCA once PLA is profitable and you want to reach shoppers who are comparing products in your category rather than searching for yours. Display banners and Brand Store pages are a third tier for launches and festive events and need creative approval.

Smart ROI or manual CPC?

Inside PLA you choose the campaign type at setup and cannot change it later.

  • Manual CPC: you set a bid per ad group, optionally a different bid per placement, and daily or total budget. You control keywords and match types. Flipkart describes this as the option for visibility and newly launched products.
  • Smart ROI: you pick products and enter an expected ROI per ad group; Flipkart's algorithm sets bids and placements to hit it. It runs on a total budget only, not a daily one, and suits products that already have sales history. Flipkart suggests product sets under labels such as ROI Booster, New Listing Visibility, Move Slow Inventory and Beat Competition, or you pick manually.

Guides disagree on whether Smart ROI is offered to sellers, vendors or both; what you see in your own Ads Manager is the answer. Two practical rules from agency experience: give Smart ROI a target of 3x to 4x at first so it has room to spend, then tighten; and never run Smart ROI and manual CPC on the same product against the same keywords, because you bid against yourself.

How much should you budget per day?

Flipkart sets a low platform floor for daily budget; agency guides put it at ₹300 and call ₹500 to ₹600 the practical minimum for one campaign to gather data. A sensible starting point for a seller advertising three or four products is ₹500 to ₹1,000 a day across all campaigns, and at least ₹1,000 per campaign over two weeks before judging it. Cost per click is set by auction and not published; one 2026 agency guide reports ₹1 to ₹5 in most categories and ₹5 to ₹10 in competitive ones during sales, with festive CPCs running two to three times normal. Other guides quote higher ranges; use the winning bid range Seller Hub shows you at setup, and open manual bids 10% to 15% above the suggestion, with top-of-search 30% to 50% above other placements.

Two habits protect the budget. First, tie daily spend to stock cover: an ad on a listing with three days of inventory is money spent on an out-of-stock page. Second, review weekly, not monthly. A 30-day learning period is real, but a campaign with a click-through rate under 2% after a week has a listing problem, not a bidding problem.

What ROI should you expect, and how does it relate to ACoS?

Flipkart reports return on investment: ad-attributed revenue divided by ad spend. Amazon sellers are used to ACoS, ad spend divided by ad revenue. They are reciprocals: a 4x ROI is a 25% ACoS, a 5x ROI is 20%, and a 3.5x ROI is about 28.6%.

Flipkart ROIEquivalent ACoSAgency reading
2x to 3x33% to 50%Normal for a new seller's first 30 days
3.5x to 5x20% to 29%Healthy for most mid-margin categories
6x and above17% or lessNeeded for low-margin FMCG and stationery to break even
7x to 10x10% to 14%Optimised, established brand campaigns

None of these benchmarks are Flipkart's; they are agency experience. Your real threshold is your contribution margin after Flipkart's commission, fixed fee and shipping. A product netting 30% after fees breaks even at roughly 3.3x ROI; one netting 15% needs 6.7x. Compute that number per product before you set a Smart ROI target.

Which reports matter?

Seller Hub offers six: seller-level, FSN (product-level), placement performance, search term, campaign performance and keyword. The two that drive decisions are:

  • Search term report: the actual queries that triggered your PLA. Promote converting terms to exact match, and add non-converting ones as negatives. Run it weekly.
  • Placement report: ROI by homepage, search, browse and product page. Cut placement bids where ROI is below your threshold and raise them where impression share is under about 20%.

The FSN report tells you which products deserve their own campaign; the seller-level report is for the monthly review. Reports update three times a day, so intraday changes should wait for a full day of data.

What do the Budget Rule and Saarthi do?

Flipkart has added two automation layers in the last two years.

The Budget Rule for PLA is opt-in and works on daily and total budgets. When a campaign hits a defined ROI threshold (minimum 3), records at least 100 clicks and is about to exhaust its budget, Flipkart raises the budget automatically so the campaign does not stop during a good day. It is the closest thing Flipkart has to Amazon's budget rules. Turn it on for proven campaigns and leave it off for tests.

Saarthi, announced by Flipkart Ads on 27 August 2026, is a free partner programme with two parts: an AI-powered dashboard built with AtTheRate.ai that brings campaign and business metrics into one view with product-level analysis, automated alerts, custom rules and day-parting; and a network of certified agencies, including Accenture and Dentsu, that manage campaigns for matched sellers at no charge. Some seller forums write the name as "Saral"; the official name is Saarthi. Flipkart has not published a feature called Smart Rule Manager on its own pages; the rule-setting inside Saarthi and the Budget Rule are what exist as of September 2026. Rule-based bidding beyond that still means third-party software or the Seller API.

How do you pace spend into Big Billion Days?

Big Billion Days 2026 opens to everyone on 9 October, with 24-hour early access for Plus and Black members on 8 October, and Early Bird deals from 24 September. Ad demand follows the same curve, and CPCs of two to three times normal are reported. A pacing plan that has worked for brands:

  1. Two weeks before: raise bids on proven exact-match terms by 20% to 30% so your listing has ranking momentum before the sale.
  2. Early Bird week: move Smart ROI targets down by half a turn (4x to 3.5x) so the algorithm keeps spending as CPCs climb.
  3. Early access day and day one: switch the top campaigns to total budgets with the Budget Rule on, and check spend every few hours.
  4. Mid-sale: cut placements below threshold; move that budget to search.
  5. Last two days: pull back on products with under three days of stock; nothing wastes budget like a sold-out listing.
  6. After: restore normal bids within 48 hours, or the post-sale CPC hangover eats a week of margin.

11 mistakes that waste Flipkart ad budget

  1. Advertising a listing with fewer than about 15 reviews or fewer than 7 images; quality score decides who wins at a lower CPC.
  2. Judging a campaign before 30 days of data, or letting a bad one run past 30 days out of hope.
  3. Running Smart ROI and manual CPC on the same product and keywords.
  4. Skipping negative keywords, so broad terms drain spend on the wrong shoppers.
  5. Advertising products with under a week of stock.
  6. Spreading ₹500 a day across ten campaigns; none of them learns.
  7. Setting a Smart ROI target higher than your break-even, then wondering why it will not spend.
  8. Ignoring the placement report and paying top-of-search rates for browse-quality traffic.
  9. Pricing above the category median during a sale; the ad still gets clicks, but not orders.
  10. Leaving festive bids in place after the sale.
  11. Reading ROI without your fee stack, so a 4x that looks fine loses money on a 15% margin product.

Software or agency: when does each make sense?

If you spend under about ₹50,000 a month and have time to check reports weekly, Seller Hub plus the free Saarthi dashboard is enough. Past that, the choice is between software that automates rules and reporting, and an agency that owns the outcome.

FAQ

What is the difference between PLA and PCA on Flipkart? PLA is keyword-targeted and appears in search, browse, homepage and product pages. PCA is context-targeted, shows on product and search pages in the app, and suits cross-sell and reach rather than capturing search intent.

What is a Smart ROI campaign? A PLA campaign where you set a target ROI per ad group and Flipkart's algorithm manages bids and placements. It runs on a total budget only and works best for products with sales history.

What is a good ROI on Flipkart Ads? Flipkart publishes no benchmark. Agencies call 3.5x to 5x healthy for mid-margin categories, 6x or more for low-margin FMCG, and 2x to 3x normal in a new seller's first month. A 4x ROI equals a 25% ACoS.

What is the minimum daily budget for Flipkart Ads? Agency guides put the platform floor at ₹300 a day and the practical minimum at ₹500 to ₹600 per campaign. Flipkart does not publish click prices; Seller Hub shows a winning bid range at setup.

What is Flipkart Saarthi? A free Flipkart Ads programme announced on 27 August 2026 that gives sellers an AI dashboard with alerts, custom rules and day-parting, plus campaign management from certified agencies at no charge.

Do I need software to run Flipkart Ads? Not at low spend. Above roughly ₹50,000 a month, rule-based software such as BlooprintAI (₹12,999 a month, 7-day trial) or a managed service saves the daily bid and search-term work.

Getting your Flipkart Ads to pay back

Flipkart gives you the placements, the reports and, since August 2026, free rules and agency help. What it does not give you is your break-even ROI, which depends on your fee stack, or the weekly discipline of harvesting search terms and cutting placements. If you would rather an ex-Flipkart team ran PLA, PCA and Smart ROI for you, including Big Billion Days pacing, see our marketplace ads management service.
