Swiggy Instamart Onboarding 2026: Partner Portal, Category Manager Approval, APOB, NPI and Documents

By Blooprint team · Published 25 September 2026 · 7 min read

Key takeaways

  • Brands apply to Swiggy Instamart at partner.instamart.in, not partner.swiggy.com, which is the restaurant portal; a Category Manager then sets terms and cities.
  • Guides report 2 to 5 days for document verification, 3 to 7 days to a Category Manager and about two weeks to first order; others say 15 to 25 days.
  • Instamart's NPI needs front, back and picker-view images per SKU, an EAN barcode, HSN, shelf life and FSSAI where relevant; APOB is required in every state supplied.
  • Swiggy reported 1,171 Instamart dark stores across 131 cities at the end of June 2026, and expansion to new cities is performance-led on fill rate and sell-through.

Swiggy Instamart onboards brands through its own partner portal, assigns a Category Manager, agrees margin and cities, reviews every SKU through a New Product Introduction process and then raises purchase orders against which you deliver to its city warehouse. As of September 2026 Swiggy publishes Instamart's quarterly take rate and dark-store count but not its onboarding criteria, timelines or vendor terms. This guide puts what Swiggy has said on record next to what onboarding consultants and brands report, covering the application, Category Manager approval, APOB, FSSAI, NPI, city selection, fill-rate and SLA expectations and delisting. Where do brands apply to Swiggy Instamart?

The brand portal is partner.instamart.in. Do not apply at partner.swiggy.com, which is built for restaurants and will not route a grocery or FMCG brand anywhere useful. Consultants also cite an email route, instamart-brands@swiggy.in, and describe the form as asking for company details, GST and PAN, your top three categories, existing online channels, turnover and links to your best-selling SKUs.

Instamart describes itself as "a curated, supply-led model, where sellers collaborate closely with Category Managers instead of self-listing products", and says expansion "is performance-led, rewarding brands that demonstrate consistent demand, supply reliability, and operational discipline". The reported stages:

Stage What happens Reported time
1. Registration Business details and form on partner.instamart.in About 15 minutes
2. Document verification GST, PAN, FSSAI, bank and brand rights checked 2 to 5 days; 7 to 14 days in another guide
3. Category Manager assignment Commercial terms, assortment, advertising, cities 3 to 7 days
4. NPI and product listing Per-SKU data, images and compliance documents reviewed 2 to 5 days per pass
5. APOB and inwarding GST amendment per state; first PO delivered to the city warehouse 5 to 14 days for APOB; 1 to 2 weeks to first PO

One guide says the whole journey "takes around 2 weeks, provided all required documents, GST registrations, and compliance records are accurate"; another puts it at 15 to 25 business days. Our planning figure is four to six weeks from application to first purchase order for a brand with clean documents and a central FSSAI licence, longer if APOB has to be filed in a new state.

What does the Instamart Category Manager decide?

The Category Manager is your buyer. They decide whether your range fits the assortment gap in the cities they run, the margin on MRP Instamart will keep, which SKUs launch first, which cities open, and how much advertising and brand-funded discounting the launch carries. Consultants report the CM call covers "commercial terms, product assortment, advertising opportunities" and the commission. Arrive with a per-SKU cost sheet, sell-through evidence from another channel and a hero range of 5 to 10 fast-moving SKUs; guides recommend exactly that as the launch shape.

Instamart also publishes, in effect, its own list of what it will not take: alcohol, tobacco, vapes, counterfeit or unlicensed products, anything without GST or FSSAI compliance, and products restricted on certain days or in certain regions such as non-vegetarian items.

Which documents does Instamart require?

  • GST certificate, with a legal name that matches PAN and bank exactly.
  • Business PAN and identity proof of the authorised signatory.
  • Bank account in the business name with a cancelled cheque.
  • Incorporation, partnership or Udyam proof.
  • FSSAI licence: "mandatory for sellers offering food, beverages, dairy, meat, or packaged edible items". Take a central licence if you will supply more than one state.
  • Trademark certificate for brand owners, or a brand authorisation letter for distributors and importers.
  • Product catalogue: SKU name, MRP, EAN barcode, pack size, HSN, shelf life, dimensions and weight.
  • APOB: "if your goal is to sell on Instamart across multiple cities, you must also obtain APOB (Additional Place of Business) registrations under GST for each state or region you plan to operate in".

How does APOB work for Instamart?

APOB puts Swiggy's warehouse address on your GST registration in that state, because your stock sits there before it is dispersed to dark stores. Your Category Manager supplies the address and consent letter; you file an amendment of registration on gst.gov.in; consultants report 5 to 14 days per state. Supplying a state where you hold no GST registration means registering there first. Start the amendment the day the address arrives, in parallel with NPI, because it is the step most likely to leave an approved brand waiting for its first PO.

What is NPI on Instamart?

New Product Introduction is the SKU-level review that happens "after commercial terms are finalized" and before anything goes live. You upload "detailed SKU data (product name, MRP, barcode, pack size)", "high-quality product images (front, back, and picker view)" and "required compliance documents, such as FSSAI or brand authorization". The picker-view image is specific to quick commerce: it shows the pack the way a dark-store picker sees it, with brand name and barcode visible, so the item can be confirmed in a couple of seconds. Rejections are per SKU and usually for image quality, missing shelf-life data, a wrong HSN or an MRP that does not match the pack. Verify every EAN on GS1 India's tool before you submit.

How do you choose cities on Instamart?

Swiggy reported 1,171 Instamart dark stores across 131 cities at the end of June 2026, so the network is national, but a new brand does not launch nationally. Consultants report launches starting in one city, often Bengaluru, with an initial order of about 50 units per SKU, and further cities opened on performance. One agency describes a launch package of Rs 30,000 plus GST per SKU, split between ad credit and city coverage and capped at 15 SKUs; Swiggy has not published this, so treat it as one brand's offer.

Worked example on that reported package: 10 SKUs at Rs 30,000 is Rs 3,00,000, plus 18% GST is Rs 3,54,000 up front, most of it as prepaid advertising. Add the first PO: 10 SKUs at 50 units at a landed cost of Rs 80 is Rs 40,000 of stock, paid on the credit terms in your agreement. A leaner start of 6 SKUs in one city halves the cash at risk while still giving the Category Manager enough range to judge sell-through. Whichever you choose, the second city should be earned with fill-rate and sell-through data, not bought.

What fill rate and SLA does Instamart expect?

Swiggy publishes no vendor thresholds. What brands report:

  • Fill rate: service each PO in full and on time; brands aim for 95% or better, and short-shipping repeatedly stops future POs. Read our glossary entry on fill rate for how it is calculated.
  • Inwarding SLA: deliver to the city warehouse in the booked appointment window with PO number, invoice and e-way bill; late or undocumented deliveries are refused.
  • Shelf life at inwarding: category norms apply, typically a minimum remaining life that sits around two-thirds of total for packaged food; confirm your category's rule with the CM.
  • Scan and pack quality: every unit and case must scan first time; damaged units are short-received.
  • Stock accuracy: Instamart uses demand forecasting to raise POs and place stock, so an out-of-stock SKU is both lost sales and a signal that you cannot keep up.
Keep a dedicated Instamart stock pool and reorder point per SKU per city. Because Swiggy's forecasting raises POs from observed sell-through, a stock-out does not only lose the sale; it lowers the next PO quantity, and the SKU has to earn its way back up over several cycles.

Why do SKUs get delisted on Instamart?

Delisting is normally at SKU or city level. Reported causes: slow sell-through in the first four to six weeks, poor fill rate, expiry or damage complaints, MRP or label mismatches, FSSAI or compliance issues, and assortment rationalisation in a city. Brand-level exits are rarer and follow document or authenticity problems or unresolved compliance notices. Blooprint does not offer standalone reinstatement of suspended Instamart accounts; that is handled through your Category Manager and Swiggy's partner support. Our work is the application, the launch and the weekly PO, fill-rate and expiry discipline that keeps SKUs on the shelf.

FAQ

How long does Swiggy Instamart onboarding take? Swiggy publishes no timeline. Guides report about two weeks with clean documents, or 15 to 25 business days; plan four to six weeks to first purchase order, longer if APOB must be filed in a new state.

Launch on Instamart with the paperwork done in parallel

The Instamart applications that go live fastest run APOB, FSSAI, barcode checks and picker-view photography during the review rather than after it. Blooprint Automation prepares Instamart brand applications, negotiates with Category Managers, files APOB, builds NPI catalogues and runs the weekly PO cycle for brands from Bengaluru.
