Ajio, Reliance Retail's fashion and lifestyle marketplace, sits between the open marketplaces and the curated retailers. Anyone can apply on Seller Central, but every application is reviewed by a person, brand papers are checked, and the account is onboarded on one of two fulfilment models that shape how it is measured afterwards. This guide covers what registration needs, how long approval takes, what Ajio expects of a brand, the metrics it tracks once you are live, and what happens when they slip. It is written as of September 2026. The step-by-step registration flow is in our how to sell on Ajio guide, so this one spends its time on approval, metrics and penalties; fees are in Ajio seller fees explained.

Ajio Seller Account in 2026: Registration, Documents, Approval Time, Account Metrics and Penalties
By Blooprint team · Published 25 September 2026 · 7 min read
Key takeaways
- Ajio's Seller Central FAQ requires a regular GSTIN (not composition), PAN, bank KYC, a trademark certificate or brand authorisation, and says some categories need prior approval.
- Ajio publishes no approval timeline; 2026 agency guides report 7 to 15 working days for a complete file and up to 25 business days when documents or brand papers are queried.
- Sellers are onboarded on a JIT model (ship to Ajio's warehouse, quality-checked there) or a dropship model (ship direct from your own centre), which changes which metrics are tracked.
- Ajio names no numeric thresholds; repeated dispatch misses, QC rejections and policy breaches can put an account on hold or suspend it, and damaged or lost shipment claims must be filed within three days.

What does Ajio Seller Central ask for at registration?
Registration is at seller.ajio.com under Ajio Commerce. The FAQ lists what you need before you start:
| Requirement | What Ajio's FAQ says | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Phone, email, company details | Required for all | Use an email the team monitors; queries come by email and are easy to miss |
| PAN | Personal PAN for a proprietorship, business PAN for a company or LLP | Name must match the GST record exactly |
| GSTIN | "Regular GST number (NOT composite)" | Composition dealers cannot register; Ajio ships nationally, so this is a hard rule |
| CIN and TAN | Listed for companies | Not applicable to proprietorships |
| Bank account with KYC | Address proof and cancelled cheque | Account name must match PAN and GST |
| Brand trademark registration certificate | Required | For your own brand; a filed TM application is often accepted, ask before uploading |
| Brand authorisation | You must be the "authorised manufacturer or distributor" | For other people's brands: authorisation letter from the brand owner, on letterhead, naming Ajio |
| Licences and approvals | "All relevant licenses, certificates, approvals and permits" | Beauty needs CDSCO papers; some categories need prior approval from Ajio |
| Registration and fulfilment addresses | Required | An APOB is needed if you ship from a state other than your GST registration |
Ajio lists fashion, footwear, home, kitchen and furniture, luggage, beauty, healthcare and hygiene, home improvement and Indian crafts as its categories, and says some need prior approval. Beauty and Indian crafts are the ones agencies most often flag as gated. One listing is enough to start, no website is required, and sales are to India only.
How long does Ajio approval take?
Ajio does not publish a timeline. Agency guides from 2026 give three different answers, which is itself the useful information: 7 to 10 business days from one, 7 to 15 working days from a complete file from another, and "up to 25 business days" from a third. In our experience the spread comes from what happens after submission. A file with a registered trademark, matching names on PAN, GST and bank, and product images ready goes through at the fast end. A file that triggers a query (a trademark still in application, a brand authorisation letter that does not name Ajio, a category that needs approval) waits for the query to be raised, answered and re-reviewed, and each loop is a week.
What is being reviewed is not only paperwork. Ajio's onboarding team looks at the brand: imagery, price band, range depth, and whether it fits a fashion-first shelf. Unlike Nykaa there is no formal fit rejection for most categories, but weak brands are slow-walked, and a query about "brand credentials" is usually the signal. Sending a short line sheet with your application, ten to twenty SKUs with images and MRPs, shortens the review noticeably.
Which fulfilment model will you be onboarded on?
Ajio's FAQ describes two models, and the one you are given determines your daily operations and the metrics that matter.
- JIT (just-in-time): orders are shipped from your warehouse to an Ajio warehouse, quality-checked there, and then delivered to the customer. Ajio's QC team sees every unit before the buyer does.
- Dropship: customer orders route straight to your fulfilment centre, and Ajio's logistics partner collects for direct delivery. There is no Ajio QC step before the customer.
Seller-circulated commercial sheets also describe outright or consignment-style models for larger brands, where Ajio holds stock on a sale-or-return basis; those are negotiated, not applied for. For most new sellers the choice is JIT or dropship and it is made by Ajio based on your location, category and volume. JIT protects you from customer-side quality complaints but exposes you to QC rejections at the warehouse; dropship is the reverse.
What metrics does Ajio track on a live account?
Ajio's seller dashboard shows the same family of metrics as every Indian marketplace, but with no published thresholds. Agency guides list the ones that trigger notices:
| Metric | What it measures | Model where it bites | Published threshold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dispatch SLA compliance | Orders handed over by the promised date | Both | None; "orders to be shipped within the agreed-upon time frame" |
| Seller cancellation rate | Confirmed orders you cancelled, usually stock-outs | Both, worst on dropship | None published |
| QC rejection rate | Units failing Ajio's warehouse quality check | JIT | None published |
| Customer return rate | Returned units against delivered, in a 15-day window | Both, worst on dropship | None; benchmarked against category |
| Ratings and reviews | Product-level ratings on ajio.com | Both | None published |
| Customer query response | Time to answer buyer and Ajio queries | Both | Guides cite 24 hours |
Fashion returns are the metric that decides profitability more than any other. A 15-day return window on apparel, with size and fit the dominant reason, gives return rates that routinely sit at 25 to 35% on dropship accounts; our fees guide models the account at 25%. On JIT, some of that return volume becomes QC rejection instead: a unit with a loose thread or a wrong label is rejected at the warehouse and returned to you, which costs a return shipment but spares you the customer review.
What penalties does Ajio apply, and when is an account put on hold?
Ajio publishes no penalty schedule. What the FAQ and agency guides establish is the shape of enforcement rather than the amounts:
- Dispatch misses attract a notice first; repeated instances "or no corrective action for highlighted misses" can put the account on HOLD, which stops new orders while listings stay visible.
- QC rejections on JIT are returned at your cost, and a pattern of rejections on one SKU gets the SKU delisted.
- Listing removal for wrong or missing attributes, non-white-background images, or products that do not match the description.
- Suspension for policy breaches: counterfeit or unauthorised branded goods, restricted products, document mismatches, dishonest activity, or sustained poor performance after a hold.
- Chargebacks for returns that arrive damaged or lost, unless you claim under the Seller Protection Fund policy within the three-day window the FAQ specifies.
A hold is recoverable if you act. Read the notice in Seller Central, fix the operational cause (stock sync, packing checks, a second dispatch slot), reply with what changed, and ask for the hold to be lifted. Ajio's reinstatement route runs through seller support and your category contact; there is no formal appeal form. Blooprint does not offer standalone reinstatement of suspended accounts. We run Ajio accounts so holds do not happen, and for clients we manage the reply as part of the service.
A worked example: what a dispatch miss and a hold cost
Take a kurta seller on the dropship model doing 600 orders a month at ₹999 MRP, netting about ₹610 per delivered order before returns as modelled in our fees guide. A week on HOLD is roughly 140 orders not received, or about ₹85,000 of gross receivable delayed or lost, before you count the ranking drop that follows a stock-out-like gap in sales history. Set against that, the cost of preventing the hold is small: a stock sync twice a day, a packing check against the listing image, and a courier handover cut-off an hour before the SLA. Most holds we see trace back to one of those three.
FAQ
Can I register on Ajio with a composition GSTIN? No. Ajio's FAQ requires a "regular GST number (NOT composite)". Composition dealers are limited to intra-state sales and Ajio ships nationally.
How long does Ajio take to approve a seller? Ajio publishes no timeline. Agency guides report 7 to 15 working days for a complete file and up to 25 business days when brand papers or a gated category trigger queries.
Do I need a trademark to sell my own brand on Ajio? Ajio's FAQ lists a brand trademark registration certificate. A filed application is often accepted in practice, but confirm with the onboarding team before you upload it.
What is the difference between JIT and dropship on Ajio? On JIT your orders go to an Ajio warehouse for quality check before delivery; on dropship Ajio's courier collects from you and delivers direct. JIT exposes you to QC rejections, dropship to customer returns.
What happens if my Ajio account is put on hold? New orders stop while the hold lasts. Fix the operational cause named in the notice, reply through seller support with what changed, and ask for the hold to be lifted. Repeated holds with no corrective action lead to suspension.
How long do I have to claim for a damaged return on Ajio? Three days, under the Seller Protection Fund policy referenced in Ajio's FAQ. Open and photograph every return on arrival.
Approval is the start, metrics are the job
Getting through Ajio's review takes a clean file and a credible brand; staying live takes dispatch discipline, honest listings and same-day return handling. If you want the file prepared and the account run by a team that does this for fashion brands every day, see our fashion and beauty marketplace management service, which covers Ajio alongside Myntra and Nykaa. Ajio's own onboarding support from Blooprint starts with a free audit of your documents and range.
