Amazon Brand Registry is the programme that tells Amazon you own a brand. Once enrolled, you control the product detail pages that carry your brand name, you unlock the content and advertising formats reserved for brand owners, and you get tools to report and remove counterfeits. It costs nothing on Amazon.in beyond the trademark you need to hold, and since Amazon accepts a pending application, the gating step is a filing at the Indian Trade Marks Registry that takes a week to prepare. This guide covers eligibility as Amazon states it, the enrolment steps, what A+ Content, Brand Stores and Sponsored Brands add, the protection tools, and the mistakes that get applications rejected, as of September 2026. If your brand is not yet trademarked, read this before you spend on listings, because Brand Registry changes what a listing can be.

Who is eligible for Amazon Brand Registry in India?
Amazon's India page puts the trademark requirement in one sentence: you need "a pending or registered trademark for your brand name or logo that's issued by the designated government trademark office of a country with a corresponding Amazon.in store". For an Indian seller that means an application or registration at the Trade Marks Registry under the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks. Amazon's global eligibility guide adds that the mark must be text-based (a word mark) or image-based with "words, letters, or numbers" (a design mark with text); a pure logo with no text does not qualify on its own.
The other conditions Amazon lists:
- The brand name or logo must be "permanently affixed" to the products or their packaging.
- You must be the trademark owner, or an authorised agent enrolling on the owner's behalf with the owner's approval.
- You need the trademark application or registration number as issued by the registry.
- You need a list of the product categories in which the brand will be listed.
Pending applications are accepted, but not every pending status. Amazon checks the application on the registry's database; an application marked "Objected" or "Opposed" often fails Amazon's check until the objection is answered, and an "Abandoned" or "Refused" mark never qualifies. File a clean application, in the right class, with the brand name spelt exactly as it appears on your products, and Brand Registry follows. Sellers who do not yet have a trademark can use Amazon's IP Accelerator, a panel of law firms at pre-negotiated rates, which Amazon says gives "faster access to Brand Registry benefits, which they can enjoy while their trademark application is pending".
How do you enrol, step by step?
- Create a Brand Registry account at brandregistry.amazon.in, signing in with your Seller Central credentials so the accounts link. If a brand representative other than the seller owns the mark, the owner enrols and then adds the seller as a user.
- Enter the brand and trademark details: brand name exactly as on the registry record, the trademark office (India), the application or registration number, and the mark type. Upload the logo image if it is a design mark.
- Upload product images showing the brand name on the product or packaging. Amazon wants real photographs of real units with the name printed, woven, moulded or engraved on; it rejects "stickers, labels, stock images, and mockups".
- List categories and channels: the product categories you sell in, your website and distribution details if you have them, and whether you manufacture or sell through distributors.
- Submit and verify. Amazon may send a verification code to the contact on the trademark record, or ask the trademark attorney to confirm. Respond quickly; unanswered verification is a common silent failure.
- Track the case on the Brand Applications page. Approvals for clean Indian applications usually come within days; queries and resubmissions add a week or two each.
Once approved, Brand Registry appears in Seller Central and the brand-only tools switch on across the ASINs where you are the brand owner. If your listings were created under a generic brand name, you will need to correct the brand attribute on each ASIN, which is a support case per ASIN; do it before enrolling so the catalogue is clean.
What does Brand Registry unlock: A+ Content, Stores and Sponsored Brands?
| Tool | What it is | Cost on Amazon.in | What Amazon claims |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ Content | Image, text and comparison modules below the bullet points, replacing the plain description | Free (standard A+) | "Can increase sales by up to 20%" when used well |
| Brand Store | A multi-page storefront at amazon.in/yourbrand with its own URL | Free | Customisable; feeds Sponsored Brands landing pages |
| Sponsored Brands | Headline ads with logo, custom headline and several products, at the top of search | Cost per click | Brand-owner only |
| Sponsored Display | Audience and product-targeted display ads on and off Amazon | Cost per click or per impression | Brand-owner only |
| Brand Analytics | Search term, market basket and repeat purchase reports | Free | Brand-owner only |
| Brand Tailored Promotions | Discounts targeted at your own past customers, cart abandoners and followers | You fund the discount | 10% to 50% discount ranges |
| Manage Your Experiments | A/B tests of titles, images and A+ on live listings | Free | Brand-owner only |
The two that change results fastest are A+ Content and Sponsored Brands. A+ turns a text description into a page of banners, feature grids and a comparison chart that links your own ASINs, and it is the difference between a listing that looks like a reseller's and one that looks like a brand's. Sponsored Brands puts your logo and three products above the first organic result for your category keywords, which no non-brand seller can do; our Amazon ads guide covers how to structure it against Sponsored Products. Building A+ pages and Stores at scale is the core of our catalogue and listing optimisation work for Amazon brands.
What brand protection tools come with it?
Amazon describes three layers:
- Automated protections. Once you are enrolled, Amazon's systems use your brand data to block suspect listings before they go live. Amazon's page says "99% of product listings blocked or removed" in 2023 came from Brand Registry's proactive controls.
- Report a Violation. A self-service tool in Brand Registry to search for listings using your brand name, images or content and report trademark, copyright or counterfeit issues; Amazon reviews and removes.
- Project Zero. For brands with a clean record, the ability to remove counterfeit listings directly, without waiting for Amazon's review, plus product serialisation.
- Transparency. A per-unit code you print on packaging that Amazon scans at the fulfilment centre and customers can scan in the app; Amazon says "2.7 billion product units" have been authenticated through it. Transparency codes are paid per unit and are worth it only for brands that are actually being counterfeited.
What Brand Registry does not do: it does not stop other sellers listing genuine units of your product they bought legitimately, it does not give you the Buy Box, and it does not let you delete a competitor's listing because it resembles yours. Reports that misuse the tool count against your account.
Why do Brand Registry applications get rejected?
Amazon's own eligibility guide lists three frequent mistakes, and they match what we see:
- Brand name discrepancies. "Capitalization, spacing, symbols must match exactly" between what you type and the registry record. "Blooprint Home" and "BlooprintHome" are different brands to the system.
- Image guideline violations. Stickers, hang tags, printed labels stuck on, stock images and 3D mock-ups are rejected; the name must be permanently applied and the photograph must be of a real unit.
- Mark type mismatch. Declaring a word mark when the registry shows a device mark, or the reverse.
Add to those: a trademark application that is objected or opposed on the registry; a class that does not cover the products you list; an application filed in an individual's name while the Seller Central account is a company, without an authorisation letter; and existing ASINs carrying a different brand attribute. Most rejections are fixable with a resubmission; a refused trademark is not.
What does it cost, and what is the timeline?
Brand Registry itself has no fee on Amazon.in as of September 2026. The costs sit outside Amazon: the government filing fee at the Indian Trade Marks Registry, which is lower for individuals, start-ups and small enterprises than for other companies, plus attorney fees if you use one; Amazon's IP Accelerator firms quote fixed rates. Registration of an Indian trademark commonly takes a year or more end to end, but Brand Registry only needs the application to be on file and clean, so the working timeline is:
| Stage | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Trademark search and application filing | 3 to 10 days |
| Application number issued and visible on the registry | Same day to a few days |
| Brand Registry application and verification | 2 to 10 days for a clean case |
| A+ Content and Brand Store build | 1 to 3 weeks depending on catalogue size |
| Trademark registration certificate | 12 to 24 months, not required for enrolment |
What mistakes do brands make after enrolling?
- Enrolling and never building A+ Content or a Store, which is where the return actually is.
- Filing one class and launching in three.
- Letting the trademark application lapse on an unanswered examination report, which can drop the brand out of Registry.
- Reporting resellers of genuine stock as counterfeiters.
- Not adding the ads manager as a Brand Registry user, so Sponsored Brands cannot be run.
FAQ
Do I need a registered trademark for Amazon Brand Registry in India? No. Amazon accepts a pending trademark application from the Indian Trade Marks Registry as well as a registered mark, as long as it is a word mark or a design mark with words, letters or numbers.
Is Amazon Brand Registry free? Yes, on Amazon.in as of September 2026. You pay the trademark filing and any attorney fees outside Amazon; Transparency codes, if you use them, are charged per unit.
What does Brand Registry unlock? A+ Content, a free Brand Store, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display ads, Brand Analytics, Brand Tailored Promotions, Manage Your Experiments, and the Report a Violation, Project Zero and Transparency protection tools.
Why was my Brand Registry application rejected? The three most common reasons Amazon lists are a brand name that does not match the trademark record exactly, product images using stickers, labels, stock images or mock-ups, and a mark type that does not match the registry.
How long does Brand Registry approval take? A clean Indian application is usually approved within days; verification queries and resubmissions add a week or two each.
Can Brand Registry remove other sellers from my listing? Not if they are selling genuine stock. It removes counterfeit and infringing listings and gives you control of the detail page content, but it does not grant exclusivity or the Buy Box.
Getting help with Brand Registry
Enrolment is a fortnight's work if the trademark is clean and the catalogue is tidy; the value comes afterwards, in A+ pages, a Store and brand ads that a non-brand seller cannot run. If you want the enrolment, brand attribute clean-up and content build handled, see our catalogue and listing optimisation service. We will check your trademark status and ASIN brand attributes first and tell you what will pass before you apply.
