UAE Trademark Registration Cost in 2026: Fees Per Class, Timeline, Renewal and Rules for Foreign Brand Owners

By Blooprint team · Published 10 October 2026 · 6 min read

Key takeaways

  • The Ministry of Economy and Tourism lists three payments for one trademark in one category: AED 750 to apply, AED 750 to publish and AED 5,000 to register, AED 6,500 in total.
  • Fees are charged separately for each category, so three classes cost AED 19,500 at those rates before any discount. National SME Programme members get a 50% partial exemption.
  • A foreign owner must file through a registration agent with a legal, notarized power of attorney. The agent's fee is not published by the ministry.
  • Renewal is for another ten years and costs AED 750 plus AED 5,750 in the tenth year, or AED 6,500 if you renew late within six months after protection ends.

Registering a trademark in the UAE costs AED 6,500 in official fees for one mark in one category, paid in three steps: AED 750 to apply, AED 750 to publish after acceptance and AED 5,000 for final registration. The Ministry of Economy and Tourism (MoET) charges per category, so a mark in three classes is AED 19,500 at those rates. This page uses the ministry's pages as read in October 2026. The ministry's fee schedule was revised in October 2025, and its page does not state an effective date.

Check this first. This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm fees and the filing route with MoET or a registered trademark agent.

How much does it cost to register a trademark in the UAE?

The official fees for the standard route are:

Step Fee (AED) When
Application 750 On filing
Publication 750 After the ministry accepts the application
Final registration 5,000 After the 30-day objection period
Total, one category 6,500

The ministry's registration page also lists an expedited examination at AED 2,250 with a decision within one business day, and a AED 7,500 final registration fee for a quality mark instead of AED 5,000. Those two are options, not part of the standard AED 6,500.

An agent's professional fee comes on top. MoET does not publish agent fees, so ask for a written quote that splits the government fee from the agent's own charge.

Why is the cost per class, and what does that mean for your brand?

MoET's fee announcement of 21 October 2025 says fees are collected for a single category if the application includes only one, and separately for each category when it includes several. A category, also called a class, is a group of goods or services. A brand that sells skincare, bags and phone accessories sits in at least three.

For example, a three-category application at the standard rates costs 3 x AED 6,500 = AED 19,500 in official fees. That is illustrative, built from the fee table above. If a National SME Programme discount of 50% applies to each fee, the same filing would be AED 9,750, but the announcement words it as a "50 per cent partial exemption on trademark service fees", so confirm which fees it covers before you budget. People of Determination get a full exemption.

The practical question is which categories you need now. Cover the products you sell today and the ones you will launch in the next year. Adding a class later means a new application and a new set of fees.

How do you register a trademark in the UAE, step by step?

MoET's steps:

  1. Log in to the ministry website and select the service.
  2. Fill in the application, attach the documents and pay the AED 750 application fee online.
  3. The ministry reviews the application and notifies you of its decision.
  4. If accepted, pay the AED 750 publication fee. Late payment after 30 days costs AED 100 per month, capped at AED 1,000 a year.
  5. The mark appears in the Official Trademark Bulletin, which the page says is issued twice a month, and a 30-day objection period runs from the bulletin date.
  6. After the objection period, pay the AED 5,000 final registration fee. The certificate is issued within 30 days of the objection period ending. Late payment costs AED 1,000 per month, capped at AED 10,000 a year.

What documents and eligibility rules apply?

Individuals, companies and establishments can apply. The documents are a JPEG copy of the mark, a trade license if the applicant is a company or institution, and a notarized, certified power of attorney if you use an agent. A UAE-based individual owner does not need a license.

The ministry also says that if the owner is from outside the country, "it is obligatory to submit the application through a registration agent", with a legal and notarized power of attorney attached. The ministry's registration page words this as a notarized and legally translated power of attorney. That is how a foreign brand owner files. To register as an agent, an applicant needs at least two years of experience in trademarks for UAE nationals or five years for non-nationals, must complete the ministry's training courses, and registering an agent for a foreign company costs AED 7,500.

How long does UAE trademark registration take?

The ministry's own pages disagree. The registration page says the ministry will notify you of its decision within 20 days of submission, and the service page lists an average of 45 working days to study the application and issue a decision, while its steps mention "within 90 days from the date of filing". Plan from the longest figure.

Add the publication step, the 30-day objection period and up to 30 days for the certificate. The ministry's pages do not give an end-to-end figure, so we do not give one. Late payment fees run if you wait, so pay each stage promptly.

How much does renewal cost, and how long is protection?

The ministry says renewal extends protection "for another ten years". You must apply within the tenth year of the current protection period or at most six months after it ends. The fees are AED 750 for publication plus AED 5,750 for final renewal in the tenth year, or AED 6,500 if you renew within six months after expiry. For marks that indicate monitoring or inspection the renewal fees are AED 8,250 and AED 9,750.

The pages we read do not state the length of the first registration. The renewal text implies ten-year periods. Check the length on your certificate and diarise the tenth-year window.

Do you need a trademark to sell on Amazon.ae or noon?

Whether you need one depends on the platform and the programme, and brand programmes may ask for a registered or pending mark. We did not open the current Amazon or noon requirement pages for this guide, so we do not state their rules here. Read Amazon.ae Brand Registry and noon brand approval and gated products for what each platform asks. If you are building a private-label business, see private label vs wholesale in the GCC first.

FAQ

How much does it cost to register a trademark in the UAE? The ministry lists AED 750 to apply, AED 750 to publish and AED 5,000 to register, AED 6,500 in total, for one mark in one category. Fees are charged per category. An agent's fee is extra and is not published by the ministry.

Is there a discount for small businesses? MoET says National SME Programme members get a 50 per cent partial exemption on trademark service fees, and People of Determination a full exemption. Ask MoET which fees the discount covers, because the announcement does not itemise them.

Can a foreign company register a UAE trademark? Yes, but it must file through a registration agent with a legal, notarized power of attorney. The agent must be registered with the ministry.

How long does registration last, and what does renewal cost? Renewal gives another ten years. In the tenth year it costs AED 750 plus AED 5,750. Within six months after expiry it costs AED 750 plus AED 6,500. The pages we read do not state the first term, so check your certificate.

Can I speed up the examination? The ministry lists an expedited examination at AED 2,250 with a decision within one business day, in place of the regular AED 750 examination. It speeds up the decision only, not the objection period.

What happens if I pay late? Publication fees paid late cost AED 100 per month up to AED 1,000 a year. Late final registration costs AED 1,000 per month up to AED 10,000 a year, per the ministry's service page.

What to do next

Pick your categories, search the register, then file through the ministry or a registered agent. When the mark is secured, Blooprint can run your brand on Amazon.ae and noon through its Amazon.ae account management, with listings and advertising built around the brand name.
