Product Listing Ads, always shortened to PLA in the Flipkart Ads console, are Flipkart's equivalent of Amazon's Sponsored Products. The ad is the product tile itself, marked "Sponsored", placed among organic results on the search page, at the top and within category browse pages, on the homepage and on other products' detail pages. You pay per click, never per impression. PLA is where nearly every Flipkart seller starts advertising, and for most it remains the bulk of spend during the Big Billion Days.
How PLA works
You create a campaign in Flipkart Ads (reached from the Seller Hub under Advertising, or ads.flipkart.com for brands), choose the listings by FSN, set a daily or total budget and pick a campaign type. As of September 2026 Flipkart offers two broad routes:
- CPC (manual) campaigns: you set bids, optionally by keyword with phrase or exact match and negative keywords, and can adjust bids by placement. Flipkart shows a suggested bid range per keyword.
- Smart ROI campaigns: you set a target return on investment and Flipkart's system sets bids and placements automatically to hit it.
Flipkart reports spend, views, clicks, direct units and indirect units (sales of other listings from your account after a click), and computes ROI = attributed revenue ÷ spend, shown as a multiple, together with a separate direct ROI. Flipkart does not publish its attribution window on its public help pages, so read the console's definitions rather than assuming Amazon's 7-day rule.
Worked example: a seller of bedsheets runs a PLA campaign at ₹8 average CPC. In a week it gets 2,500 clicks for ₹20,000 spend and 175 direct units at ₹899, giving direct revenue of ₹1,57,325 and a direct ROI of 7.9. Add 25 indirect units and total ROI reaches 9. Against a 20% margin after Flipkart fees, break-even ROI is 5, so the campaign is profitable with room to raise bids.
Why PLA matters for sellers
Flipkart's search results give sponsored tiles prime slots, and in fashion, home and small electronics the top row is usually all PLA. A listing without ads can sit on page three regardless of quality. PLA also feeds organic rank: units sold through ads count towards the listing's sales history, which Flipkart's ranking weights heavily. The cost is real, though. Flipkart CPCs in competitive categories have risen year on year, and a listing with weak images or a poor Listing Quality Score converts badly and simply burns budget. Return-heavy categories must judge ROI after returns, since Flipkart reports units ordered, not units kept.
How to improve PLA performance
- Advertise your best-converting FSNs first. Flipkart's own guidance is that Smart ROI works best on listings with sales history; new listings need manual CPC to build it.
- Use the search term report weekly. Move converting terms into exact match and add losers as negatives, exactly as on Amazon.
- Adjust by placement. Product-page placements often convert lower than top-of-search; cut bids there if the report shows it.
- Fix the listing before scaling. Listing Quality Score, price competitiveness and Flipkart Assured badge all lift click-through and conversion.
- Raise budgets before events, not during. Campaigns that run out of budget by noon on a sale day lose the best hours.
