To fulfil Amazon.com.au orders yourself with Australia Post, you pack the order, send it with an Australia Post account, then confirm the shipment in Seller Central with the carrier name and tracking ID. Amazon's Customer Experience Guide says you are required to reach a 95% Valid Tracking Rate target for all product categories. Australia Post offers two business accounts for this: MyPost Business and eParcel Contract. As of October 2026 the choice mostly comes down to monthly parcel volume.

How does fulfilling it yourself work on Amazon?

Amazon's model for Fulfilment by Seller is "you sell it, you ship it": you store and ship the product, choose the shipping option and rate, and handle packaging, shipping, returns and customer service. You fulfil each order from the Manage Orders page by packing the item and confirming the shipping details. Inventory updates when the order is fulfilled.

You pay the Professional plan, A$49.95 a month excluding GST, plus selling fees. There is no fulfilment fee to Amazon, because you pay the carrier. Delivery promises, shipping templates and rates are set in your shipping settings. See Amazon Australia shipping settings for FBM and FBA vs FBM in Australia.

Using a third party to ship is subject to Amazon's drop shipping policy, and breaking it can cost you selling privileges. See the Amazon Australia dropshipping policy.

Which Australia Post account should you use?

Australia Post describes MyPost Business as ideal for small businesses sending fewer than 170 parcels a month, and eParcel Contract for businesses sending more than 2,000 parcels a year, suggesting a move when you consistently send 150 to 200 or more orders a month.

Two details matter for Amazon sellers:

  • MyPost Business pick-ups are only in major metropolitan areas, collect up to 100 parcels at a time, run 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday for orders placed before 1pm the previous day, and carry additional charges.
  • Integrations. The MyPost Business page names Shopify and eBay, with BigCommerce, Shippit and ShipStation also listed, and does not mention Amazon. That does not mean it cannot work. It means you should ask how tracking IDs will reach Amazon, through a shipping platform, a manual entry or a file upload, before you pick a plan.

What are Amazon's tracking requirements?

Amazon's Australian Customer Experience Guide states these rules:

  • You must reach a 95% Valid Tracking Rate target for all product categories.
  • Tracking IDs must follow the formats used by Amazon-supported carriers.
  • Misspelling the carrier name may stop Amazon providing tracking on the order.
  • You edit tracking under Orders > Manage Orders by searching the Order ID and selecting Edit Shipment.

Amazon staff forum guidance adds that the carrier name, shipping service and tracking ID must match the same carrier, and that corrections should be made promptly after shipping. Amazon does not publish a fixed deadline for corrections, so treat any quoted timing as a guide, not a rule. The safe habit is to enter tracking when you ship, not after delivery, since late edits can look like a customer who could not track the parcel.

Practical consequences for Australia Post:

  1. Use the exact carrier name Amazon lists, selected from the drop-down where one is offered.
  2. Copy the article or consignment number as printed, and check the service matches.
  3. Do not enter a tracking ID for a different carrier, even if the parcel was handed over at a Post Office.
  4. Keep a spreadsheet of order ID, carrier and tracking ID until Amazon shows the order as confirmed.

How does handling time affect delivery promises?

Amazon defines total delivery time as handling time plus transit time, plus any holidays and weekends, and recommends a one-business-day default handling time where it suits your business. Monday to Friday are mandatory operating days, with Saturday and Sunday optional. If you cannot lodge parcels daily, such as with a pick-up that is not every day, set a longer handling time so your promise is honest. Late shipments feed your seller metrics. See Amazon seller performance metrics and the account health rating. Amazon's published targets are under 1% order defect rate, under 2.5% pre-fulfilment cancel rate and under 4% late shipment rate.

What does Amazon Easy Ship offer instead?

Easy Ship is an Amazon-arranged delivery service for orders you store and pack yourself. Amazon's managed carrier collects from an eligible Australian location and delivers to the customer. Key details from that page:

  • Fees start from A$3.81 per package excluding GST for Zone A and up to 0.5 kg, with Zone B starting at A$4.67 and Zone C at A$6.03 for the same weight band, as at 1 August 2025. Rates are updated periodically, so check the Easy Ship page before you budget.
  • It is limited to eligible postcodes and subject to product limitations.
  • You must ship from a single pick-up location and have a minimum handling time of two days.
  • The rate card covers consignments up to 25 kg, and cubic weight is length x breadth x height in centimetres divided by 4000.
  • You need a Professional plan and an eligible Australian pick-up address.

Easy Ship gives Amazon-managed tracking and customer queries, which can remove the tracking-ID work. The trade-off is that a pick-up location and handling-time rule come with it.

When should you choose Australia Post over other options?

  • Choose MyPost Business if you send fewer than about 150 parcels a month, mostly small and light items, and can enter tracking manually or through a platform.
  • Choose eParcel Contract if volume is consistently above 150 to 200 orders a month, you want scheduled pick-ups and bulk labels, and you can handle the contract.
  • Consider Easy Ship if your postcode and products qualify and you want Amazon-managed tracking.
  • Consider FBA if parcels are routine, small and fast-moving. See the FBA guide and FBA fees.

Run the numbers per product: your Australia Post cost, packaging, labour and time against the FBA fulfilment fee. FBM wins on bulky slow movers, products FBA cannot take, and low-volume lines.

FAQ

Can I use Australia Post for Amazon FBM orders? Yes. Fulfilment by Seller lets you choose how you ship, and Australia Post is a common carrier. You must confirm each order with a valid tracking ID and the correct carrier name to protect your valid tracking rate.

Do I need an eParcel account to sell on Amazon? No. MyPost Business has no minimum volume, no contract and no set-up cost. eParcel Contract suits higher volumes.

What is the Amazon valid tracking rate target? Amazon's Australian Customer Experience Guide says sellers are required to reach a 95% Valid Tracking Rate target for all product categories.

Does Australia Post integrate with Amazon? Australia Post's MyPost Business page lists Shopify, eBay and other platforms and does not mention Amazon. Ask Australia Post or your shipping software provider how tracking will reach Amazon.

How do I fix a wrong tracking number? In Seller Central, go to Orders > Manage Orders, search the Order ID and choose Edit Shipment. Fix it as soon as you notice, because late changes can still hurt your tracking metric.

Is Easy Ship cheaper than Australia Post? It depends on weight, zone and your Australia Post discount. Easy Ship starts from A$3.81 per package excluding GST for Zone A and up to 0.5 kg. Compare it with your MyPost Business or eParcel rate for the same parcel.
