How is the FBA fulfilment fee worked out?
Fulfilment by Amazon charges one fee per unit shipped. It covers picking, packing, shipping, customer service and returns handling, and Amazon states that all shipping costs are included. Three inputs decide it:
- Size tier, set by the product's packed dimensions and weight: small envelope, standard envelope, large envelope, parcel, small oversize, standard oversize, large oversize or extra large.
- Shipping weight band. For parcels and oversize tiers the shipping weight is the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight.
- Item price. Amazon prints two columns: A$13 or more, and under A$13. The under-A$13 rate is A$0.91 lower in every row we checked.
All fees are in Australian dollars and do not include GST.

What about extra large and prohibited sizes?
The extra large tier (over 105 x 60 x 60 cm and over 35 kg, under 250 kg) is listed at A$72.00 (A$71.09 under A$13), but Amazon says it is piloted on an invitation-only basis and is "not open to sellers at this time". Do not plan around it.
Products larger than 116 x 116 x 102 cm or heavier than 23 kg are prohibited from FBA, with listed exceptions for certain TVs and monitors. Note that large oversize bands go to 35 kg while the prohibition line sits at 23 kg. Read the product-level size rules in Seller Central before you assume a heavy item can go in.
FBA also does not deliver to postcodes 2898, 2899, 4875, 6798 and 6799.
What changed on 10 June 2026?
Amazon reduced selected FBA and Multi-Channel Fulfilment fulfilment fees effective 10 June 2026. The reductions vary by category, size tier and item price, and MCF gained discounted multi-unit rates across envelope and standard parcel tiers. Amazon states other FBA and MCF fulfilment fees remain unchanged at this time and that it will continue reviewing fees.
Amazon's announcement does not list amounts, and it does not tell you which rows moved. The tables above are the rates on the live pricing page, so they already reflect the change. If you built a margin model before June, replace it with current rates. Earlier cuts were 15 April 2024 (about A$0.20 a unit for standard-size and A$0.61 for large bulky, with A$0.77 extra off items under A$10) and 1 October 2024 (A$0.91 off items under A$13), both stated by Amazon staff in the seller forum. See Amazon Australia fee changes in 2026 for the full timeline.
Worked example: a 600 g product at A$25
This is illustrative and built from published rates, excluding GST. A kitchen gadget packs as a parcel, shipping weight 600 g, and sells for A$25.00.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| FBA fulfilment (parcel, 501-1,000 g, A$13 or more) | A$9.22 |
| Referral fee (Home and Kitchen 13% of A$25.00) | A$3.25 |
| Total before storage, ads and returns | A$12.47 |
If you cut weight to 480 g by removing a box insert, the band moves to 251-500 g and the fee falls to A$7.64, saving A$1.58 a unit. On 1,000 units that is A$1,580. Weight and packed size are the cheapest levers you have, so measure packed dimensions, not product dimensions. Run your own figures in the FBA calculator.
What does the FBA fee not cover?
The fulfilment fee does not include storage, aged inventory surcharges, removal, disposal or prep. See storage fees, removal and disposal fees and returns processing fees. Unplanned prep or labelling charges apply when stock arrives unprepared, with no amounts on the public page. For shipping stock in, see Send to Amazon shipments.
