Amazon Australia Seller Fees in 2026: Every Fee Layer, What Is Published and What Is Not

An Australian seller on Amazon.com.au pays up to five layers of fees: a plan fee (A$49.95 a month on Professional, excluding GST), a referral fee that is a percentage of each sale, FBA fulfilment and storage fees if Amazon ships for you, and per-unit charges for returns, removals and other services. Referral rates in the published table run from 5% to 15% depending on category and price. As of October 2026 Amazon publishes most rates but keeps returns processing and removal amounts inside Seller Central.

What fees does Amazon Australia charge sellers?

Here is every layer, with where to find the detail. Amounts exclude GST unless stated.

Source for the published amounts: https://sell.amazon.com.au/pricing. The one fee not covered by a sibling page is the closing fee. Media items (books, DVD, music, software, video, video games and accessories, consoles) carry a A$1.00 closing fee per item on all plans.

Which plan do you pay for: Individual or Professional?

The Professional plan costs A$49.95 a month plus selling fees, excluding GST, and applies once you have active listings, however many units you sell. The Individual plan costs A$0.99 per unit sold plus selling fees. Amazon suggests Individual for fewer than 50 items a month and Professional above that, which is guidance rather than a hard limit.

The break-even is simple. At A$0.99 an item, 50 items cost A$49.50, so Professional is cheaper from about 51 units a month. But the plan choice is not only about cost. Professional is required to create deals and to run any Amazon Ads. Read Individual vs Professional for the full comparison.

How much is the referral fee?

The referral fee is a percentage of the total sales price, including delivery and gift wrapping, and Amazon states there is no minimum or maximum. A few examples from the published table: Home and Kitchen 13%, Toys and Games 12%, Consumer Electronics 8%, Major Domestic Appliances 7%. Many categories use two rates that switch at a price point, for instance Beauty, Health and Personal Care at 8% up to A$20 and 13% above A$20. Anything not listed is 15%. What does FBA add on top?

Fulfilment by Amazon charges a per-unit fulfilment fee that covers picking, packing, shipping, customer service and returns handling, and Amazon states that all shipping costs are included. The fee depends on size tier, weight and whether the item sells for A$13 or more. A small envelope item at A$13 or more costs A$4.55; a parcel weighing 501 to 1,000 g costs A$9.22. FBA has no subscription fee, carrier contract or minimum inventory requirement.

Amazon reduced selected FBA and Multi-Channel Fulfilment fees from 10 June 2026 and said other fulfilment fees remain unchanged at this time. The 2026 fee changes page tracks what moved.

What are the storage and aged inventory fees?

Monthly storage is A$37.00 per cubic metre for standard-size items and A$34.20 for oversize from January to September, rising to A$51.80 and A$48.00 from October to December. An aged inventory surcharge starts at 271 days and is assessed on the 15th of each month: A$155 per cubic metre at 271 to 300 days, up to A$370 per cubic metre or A$0.12 per unit, whichever is greater, from 366 days. What about returns, removals and other per-unit charges?

Amazon says a returns processing fee applies to customer returns in categories where Amazon offers free shipping, but the amount is not on the public page. Removal and disposal carry a per-item fee, also without a public amount on that page. Unplanned prep and labelling charges apply when stock arrives unprepared. An inbound placement fee has applied in Australia since 1 March 2024, with no fee when you accept Amazon-optimised splits across several locations. Do not budget a made-up figure for these. Is GST added to Amazon fees?

Amazon quotes plan, FBA and MCF fees excluding GST. A staff reply in the seller forum says fees payable to Amazon are exclusive of sales, use, goods and services and similar taxes. Amazon does not publish whether 10% GST is added to an Australian seller's fee invoices, or whether your ABN changes that. Check your Seller Central fee invoices. Worked example: what does one sale cost?

This is an illustrative example built from published rates, all excluding GST. You sell a Home and Kitchen item for A$25.00 on the Professional plan through FBA. It is a parcel weighing 600 g.

How much does it cost to sell on Amazon Australia? The Professional plan is A$49.95 a month excluding GST, plus a referral fee of 5% to 15% per sale by category, plus FBA fees if you use Amazon fulfilment. The Individual plan is A$0.99 per item sold plus the same selling fees.

Are Amazon Australia fees charged in Australian dollars? Amazon.com.au quotes fees in "$", and the registration guide states the Professional fee as A$49.95 AUD plus GST. Payout currency is not separately stated on public pages.

Is there a minimum referral fee? No. Amazon states there is no minimum or maximum referral fee on the published table, so a very cheap item still pays the percentage and, with FBA, the fulfilment fee.

Do I pay FBA fees if I fulfil orders myself? No. FBA fulfilment, storage and returns processing fees apply to Fulfilment by Amazon inventory. If you ship orders yourself you pay the plan fee and referral fee only, plus your own postage costs. See FBA vs FBM.

Do Amazon Ads count as seller fees? Amazon Ads are billed separately. Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands charge per click, with no charge for impressions, and need an active Professional account.

Which fees can I not find a price for? Returns processing, removal and disposal, inbound placement amounts, storage utilisation surcharges and deal or coupon fees are not on the public pricing page. Amazon publishes them inside Seller Central.

Did Amazon change fees in 2026? Selected FBA and MCF fulfilment fees were reduced from 10 June 2026. Amazon's pricing page shows no 2026 change to the A$49.95 Professional fee or referral fees.
