Amazon Australia charges a referral fee of between 5% and 15% of the total sales price, depending on category, with no minimum or maximum fee. Home and Kitchen is 13%, Toys and Games 12%, Consumer Electronics 8%, and anything not listed pays 15%. The table below is Amazon's published rate card as read on 19 October 2026. The sales price includes delivery and gift wrapping, so shipping you charge a customer is also subject to the percentage.

What is the referral fee on Amazon.com.au?
The referral fee is Amazon's commission on each sale. You pay it on both the Individual and Professional plans, and on FBA and seller-fulfilled orders alike. It sits on top of the plan fee (see the Professional plan fee) and, for FBA, the fulfilment fee. For the whole stack, start at the overview of Amazon Australia seller fees.
Amazon states there is no minimum or maximum referral fee on its published table. That matters for cheap items. A A$5 item in a 15% category pays A$0.75, with no floor to soften the maths against the fulfilment fee.
What is the referral fee for every category?
Rates below are from Amazon's pricing page. Where two rates are shown, the first applies up to the price in the table and the second applies above it. Amazon states that tiered rates switch at the price shown.

Source for every row: https://sell.amazon.com.au/pricing. Amazon's table does not say whether the percentages are applied to a GST-inclusive or GST-exclusive sale price. Confirm that against a fee preview or settlement report in Seller Central.
How do the price tiers work?
Eleven categories have a price break, and the direction differs. Most step up: Beauty, Clothing, Pet, Tools and Baby all cost more above A$20. Jewellery, Computers, Shoes, Watches and Sports and Outdoors step down, so a higher-priced item pays a lower rate.
The practical consequence is that a price just over a threshold can cost you more fee than a price just under it. A Pet Products item at A$19.99 pays 10%. At A$20.01 the table moves to 13%. Amazon's page does not spell out whether the higher rate applies to the whole price or only to the portion above the threshold. The table wording suggests the whole price, and the examples below assume that. Test it with the fee preview for a real listing before you set prices around a break.
Which categories are cheapest and dearest?
At the low end, Video Game Consoles are 6%, Major Domestic Appliances and Base Equipment Power Tools 7%, and Computers drop to 6% above A$150. At the top, Media and "everything else" are 15%, Jewellery is 15% up to A$200, and Electronics Accessories are 13.5%.
Two traps catch new sellers. First, a product you think of as electronics may sit in Electronics Accessories at 13.5%, not Consumer Electronics at 8%. A phone case and a phone are in different rows. Second, a category not on the list silently pays 15%. Check where your ASIN is classified before you model margin. Check the category on your ASIN in Seller Central.
Worked examples: referral fee on a real price
These are illustrative and built from the table above. All amounts exclude GST, and assume the rate applies to the whole price.
| Product | Price | Rate | Referral fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home and Kitchen item | A$40.00 | 13% | A$5.20 |
| Pet Products item | A$18.00 | 10% | A$1.80 |
| Pet Products item | A$24.00 | 13% | A$3.12 |
| Laptop (Computers) | A$200.00 | 6% | A$12.00 |
| Watch | A$80.00 | 8% | A$6.40 |
Add delivery you charge. If a A$40 Home and Kitchen item carries A$5 delivery, the fee base is A$45 and the fee is A$5.85. To see the referral fee next to fulfilment, storage and ads, use the profit calculator.
Can referral fees be reduced?
Two published programmes reduce referral fees for eligible sellers, and both have conditions.
- FBA New Selection. New-to-FBA parent ASINs get a 5% referral fee for 120 days from the buyable date, capped at 100 standard-size or 50 oversize units per parent ASIN, with extra-large items excluded. Eligible listings must be buyable on or after 28 October 2025, and an Inventory Performance Index of 300 or more is required from 1 December 2025.
- Brand Registry New Seller Incentive. A 5% credit on referral fees on the first A$1,500,000 of eligible branded sales, up to A$75,000, plus a A$75 credit for Sponsored ads, subject to eligibility.
Neither is automatic for every seller. Read the programme pages for the terms, and see Amazon Brand Registry in Australia.
Have referral fees changed in 2026?
Amazon's pricing page shows no 2026 change to referral fees, and it shows the rates above as current. Amazon announced fee adjustments from 1 August 2025 with the Professional subscription and most referral fees unchanged, but gave no figures in the announcement. Amazon published no dated change log for referral rates. Selected FBA fulfilment fees did drop on 10 June 2026; see Amazon Australia fee changes in 2026.
How do referral fees compare with eBay and Kogan?
That belongs on a separate page: Amazon vs eBay vs Kogan seller fees puts the published rates side by side.
FAQ
What is the average Amazon referral fee in Australia? Amazon does not publish an average. The published table runs from 5% to 15%, and any category not listed pays 15%. Your effective rate depends on the category and, for tiered categories, on your price.
Is the referral fee charged on shipping? Yes. Amazon says the fee applies to the total sales price including delivery and gift wrapping, so any delivery charge you collect from the customer is included in the fee base.
Is there a minimum referral fee? No. Amazon states there is no minimum or maximum referral fee. A low-priced item pays only its percentage, which can be a few cents.
Do I pay the referral fee if the customer returns the item? Amazon's pricing page does not set out refund treatment of the referral fee. Refund and returns fee treatment is published inside Seller Central, so check your settlement reports. See returns processing fees for the FBA side.
Which category pays the lowest referral fee? Video Game Consoles at 6%, and Computers above A$150 also at 6%. Base Equipment Power Tools and Major Domestic Appliances are 7%. Jewellery above A$200 is 5%, which is the lowest rate on the table.
Is GST charged on the referral fee? Amazon quotes its plan and fulfilment fees excluding GST but does not state a GST treatment on the referral table. Check your fee invoices and confirm with the ATO or a registered tax agent. This is general information, not tax advice.
