Amazon Seller Monthly Fee in Australia: Professional A$49.95 vs Individual A$0.99 per Item

By Blooprint team ยท Published 20 October 2026 ยท 6 min read

Key takeaways

  • The Professional plan costs A$49.95 a month excluding GST, charged while you have active listings, however many units you sell, plus selling fees.
  • The Individual plan has no monthly fee but charges A$0.99 excluding GST per item sold, so the two cost the same at about 50 items a month.
  • Featured Offer eligibility, bulk listing, deals and Amazon Ads all sit with the Professional plan, so many sellers outgrow Individual on features before volume.
  • You can switch either way inside Seller Central, and Amazon says plans can be cancelled at any time; check the current menu path and fee treatment in your account.

The Amazon Australia Professional plan costs A$49.95 a month, excluding GST, plus selling fees. Amazon charges it when you have active listings, no matter how many units you sell. The Individual plan has no monthly fee. It charges A$0.99 excluding GST per unit sold, plus selling fees. As of October 2026, Amazon's pricing page shows no change to either figure.

What does the Professional plan fee cover?

The A$49.95 is the subscription for the plan. It is separate from the referral fee on each sale, which is a percentage by category. See Amazon Australia referral fees by category for those rates, and Amazon Australia seller fees for the whole fee stack.

Amazon states the fee as "excl. GST", so the cost to you is A$49.95 plus any GST that applies. The registration guide words it as "$49.95 AUD (+GST)". Whether Amazon adds 10% GST to the invoice for your account, and whether your ABN changes that, is shown on your fee invoices in Seller Central rather than on a public page. Read GST on Amazon seller fees and confirm with the ATO or a registered tax agent. This is general information, not tax advice.

The fee starts after registration is complete and verified, and the monthly and selling fees apply once you have active offers.

What does the Individual plan cost per item?

A$0.99 excluding GST per item sold, which Amazon also describes as a fixed closing fee per item. The Professional plan has no fixed closing fee. Media items (books, DVD, music, software, video and video games) carry a A$1.00 closing fee per item sold on all plans.

Referral fees apply on both plans. Amazon collects a referral fee on each sale, based on transaction value and category.

When does the Professional plan pay off?

On fee arithmetic alone, A$49.95 divided by A$0.99 is about 50 items a month. Below that, Individual is cheaper on fees. Above it, Professional is cheaper. Amazon's own guidance matches: Individual "might be right" if you sell fewer than 50 items a month, and its new-seller guide suggests Professional for more than 50. The 50-item figure is guidance, not a hard limit.

Items sold per month Individual (A$0.99 each, excl. GST) Professional (flat, excl. GST)
10 A$9.90 A$49.95
30 A$29.70 A$49.95
50 A$49.50 A$49.95
100 A$99.00 A$49.95
300 A$297.00 A$49.95

These are illustrative and only compare the two plan charges. Referral, FBA and other fees are the same on both plans, so they do not change the break-even.

Which features need the Professional plan?

Volume is rarely the only reason. These features need Professional:

  • Featured Offer eligibility (the Buy Box) and promotions such as free shipping. See Buy Box.
  • Bulk listing uploads by spreadsheet; Individual cannot add listings in bulk.
  • API access and more selling reports.
  • Deals such as Lightning Deals and Best Deals.
  • All Amazon Ads, which need an active Professional seller account. See Amazon ads in Australia.
  • Amazon Easy Ship, with an eligible Australian pick-up address.

If you plan to run ads or want to compete for the Featured Offer from the start, start on Professional even at low volume.

How do I switch plans or cancel?

Amazon says you can upgrade from Individual to Professional or downgrade from Professional to Individual within Seller Central settings, and that plans can be cancelled at any time. Amazon does not publish the click path or the rules on a public page, so treat these steps as a checklist, not a script:

  1. Open your account settings in Seller Central and find your selling plan or services section.
  2. Read Amazon's terms for the change before you confirm.
  3. Before downgrading, check your listings. Setting listings to inactive is a separate action from changing plan.
  4. Keep the confirmation and watch your next fee invoice.

What Amazon does not publish publicly: whether a fee already charged for the month is refunded, how a downgrade affects your payment cycle, and whether a change triggers extra verification. Ask Seller Central support before you act. Older seller forum posts suggest a downgrade can change the payment cycle, but they are not Amazon policy pages, so verify.

A worked example: 80 orders a month

Suppose you sell 80 units a month of a A$40 (GST-inclusive) toy in the Toys and Games category, where Amazon's referral rate is 12%. This is illustrative.

  • Referral fee: 12% of A$40.00 is A$4.80 per unit, the same on either plan.
  • Individual plan: 80 x A$0.99 = A$79.20 a month, excluding GST.
  • Professional plan: A$49.95 a month, excluding GST.

Professional saves A$29.25 a month in this case, before GST. At 30 units the result flips: Individual costs A$29.70 against A$49.95. The plan charge is also small next to the referral fee, which is why the features usually decide the question. If one Amazon Ads campaign or winning the Featured Offer lifts sales, the plan fee is a rounding error. If you sell a handful of one-off items, Individual is the cheaper way to stay on the platform.

One more point: Amazon notes that Professional is also the plan for sellers who want API integration and multiple users on the account. Those matter once you use inventory or repricing software.

What can go wrong with plan fees?

  • Paying for a plan you do not use. If you stop selling but leave listings active on Professional, the monthly fee keeps running, because Amazon ties it to active listings. Set listings to inactive or change plan.
  • Forgetting GST. Amazon quotes plan fees without GST, so budget the quoted figure plus whatever GST your invoice shows.
  • Treating 50 items as a rule. It is arithmetic and guidance. Your own mix of ads, FBA and returns can move the decision.
  • Relying on old forum steps. Menu paths change. Use the live Seller Central screens and Amazon support.

What about the merged global account?

If you sell in several countries, Amazon says a merged global Professional account costs the equivalent of US$39.99 a month, split across each country with an active listing and charged in local currency. Offers are created per marketplace.

Do I need to be GST registered to pay these fees?

No. Amazon's registration guide lets individuals without an ABN choose "None, I am an individual". Separately, the ATO requires GST registration once your GST turnover reaches A$75,000. That is a tax rule, not an Amazon plan rule. Confirm with the ATO or a registered tax agent.

FAQ

How much is the Amazon seller monthly fee in Australia? The Professional plan is A$49.95 a month excluding GST, plus selling fees, charged when you have active listings. The Individual plan has no monthly fee and charges A$0.99 per item sold instead.

Do I pay the A$49.95 if I sell nothing? Amazon says the fee applies when you have active listings, no matter how many units you sell. If you have no active listings and no sales, check your fee invoice and ask Seller Central support to confirm what applies.

Can I start on Individual and upgrade later? Yes. Amazon says you can upgrade from Individual to Professional within Seller Central settings. Some features, including ads and the Featured Offer, only open up on Professional.

Is the A$49.95 fee GST inclusive? No. Amazon states it excluding GST. Whether GST is added to your invoice depends on your account; your Seller Central invoice shows it. Confirm tax treatment with the ATO or an accountant.

Did Amazon change the Professional plan fee in 2026? Not on Amazon's published pricing page as of October 2026, which shows A$49.95. Amazon's 2025 fee announcement said the Professional subscription would stay unchanged. See Amazon Australia fee changes in 2026.

Can I run Amazon Ads on the Individual plan? No. Amazon says Amazon Ads need an active Professional seller account. If you expect to advertise within your first few months, choose Professional at registration, or upgrade before you build campaigns.
