This calculator shows the profit per unit on Amazon.com.au after every cost a seller usually carries: referral fee, FBA fulfilment or your own shipping, storage, product cost, advertising, a returns allowance and GST. Choose Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or merchant fulfilled (FBM), enter the price your customer pays including GST, and read the table. Sourced defaults are Amazon's published rates as of October 2026, such as a 13% Home and Kitchen referral fee and A$7.34 FBA fulfilment for a 0 to 250 g parcel.

Amazon Seller Profit Calculator for Australia: FBA or FBM, Ads, Returns and GST
By Blooprint team ยท Published 20 October 2026 ยท 5 min read
Key takeaways
- This calculator works out net profit per unit after referral, fulfilment, ads, returns and GST, for either Fulfilment by Amazon or merchant-fulfilled orders on Amazon.com.au.
- GST is 1/11 of a GST-inclusive price at 10%; if you are GST registered you remit it, and GST on your costs and Amazon's fees is generally a credit, not a cost.
- Ad spend is entered as TACoS, a percentage of the selling price, and the result shows the break-even TACoS where profit before ads is used up.
- Defaults are placeholders or sourced Amazon rates; the returns allowance and fee GST are your own inputs because Amazon publishes those amounts only in Seller Central.

How is this different from the FBA calculator?
The Amazon FBA calculator for Australia is a fee check for FBA only: price, referral, fulfilment, storage and cost. This one is a profit model. It adds the FBM option, advertising as TACoS, an allowance for returns, and an explicit GST treatment, and it shows the TACoS at which a unit stops making money. Use the FBA calculator to check a fee, and this one to decide whether a product is worth selling.
Which rates are the defaults?
- Referral fee. 13%, the published Home and Kitchen rate. There is no minimum or maximum referral fee. Look yours up in referral fees by category.
- FBA fulfilment. A$7.34 excluding GST for a 0 to 250 g parcel at A$13 or more. Used only when you pick FBA.
- FBA storage. A$37.00 per cubic metre per month for standard-size items, January to September, excluding GST.
- FBM shipping. Placeholder A$9.00 excluding GST. Amazon does not set your carrier cost, so use your own quote. Merchant fulfilment is described on Amazon's fulfilment page.
- Plan fee per unit. Not included. Divide A$49.95 excluding GST by your monthly units if you want it, or use the cost of A$0.99 per item on Individual.
- Ad spend (TACoS). Placeholder 8%. Amazon charges ads per click. See TACoS and ACOS.
- Returns. Placeholders. Amazon publishes the returns processing fee amount only inside Seller Central.
- GST rate. 10%, editable. Amazon applies GST to most items sold on Amazon.com.au.
How is GST treated?
In plain terms. Your customer pays a price that includes GST. At 10%, one eleventh of that price is GST that belongs to the ATO, not to you. If you are registered for GST, you report it on your BAS, and you can generally claim back the GST in your business costs such as stock, fees and ads, so those costs count at their GST-free amount. If you are not registered, you do not charge or remit GST, but you also cannot claim credits, so GST in your costs is a real cost to you. Registration is required once GST turnover reaches A$75,000.
Amazon quotes its fees excluding GST. Whether GST is added to the fee invoices of your account is shown in Seller Central, so the calculator has a separate "GST added to Amazon fees" box, default 0. Set it to 10 if your invoices show GST. It only changes the result if you are not registered. This is general information, not tax advice. Confirm with the ATO or a registered tax agent. See GST for Amazon sellers.
How does the calculation work?
Revenue is the GST-inclusive price less GST (if you are registered). From that it takes the referral fee, fulfilment or shipping, storage, ads, product cost and inbound. If you are not registered, it adds the GST you pay on costs and (optionally) on Amazon fees as a real cost. Expected profit then blends two outcomes. A kept order earns the profit above. A returned order earns nothing and loses the fulfilment or shipping cost, storage, ads and inbound you already spent, your processing cost, and the unsellable share of product cost. The blend is weighted by your return rate. The returns step assumes the referral fee is refunded with the sale, but Amazon's public pages do not state its refund rule, so enter any admin fee in the processing box.
With the defaults for a registered FBA seller, a A$40.00 item has A$36.36 revenue, A$5.20 referral, A$7.34 fulfilment, A$0.37 storage, A$3.20 ads, A$10.00 cost and A$1.00 inbound, leaving about A$9.25 if kept, and a little less after the returns allowance. Break-even TACoS is the ad percentage at which that profit hits zero.
What does this calculator leave out?
- Closing fees. A$0.99 excluding GST per item on Individual and A$1.00 per media item on all plans.
- Aged inventory and removals. See storage fees and removal and disposal fees.
- Income tax. This is profit before income tax. See income tax for Amazon sellers.
- Cash timing. Money arrives after a settlement period; see when Amazon pays sellers.
FAQ
What is a good profit margin on Amazon Australia? There is no sourced benchmark, and it varies by category and fulfilment method. Use the break-even TACoS in the calculator: if your planned ad spend is close to it, the product has little room for error. Compare margins across your products, not against a generic figure.
Does the calculator work for FBM? Yes. Pick FBM, and it uses your shipping cost instead of FBA fulfilment and storage. Amazon describes merchant fulfilment on its fulfilment page. Compare the two on FBA vs FBM.
How does GST affect my Amazon profit? If you are registered, GST in the price goes to the ATO and GST on your costs is generally claimable, so profit is measured excluding GST. If you are not registered, GST in your costs is a cost. Confirm your position with the ATO or a registered tax agent.
Is the referral fee charged on the GST-inclusive price? Amazon says the percentage applies to the total sales price, and its page does not say how GST is treated in that base. The calculator uses the GST-inclusive price as the cautious assumption. Check your fee preview.
What should I put for ad spend? Your TACoS, which is ad spend divided by total sales. A new product often needs more than a mature one. Amazon charges per click. See Amazon ACOS in Australia.
How should I set the returns allowance? Use your own return history by product. Amazon does not publish a returns processing amount publicly, so leave the processing box at zero until you see it in Seller Central.
What to do next
Run each product at your real price, then find the break-even TACoS and set ad targets below it. For fee detail, see Amazon Australia seller fees and the Australia hub. If you want a team to review margins and run ads against them, see Blooprint's Amazon Ads management in Australia.
