What is Multi-Channel Fulfilment?
MCF "extends lots of the advantages of FBA to other sales channels". The stock sits in FBA. When a customer buys from your own site, your system sends Amazon a fulfilment order and Amazon ships it. Amazon handles storage, picking, packing and shipping for a fee. See also the MCF glossary entry.
Two things stay with you: the sale itself, including pricing, tax and customer service for that channel, and the connection that passes orders to Amazon. Amazon's public pages do not describe the technical set-up for Australia in detail, so integrations are not covered here. This page is about Amazon's service and its fees. It is not advice on selling anywhere else.
How much does MCF cost in Australia?
MCF fees depend on the size tier, shipping weight and delivery speed you choose. These are a sample of rows from Amazon's published table, in A$ excluding GST:
| Tier and shipping weight | Standard | Expedited | Priority |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small envelope, 0-75 g | A$7.06 | A$8.47 | A$10.59 |
| Standard envelope, 0-75 g | A$7.39 | A$8.87 | A$11.09 |
| Parcel, 0-250 g | A$8.81 | A$10.57 | A$13.22 |
| Parcel, 501-1,000 g | A$11.71 | A$14.05 | A$17.57 |
| Parcel, 1,501-2,000 g | A$16.80 | A$20.17 | A$25.21 |
| Parcel, 5,001-6,000 g | A$25.99 | A$31.19 | A$38.99 |
Amazon's table also covers large envelope, small oversize, standard oversize and large oversize tiers, with per-kilogram charges above each tier's top weight band. We have sampled rows instead of reprinting the full table because it changes. Open the live table before pricing.
Three points on reading the table:
- Shipping weight is what Amazon bills on, and for parcels and larger tiers it is the greater of actual and dimensional weight.
- Speed matters. Expedited costs about 20% more than standard for a parcel in the rows above, and priority about 50% more. That is a calculation from the published rows, not an Amazon statement.
- MCF is dearer than FBA for the same item. A 250 g parcel pays less in FBA fulfilment: A$7.34 at A$13 or more and A$6.43 under A$13, against A$8.81 for MCF standard. See Amazon Australia FBA fees for those rates.
On 10 June 2026 Amazon reduced selected FBA and MCF fulfilment fees, including discounted multi-unit MCF rates for envelope and standard parcel tiers. Amazon says other fees remain unchanged at this time. The pricing page does not say which MCF rows changed and gives no figures for the multi-unit discounts, so ask Seller Central for the multi-unit rate before you assume any saving.
What is the Tasmania and Northern Territory surcharge?
Amazon charges an extra A$7.50 per unit for non-oversize items and A$20.00 per unit for oversize items delivered to Tasmania and the Northern Territory. It sits on top of the fee in the table, excluding GST.
| Example, standard speed, excluding GST | Fee | Surcharge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parcel 501-1,000 g to Sydney | A$11.71 | none | A$11.71 |
| Parcel 501-1,000 g to Hobart | A$11.71 | A$7.50 | A$19.21 |
This is illustrative and built from published rates. A customer in Hobart costs 64% more to serve than a customer in Sydney on the same parcel, so check whether your own-site shipping charges cover it.
Where can MCF deliver?
MCF does not serve postcodes 2898, 2899, 4875, 6798 and 6799, the same list as FBA. Amazon's public pages do not list other delivery restrictions or give transit-time promises for standard, expedited and priority speeds. Check the live service levels in Seller Central.
What does MCF cost beyond the fulfilment fee?
The stock you use for MCF is ordinary FBA inventory, so the other FBA costs still apply:
- Storage. A$37.00 per cubic metre per month for standard-size items from January to September and A$51.80 from October to December, excluding GST. See Amazon Australia storage fees.
- Inbound. Freight to the fulfilment centres, and the inbound placement fee if you choose a split that attracts one. See Send to Amazon shipments in Australia.
- Removal and returns. Amazon lists a per-item removal fee and a returns processing fee in some categories without public amounts. Check how returns from non-Amazon orders are handled in Seller Central.
- Selling plan. FBA is available on the Professional plan at A$49.95 a month excluding GST.
Amazon's public pages do not say whether any referral or other selling fee applies to MCF orders. Orders from your own site are not Amazon.com.au sales, so a referral fee would be unexpected, but confirm it in Seller Central before you build a margin model.
When does MCF make sense?
Run a per-order comparison. For a product that sells at A$60 including GST (A$54.55 excluding GST) with a 600 g packed weight, MCF standard costs A$11.71 excluding GST in the parcel row. If your own carrier costs A$9 including packaging and you pay a part-time packer A$4 an order, MCF costs less labour and about the same total. These inputs are illustrative. Your carrier discount, packing cost and order volume decide it.
MCF tends to fit when:
- you already hold stock in FBA and want one inventory pool instead of two;
- order volume on the other channel is too low to justify a warehouse, but not zero;
- you want delivery speed options without arranging couriers.
It tends not to fit when margins are thin, products are bulky and light, or most orders go to Tasmania, the Northern Territory or the excluded postcodes. Then fulfilling yourself with Australia Post or a 3PL may cost less. See FBA vs FBM in Australia.
Check this first. MCF uses stock in the same pool as your Amazon.com.au sales. If one channel sells out your inventory, the other cannot ship. Watch your stock levels and storage and capacity limits, covered on Amazon FBA capacity limits in Australia.
How do you start using MCF?
Amazon's public pages do not give a step-by-step Australian set-up, so the safest route is staged:
- Confirm you hold sellable FBA stock for the products you want to ship through MCF.
- Find the MCF settings in Seller Central and read the current rate card, service levels and any listing or labelling requirements for non-Amazon orders.
- Place one test order from your own site and follow it from order to delivery, noting the fee Amazon charges and the delivery time.
- Check how packaging, branding and returns work for those orders before you tell customers what to expect.
- Review monthly: compare MCF cost per order with the alternatives, and watch for stock-outs on Amazon.com.au.
