Flipkart Listing Guide 2026: Catalogue Rules, Image Specs, QC Failures and Bulk Upload

By Blooprint team · Published 25 September 2026 · 9 min read

Key takeaways

  • Flipkart builds most of the product page from category attributes, so an incomplete attribute sheet hurts search filters and listing quality more than a weak title does.
  • Images must be square, at least 500 by 500 px (1,000 by 1,000 recommended), on a white or plain background, with no text, MRP stickers, watermarks or visible mannequins.
  • Every new listing goes through a quality check that normally takes 24 to 48 hours; the same handful of image and attribute mistakes cause most QC failures.
  • Bulk upload through the Excel template in Catalog Manager is the only sensible route past about 50 SKUs, but one wrong column fails the whole batch.

Flipkart listings work differently from Amazon listings, and sellers who copy an Amazon catalogue across usually get a batch of QC failures and a page that ranks badly. On Flipkart the category attribute sheet does most of the work: the filters, the specification table, the search matching and a large part of the listing quality score all come from structured fields, not from the title. This guide covers, as of September 2026, how Flipkart's catalogue is structured, the image rules, what fails quality check and how to fix it, what the listing quality score rewards, how bulk upload works and what rich content adds. Where Flipkart publishes a number we use it; where it does not, we say so and give the range seller tools report.

For what each order will cost you once it is live, see our Flipkart seller fees guide. If you would rather hand the catalogue to people who have built them from inside Flipkart, our catalogue and listing optimisation service does this every day.

How is a Flipkart listing structured?

Every product on Flipkart is an FSN (Flipkart Serial Number, see our glossary entry), which is Flipkart's equivalent of an ASIN. A listing is created in Seller Hub under Listings, My Listings, Add New Listing, by choosing the vertical (the category path such as Clothing and Accessories, Women's Clothing, Kurtas) and then filling four blocks:

  1. Brand and identifiers. Brand name (must be approved for your account), model number or style code, and any GTIN/EAN if the vertical requires one.
  2. Price, stock and shipping. MRP, selling price, stock count, HSN code, tax code, procurement SLA, package dimensions and weight, and the fulfilment mode (seller-fulfilled or FBF).
  3. Product attributes. The vertical-specific sheet: for a kurta that means fabric, pattern, sleeve, neck, length, occasion, wash care and around twenty more; for a mixer grinder it means wattage, jar count, jar material, speed settings, warranty. Some are mandatory, some are optional, and the optional ones still count.
  4. Images and description. The image set, a free-text description, and key features.

The vertical you choose fixes the attribute sheet, the commission rate, and the returns policy shown to buyers, so it is the one decision worth getting right first. Listing in the wrong vertical is a QC failure and, if it slips through, a reason for later delisting.

What are the title and description rules?

Flipkart generates a large part of the display title from attributes (brand, product type, colour, size) and lets you add a product name. The practical rules:

  • Keep the full title under about 100 characters; the field accepts more but search results truncate.
  • Order: brand, product type, key attribute, size or pack, colour. "Kaveri Women Printed Cotton Straight Kurta, Blue, XL" reads the way Flipkart's own titles read.
  • No capitals for emphasis, no symbols, no "free", "offer", "sale", "best", and no competitor names.
  • Do not repeat attribute values that Flipkart already appends; you end up with "Blue Kurta Blue".

The description should be plain sentences covering material, fit or size, use, care and what is in the box; Flipkart shows it under the specification table. Key features are short bullets, five to eight of them, and appear high on the page. Flipkart also indexes the specification table, so a complete attribute sheet does more for search than a keyword-stuffed description. Claims that cannot be verified, medical claims, and any mention of price or delivery in the text are QC failures.

What are the image rules?

Flipkart's image guidelines are enforced at QC by a mix of software and human review. The rules that apply across most verticals:

RuleRequirement
ShapeSquare, 1:1
SizeMinimum 500 x 500 px (auto-rejected below); 1,000 x 1,000 px recommended, larger for zoom
FormatJPEG or PNG, sRGB
Background (primary)White or plain light background for most verticals; lifestyle backgrounds only in verticals that allow them (furniture, decor)
FillProduct fills roughly 80% to 85% of the frame, fully visible, one product per image
Not allowedText overlays, MRP or price stickers, watermarks, logos, borders, combo graphics, celebrity images, visible mannequins in apparel verticals that require model or flat-lay shots
CountVaries by vertical; most allow up to 8 or more, and Flipkart's own guidance is that listings with five or more images perform better

For fashion, Flipkart expects model shots or clean flat lays depending on the vertical; a dress form with a visible mannequin head or stand is a standard rejection. Footwear needs a side profile as the primary image. Electronics and appliances need the product front-on with any display switched off or showing a neutral screen. Where a vertical asks for a specific first image (side profile, front view) the QC team checks it.

Why do listings fail QC, and how do you fix each one?

Once you submit a listing, Flipkart generates a request ID and the listing goes to quality check. Seller tools and agencies report the check normally takes 24 to 48 hours, and sellers with a clean history may get near-instant approval on some verticals. Flipkart does not publish a turnaround commitment. The failure reasons we see most often:

QC failureCauseFix
Image not as per guidelinesNon-square, below 500 px, text or MRP visible, cluttered backgroundPad to square (do not stretch), re-export at 1,000 px or more, clip onto white, remove stickers
Blurred or pixelated imagePhone shot enlarged from a small originalRe-shoot in daylight; never upscale a thumbnail
Mannequin visibleDress form shot in an apparel vertical that requires model or flat layGhost-mannequin edit, flat lay, or a model shoot
Brand or MRP mismatchBrand or MRP on the packaging image differs from the formMake the image and the form say the same thing; correct whichever is wrong
Mandatory attribute missing or invalidBlank field, wrong unit, value not from the dropdownFill from the dropdown values; download the vertical's attribute sheet first
Brand not approvedNo brand authorisation for that verticalApply under Brand Approval with trademark certificate, authorisation letter or purchase invoice
Wrong vertical or duplicateProduct already exists as an FSN, or listed in the wrong categoryMap to the existing FSN instead of creating a new one; re-list in the right vertical
Compliance details missingManufacturer, country of origin, net quantity, licence numbers (FSSAI, BIS) absent for regulated goodsAdd the Legal Metrology fields and a packaging image that shows them

Worked example. A home-linen seller submits 40 bedsheet FSNs. 28 fail QC for "image not as per guidelines" because the primary shots are 4:3 with a printed MRP tag visible in the corner. The seller pads each image to square on a white canvas, retouches out the tag, and re-submits. All 28 clear within two days. The 12 that passed first time were the ones shot on a plain white sheet with the tag turned away. The cost of the failure was not money; it was two days of a 40-SKU launch and the ad campaigns that were already scheduled.

What is the listing quality score and what does it reward?

Flipkart scores each listing on completeness and quality and shows the result in Seller Hub as a listing quality rating; see our glossary entry on listing quality score. Flipkart does not publish the formula. From the dashboard prompts and Flipkart's own seller guidance, the score moves with:

  • Attribute completeness, including optional attributes. A listing with every field filled scores higher than one with only mandatory fields, because filters and the specification table depend on them.
  • Image count and compliance; five or more images is the threshold Flipkart's guidance repeatedly cites.
  • Description and key-features present and of reasonable length.
  • Rich content present (see below) on verticals that support it.
  • Absence of QC or policy flags, and not being a duplicate of an existing FSN.

A higher score does not guarantee rank, but Flipkart's ranking weighs listing quality alongside price, seller tier, delivery speed and conversion, and Flipkart's advertising tools (see our Flipkart ads guide) will serve a poor-quality listing less often at the same bid. The dashboard lists the listings that need work under "Improve listing quality"; work through them highest-traffic first.

How does bulk upload work?

Bulk upload lives in Seller Hub under Listings, Catalog Manager (older accounts may see "Bulk Listing"). The process:

  1. Choose the vertical and download its Excel template. Each vertical has its own template with the attribute columns and, in the sheet, the allowed dropdown values.
  2. Fill one row per FSN. Image columns take public URLs (your own server, a CDN or Flipkart's image upload), not file attachments, so host the images first.
  3. Upload the sheet. Flipkart validates it and returns an error file listing each row and column that failed; fix and re-upload only the failed rows.
  4. Successful rows go to QC exactly as single listings do.

Bulk upload is faster than single listing once you pass about 50 SKUs, but it is unforgiving: a value typed rather than chosen from the dropdown, a unit in the wrong column or a broken image URL fails the row, and a structural error in the sheet can fail the batch. Keep a master sheet per vertical, never edit Flipkart's header row, and test with five rows before uploading five hundred. The same template, with the FSN column filled, is how you update price, stock and attributes in bulk later.

What is rich content, and is it worth doing?

Rich content is Flipkart's equivalent of Amazon A+: image and text modules that sit below the specification table on the product page. It is available on approved brands in supported verticals through Seller Hub (under Listings, Rich Content or via the brand's category manager), with a set of module templates (banner, image with text, comparison, feature grid). It is free. It is not indexed for search; its job is conversion and lower returns. The modules that pay for themselves are a size or dimension module, a comparison of your own variants, and a care or usage module for products with high returns. Rich content goes through its own review and is rejected for the same reasons as images: price or offer text, unverifiable claims and competitor names.

What should a Flipkart listing checklist look like?

  1. Vertical confirmed against Flipkart's own examples; brand approved for that vertical.
  2. Attribute sheet downloaded; every mandatory and every applicable optional field filled from the dropdowns.
  3. Primary image square, white or plain background, 1,000 px or more, no text or stickers; four or more secondary images including scale, detail and use.
  4. Title under 100 characters in brand, type, attribute, size, colour order; no repeated attribute values.
  5. Description and five to eight key features written; no price, delivery or medical claims.
  6. Compliance fields (manufacturer, country of origin, net quantity, licence numbers) present on the form and visible on a packaging image.
  7. MRP, HSN and tax code checked against the invoice; weight and dimensions measured, not guessed, because shipping fees depend on them.
  8. After go-live, listing quality rating checked and rich content added where available.

FAQ

How long does Flipkart QC take? Flipkart does not publish a commitment. Seller tools and agencies report 24 to 48 hours as normal, with faster or near-instant approval for sellers with a clean listing history on some verticals. A failed listing that is fixed and re-submitted goes back into the same queue.

What image size does Flipkart require? Square images, at least 500 x 500 px, with 1,000 x 1,000 px or larger recommended. JPEG or PNG. The primary image needs a white or plain background with no text, MRP or watermark.

Can I list without brand approval? Only for generic or unbranded products in verticals that allow them. For any brand name you need brand approval, which needs a trademark certificate, a brand authorisation letter or purchase invoices depending on the vertical.

Does Flipkart have A+ content? Yes, it is called rich content and is available to approved brands in supported verticals. It is free and adds image and text modules below the specification table.

Why does my listing show a low listing quality score when QC passed? QC checks compliance; the quality score measures completeness. Optional attributes left blank, fewer than five images and a missing description are the usual reasons. Fill them and the score updates.

Is there a limit on how many products I can bulk upload? Flipkart does not publish a row limit in its public pages; the practical constraint is validation errors. Upload in batches of a few hundred rows so a single error file stays manageable.

Getting your Flipkart catalogue built properly

A Flipkart catalogue that clears QC first time and scores well on listing quality is mostly a matter of respecting the attribute sheet and the image rules, and of not cutting corners on bulk upload. Our team has worked on these catalogues from inside Flipkart and now builds and repairs them for brands through our catalogue and listing optimisation service. For the wider account, our Flipkart account health guide covers the metrics that decide your seller tier.
