How to run your account

Agency vs Software vs Doing It Yourself: Managing Marketplace Accounts 2026

By Blooprint team · Published 25 September 2026 · 9 min read

Key takeaways

  • Doing it yourself is right for up to about 20 ASINs and Rs 30,000 a month of ad spend with two hours a week, helped by Flipkart's free Saarthi dashboard and Amazon's built-in budget rules.
  • Software such as BlooprintAI (Rs 12,999 a month for Flipkart and Shopsy ads, Rs 14,999 for Amazon India and UAE, 7-day trial) runs rules on ads and pays back from about Rs 50,000 a month of spend.
  • An agency makes sense when ads are one symptom among listings, account health, fees and inventory, or when spend is large enough that a 5-point ACoS gain covers the fee several times over.
  • Industry pricing for Indian marketplace agencies in 2026 runs from about Rs 15,000 a month for a freelancer to Rs 1.5 lakh or more for a full-service team, and the account login should stay yours.

There are three ways to run a marketplace account: do it yourself, use software that automates the repetitive parts, or hand it to an agency. We sell two of the three. Blooprint Automation is a managed service and BlooprintAI, our sister product, is software, so this guide has an obvious interest to declare, and the honest answer is that doing it yourself is the right choice for a lot of sellers, including most of the ones who contact us with under Rs 5 lakh a month in sales. As of September 2026 this guide sets out what each option costs, what it actually does, where it breaks, and a verdict by seller size, so you can pick before anyone pitches you. Fee facts about the platforms come from our Amazon and Flipkart fee guides; agency price ranges are from a 2026 industry survey cited in our Amazon Ads guide.

When is doing it yourself the right answer?

More often than agencies admit. A seller with one Amazon or Flipkart account, up to about 20 ASINs and under Rs 30,000 a month of ad spend can run it well with two hours a week, provided that time actually happens: search-term report weekly, bids fortnightly, structure quarterly, and the fee settlement reconciled monthly. The platforms have made this easier in 2026. Flipkart's Saarthi programme, announced 27 August 2026, gives every seller a free dashboard with alerts, custom rules and day-parting, plus free campaign management from certified agencies for matched sellers; Amazon's budget rules and dynamic bidding are built into the console; both publish fee calculators, and ours run without a login (Amazon, Flipkart).

DIY breaks in predictable ways, and they are worth naming because they are the reasons people call us. The auto campaign runs alone for six months. Negatives are never added, so the same irrelevant terms are paid for every week. Ads are judged on the console's ROI or ACoS without the fee stack behind it, so a "healthy" 4x ROI loses money on a 15% margin product. The Flipkart account sits at Bronze for a year because nobody worked the tier metrics. A dispatch date is missed in Big Billion Days week and the Rs 30 to Rs 90 penalties introduced on 23 August 2026 eat the margin. None of these needs an agency to fix; they need the two hours a week to be real.

If you spend under Rs 50,000 a month on ads and have time to check reports weekly, the console plus the free tools is enough. That is the line our own ads guides draw, and it is the line we hold in the first call.

When does software earn its fee?

Software does one thing well: it runs rules without getting bored. Bid changes on a threshold, negatives added from the search-term report, converting terms harvested into exact match, budgets paused when stock runs low, alerts when ROI or ACoS crosses a line. BlooprintAI does that for Flipkart and Shopsy ads at Rs 12,999 a month and for Amazon India and UAE ads at Rs 14,999, with a 7-day trial; other marketplaces are coming soon and are not covered today. Software does not decide your break-even ROI, fix a listing that converts at 2%, negotiate a category rate, or notice that a return rate has doubled. It suits a seller who already understands the campaign structure in our Amazon Ads guide or Flipkart Ads guide and wants the hours back.

The arithmetic is simple. At Rs 50,000 a month of ad spend, a 10% efficiency gain from consistent negatives and harvesting is Rs 5,000 of wasted spend recovered, which does not cover Rs 12,999; the hours saved have to be worth the rest. At Rs 1.5 lakh a month the same 10% is Rs 15,000 and the software pays for itself before counting time. Below about Rs 50,000 a month, use the free tools; the trial is there to test that line on your own account.

When does an agency make sense?

An agency makes sense when ads are one symptom of a bigger problem, or when the money is large enough that a small improvement pays the fee many times over. The first case is the common one: listings that do not convert, a catalogue with wrong attributes, prices out of line with the category, stock-outs on advertised ASINs, an account health warning, fees that nobody has reconciled against the rate card, and a festive season coming. Software cannot see most of that, and a seller doing it alone usually cannot see all of it at once. The second case is arithmetic: at Rs 5 lakh a month of ad spend, a 5-point ACoS improvement is Rs 25,000 a month of margin, and a Rs 50,000 agency fee pays back if the agency also lifts sales, which is the job.

What to ask before you sign, whoever you talk to. Whether you keep the ad account in your own login (our clients do). Whether the team has run the marketplace from the inside, which is why we say "ex-Flipkart" and not a longer list. Whether they report on fee reconciliation and account health, not just ads. Whether they promise results, which nobody honest does on a marketplace they do not control. And whether they will tell you to stay DIY if your spend is small; we do, on the first call, because a client that churns in three months costs us more than it pays.

What does each cost against a real account?

Take a Flipkart seller doing Rs 8 lakh a month in sales with Rs 60,000 of ad spend at a 4x ROI (a 25% ACoS), on 0% commission SKUs with a 30% margin after fees. DIY costs the owner about eight hours a month. BlooprintAI costs Rs 12,999 plus GST and, if rules lift ROI from 4x to 4.5x on the same spend, adds about Rs 30,000 of ad-attributed sales, or Rs 9,000 of margin, plus the hours. A managed service at, say, Rs 40,000 a month has to add Rs 1.3 lakh of monthly sales at that margin just to cover its fee, which on an account with a fixable listing problem and a Bronze tier surcharge is plausible and on a clean account is not. The point of the exercise is that the right option is set by the account's problems, not by its size alone.

Most of the brands we manage started DIY, moved to software or an agency when a specific problem appeared, and some have gone back to DIY with software once the account was clean. That is the right shape. The wrong shape is paying an agency to run a clean account with a small ad budget, or trusting software to fix a listing.

FAQ

How much does a marketplace agency cost in India? A 2026 industry survey puts it at about Rs 15,000 a month for a freelancer to Rs 1.5 lakh or more for a full-service team. Blooprint quotes on scope after a free audit.

How much does BlooprintAI cost? Rs 12,999 a month for Flipkart and Shopsy ads and Rs 14,999 a month for Amazon India and UAE ads, plus GST, with a 7-day trial. Other marketplaces are coming soon and are not covered yet.

Can I manage Amazon and Flipkart ads myself? Yes, up to about 20 ASINs and Rs 30,000 a month of spend with two hours a week. Flipkart's free Saarthi dashboard and Amazon's built-in budget rules cover much of what software did two years ago.

Should an agency own my ad account? No. Campaigns should sit in your Seller Central or Seller Hub login with the agency or software added as a user, so the history stays with you if you change providers.

Does an agency guarantee results? No honest one does on a marketplace it does not control. What it can commit to is the work: audit, fix list, weekly ads management, monthly reconciliation and reporting.

Can I use software and an agency together? Yes; some of our managed clients run BlooprintAI rules under the team's strategy, and some brands run the software themselves with a quarterly audit.

Deciding without a pitch

If your ad spend is under Rs 50,000 a month and your account is clean, stay DIY and use the free tools; if you understand campaign structure and want the hours back, trial the software; if listings, account health, fees and ads all need attention at once, or the spend is large, talk to an agency. If that last case is you, see our Amazon account management service and the Flipkart equivalent; the first call is a free audit, and we will say which of the three options fits before we quote. Blooprint has run marketplace accounts for 100-plus brands since 2021 from Bengaluru, and the Amazon service page sets out exactly what is included so you can compare it with doing it yourself.
