Amazon.ae restricts products in two ways. Some products are prohibited and cannot be listed at all; others sit in restricted categories that you can open by applying for approval. Amazon's seller site states the underlying rule: products offered for sale must comply with all laws and regulations, as well as Amazon policies. Amazon.ae does not publish a complete list of banned or restricted products on its public seller pages, as of October 2026, so the working method is to check each product in your own Seller Central before buying stock.

Amazon.ae Restricted Products in 2026: What You Cannot List, What Needs Approval and How to Check a Product First
By Blooprint team · Published 10 October 2026 · 6 min read
Key takeaways
- Amazon.ae says every product must comply with all laws and regulations as well as Amazon policies, so a product can be blocked by either.
- Restricted is not the same as prohibited: restricted categories can be opened by approval, while prohibited products cannot be listed.
- FBA has its own list of products that cannot be shipped to Amazon fulfilment centres, so a product allowed on Easy Ship or self-ship may still be refused for FBA.
- Amazon.ae does not publish a complete banned-products list for the UAE on its public seller pages, so check each product in Seller Central before you buy stock.

What is the difference between restricted, gated and prohibited?
| Term | Meaning | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Prohibited | Cannot be listed | Do not buy stock |
| Restricted or gated | Needs approval first | Apply, see category approval |
| FBA-restricted | Cannot be shipped to Amazon fulfilment centres | Use Easy Ship or self-ship, if the product is otherwise allowed |
Amazon's glossary describes restricted product categories as Approval Requiring Categories, where it may run performance checks and require other requirements, and you request approval through Seller Central. Its beginner guide gives certain grocery or automotive products as examples.
What is the legal test for a product?
Amazon's test has two layers: the law, and Amazon policy. Both apply. A product that is legal in the UAE can still be banned by Amazon policy, and a product Amazon allows can still be illegal to sell without the right permit.
This page does not list UAE legal restrictions, because we did not verify them from primary sources for this article. For products that are regulated, such as food, cosmetics, medical items, electronics or children's goods, the UAE federal and emirate authorities and Dubai Customs set the rules. Ask the relevant authority or your customs broker what permit or conformity proof you need, and keep the documents. This is general information, not legal advice.
Does FBA have extra restrictions?
Yes. Amazon says sellers participating in Amazon Fulfillment must comply with FBA-specific product restrictions, and it provides a list of products that cannot be shipped to Amazon fulfilment centres. Amazon.ae also charges additional storage fees for dangerous goods.
In practice, a product can be fine for Easy Ship and still be refused for FBA inbound. Read the FBA list before you create a shipment, not after the stock is packed. FBA costs are on Amazon.ae FBA fees.
Check this first. The public glossary pages give the rule, not the list. The authoritative list is the one Seller Central shows for your account and marketplace.
How do you check a product before buying stock?
- Search the product in Add a Product in Seller Central and read the status for your account. If it asks you to apply, it is gated. If it blocks listing, it is not available to you.
- Check the FBA list if you plan to use FBA.
- Check the brand. Some brands are gated separately even in open categories.
- Check the law. Ask the authority or your broker whether the product needs a permit, conformity proof or labelling.
- Check the claims. Health, safety and performance claims in a title or image can be a problem even when the product is allowed.
- Write down the date and the screen. Restrictions change, so keep proof of what you saw before you bought.
Do not start with a lookalike listing. A seller who lists in the wrong category to avoid a gate risks an account-level warning. See Amazon.ae account health.
Which questions should you ask for each product type?
The table gives questions, not rules. We have not verified UAE requirements for these product types, so the answers must come from the authority named or from your customs broker.
| Product type | Ask |
|---|---|
| Food and supplements | Which authority registers or approves it, and does the label need Arabic? |
| Cosmetics and personal care | Is a product registration or notification needed before sale? |
| Electronics and chargers | Is conformity proof required, and who issues it? |
| Children's products and toys | Which safety standard applies and what test report proves it? |
| Perfume and aerosols | Are there shipping limits for flammable contents, including FBA? |
| Branded goods | Can you prove authorised supply with an invoice or letter? |
Keep the written answers with your product file. Amazon may ask for documents when it reviews a listing, and an approval application is easier when the same papers are already in one folder.
Which seller type is affected?
Everyone is, but in different ways.
- Brand owners and distributors usually face brand and category approval, where documents prove authorised supply.
- Resellers and arbitrage sellers face the highest risk of surprise gating, because their stock comes from retail sources.
- New accounts with no history are more likely to be blocked or asked for more, since performance checks are part of approval.
- Individual-plan sellers should confirm the plan allows the category. Amazon's pricing page lists selling in restricted categories as a feature the Professional plan suits.
Worked example: a seller plans a 500-unit order
This is an illustration. A Dubai trading company wants to import 500 units of a branded personal-care item. At an assumed AED 30 landed cost, the order is AED 15,000.
| Step | Cost of finding out late | Cost of finding out early |
|---|---|---|
| Product gated for the account | AED 15,000 of stock you cannot list | AED 0, stock not yet bought |
| Product refused for FBA | Re-routed to Easy Ship or sold elsewhere | Planned from day one |
| Missing permit | Customs delay or refusal | Permit sorted before shipping |
The numbers are made up to show the logic: a five-minute status check is cheaper than any of the late outcomes.
How do you keep the checks from slowing you down?
Make the check part of buying, not an afterthought. Add four columns to your sourcing sheet: gate status, FBA status, legal permit and date checked. A SKU does not get a purchase order until all four are filled in. Re-check any SKU whose last check is older than a quarter, and any SKU after Amazon sends a policy notice, because restrictions can change over time. When you add a new supplier or brand, treat it as a new product for this purpose, since brand gating is separate from category gating.
Share the sheet with whoever signs off purchases. In small UAE trading companies the buyer, the listing person and the owner are often three people, and the gate surprise usually happens in the gap between them.
What should you do if a listing is flagged?
- Read the notification in Seller Central and note the ASIN, the policy named and the date.
- Remove or correct the listing if it is plainly in breach.
- If you believe the flag is wrong, answer through the account's own process with evidence such as invoices, certificates or brand letters.
- Stop buying more stock for that product until it is resolved.
Amazon's own appeal and plan-of-action process is the route.
FAQ
What products are restricted on Amazon.ae? Amazon's public pages say restricted product categories, such as certain grocery or automotive products, can require performance checks and other qualifications. A complete list is not published there, so check each product in Seller Central.
What is the difference between restricted and prohibited on Amazon.ae? Restricted products can be listed after you obtain approval. Prohibited products cannot be listed. Amazon describes approval-requiring categories on its glossary page.
Do UAE laws apply to Amazon.ae listings? Amazon says products must comply with all laws and regulations as well as Amazon policies. Confirm legal requirements with the relevant UAE authority.
Can I send a restricted product to FBA? Not if it is on Amazon's list of products that cannot be shipped to fulfilment centres. Check the list first.
Where can I see the full restricted list? Not on Amazon.ae's public seller pages as we read them in October 2026. Use Seller Central, where the status shows for your account.
Will approval always be granted if I apply? Not necessarily. Amazon says it may run performance checks and require other requirements. It does not publish approval rates.
