Amazon's public Fulfilment by Amazon page says its Australian fulfilment centres are in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane, and that the centre your stock goes to depends on your shipping plan. Amazon does not publish a full list of street addresses, sizes or inventory capacities for these sites. This page sets out what Amazon has said publicly as of October 2026, what is only a news headline, and what you actually control as a seller.

Where are Amazon's fulfilment centres in Australia?

The seller-facing FBA page names four metropolitan areas.

Location What Amazon says publicly Source
Melbourne Named as an FBA fulfilment centre location. Amazon's first Australian centre opened at Dandenong South, Victoria, in 2017. https://sell.amazon.com.au/fulfilment-by-amazon and https://www.aboutamazon.com.au/news/economic-impact/amazon-australia-invests-in-a-new-melbourne-fulfilment-centre
Sydney Named as an FBA location. A Western Sydney centre was announced on 1 November 2024, with a photo caption naming Horsley Park. https://sell.amazon.com.au/fulfilment-by-amazon and https://www.aboutamazon.com.au/workplace/facilities
Perth Named as an FBA location. Amazon does not publish a suburb, size or opening date for it. https://sell.amazon.com.au/fulfilment-by-amazon
Brisbane Named as an FBA location. A separate Queensland robotics centre has been announced (see below). https://sell.amazon.com.au/fulfilment-by-amazon

Amazon's corporate facilities page for Australia lists Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and Adelaide, and does not distinguish fulfilment centres from offices, so Canberra and Adelaide should not be read as FBA destinations. For FBA, the four cities on the seller page are the ones to plan around.

Check this first. Amazon can open, move or reassign sites faster than its public pages are updated. The destination that matters for your stock is the one Seller Central shows in your shipping plan, not any list on a website.

What has Amazon announced about new centres?

These are headlines on Amazon's own facilities page, so treat dates as publication dates rather than confirmed opening dates:

  • Western Sydney. An article dated 1 November 2024 announced a fulfilment centre in Western Sydney, with the photo caption naming Horsley Park.
  • Victoria. An article dated 15 August 2025 reports A$200 million of new logistics sites in Victoria, with a caption about the official opening of a third Victorian fulfilment centre in the City of Casey.
  • Queensland. An article dated 12 March 2026 says Amazon Australia is investing over A$750 million in a new robotics fulfilment centre in Queensland. No opening date or size is given on the page.

Earlier, in October 2020, Amazon announced a Ravenhall (Melbourne) centre of 37,000 square metres. That is history, not a current inventory of sites.

A note on global numbers: two Amazon seller pages quote different worldwide fulfilment centre counts, so we do not repeat either. The count that matters to an Australian seller is how many locations your shipments are split across.

How does Amazon decide which centre gets your stock?

Amazon says your shipping plan determines the centre. In practice that means the Send to Amazon workflow proposes destinations based on your products and the placement option you choose. You do not pick Perth because your customers are in Western Australia, though a well-split shipment can place stock closer to them.

Amazon's inbound placement service has three outcomes, per an Amazon representative's forum reply:

Option What happens Fee
Minimal split Fewer destinations Location-based inbound placement fee
Partial split A middle option Reduced fee
Amazon-optimised split Generally four or more locations No fee

The forum reply does not state the fee amounts or currency, and Amazon publishes the amounts inside Seller Central. The trade-off is plain. A minimal split means fewer cartons routed to different places and cheaper inbound freight for you, but you pay Amazon the placement fee. An optimised split costs no placement fee but means several deliveries to several cities. Compare the placement fee in Seller Central with the extra freight quotes before you choose. The full workflow is in Send to Amazon shipments in Australia.

How long does it take stock to become available?

Amazon says inventory is typically scanned and made available for sale within three working days of delivery. That clock starts when the carrier delivers, not when you book. You can follow progress in the Shipping Queue and on each shipment's Shipment Summary page.

Budget more time than the typical three working days when:

  • you are sending a large shipment into a peak period;
  • cartons carry the wrong label or several shipments share one carton;
  • you are importing, since freight, customs clearance and the final delivery all come before Amazon's receiving clock starts. See shipping from China to Amazon FBA Australia.

Who delivers to customers from these centres?

Amazon does. The FBA fulfilment fee covers picking, packing, shipping, customer service and returns, and Amazon says all shipping costs are included. Australian customers get free shipping on eligible orders over A$59. Amazon does not deliver to postcodes 2898, 2899, 4875, 6798 and 6799 under FBA or Multi-Channel Fulfilment.

Does the centre location change what you pay?

The published FBA fulfilment fee depends on size tier, weight and item price, not on which city holds the stock. See Amazon Australia FBA fees. Storage is billed per cubic metre on daily average volume, also without a published city adjustment; the rates are on Amazon Australia storage fees. The location effect shows up elsewhere: the inbound placement fee if you choose a minimal split, and your own freight cost to each centre. For Multi-Channel Fulfilment, Amazon adds a surcharge for deliveries to Tasmania and the Northern Territory. See Amazon multi-channel fulfilment in Australia.

What is not public?

Amazon does not publish these on its public pages: street addresses of each centre, which categories each site handles, site capacity, which centre receives which product type, or how Amazon assigns destinations. If a freight forwarder or prep centre quotes you a specific address, confirm it against the shipment label in Seller Central, which carries the delivery address for that shipment.

How should you plan stock around the locations?

Think in terms of lead time and split, not city names. Four habits help:

  1. Send small first. A test shipment shows you the destinations, the placement fee options and how long receiving takes for your product, before you commit a container of stock.
  2. Match the split to the product. A heavy, low-margin item rarely justifies several freight legs, so a minimal split may win even with a placement fee. A light, fast-moving item often suits an optimised split with no placement fee.
  3. Keep the shipment ID labels with the right carton. Each shipment is tied to a destination, so mixing cartons between shipments creates receiving delays.
  4. Check the remote-postcode list. If a share of your customers sit in the excluded postcodes, you may need to fulfil those orders yourself. See FBA vs FBM in Australia.

Amazon can also limit how much stock you send. Capacity limits are explained on Amazon FBA capacity limits in Australia.

FAQ

How many fulfilment centres does Amazon have in Australia? Amazon does not publish a single current count. Its seller page names Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane, and its news pages mention a third Victorian centre and a Western Sydney centre.

Can I choose which fulfilment centre receives my stock? Not directly. Your shipping plan determines the destination. Your lever is the inbound placement option, which sets how many locations your units are split across.

Where is Amazon's biggest Australian fulfilment centre? Amazon does not publish a ranking by size. The only size Amazon has made public is 37,000 square metres for the Ravenhall announcement in 2020, which is history rather than a current comparison.

Does Amazon have a fulfilment centre in Adelaide or Canberra? Amazon lists both cities among its Australian locations, but the page does not say whether they are fulfilment centres or offices. The seller FBA page does not name them as FBA centres.

Where do I send FBA stock if I am in Tasmania or Western Australia? To whichever address Seller Central assigns in your shipping plan, which may be interstate. Freight to a distant centre is a real cost, so get quotes before you commit to a minimal or optimised split.

Is there a centre in New Zealand? Amazon's facilities page lists only offices in Auckland and Wellington, not fulfilment centres, so Australian FBA does not use New Zealand sites.

Next steps

Do not plan around a list of cities. Create a test shipping plan in Seller Central, read the destinations it proposes, and price your freight and placement fee for each option. Blooprint, an Amazon SPN verified partner, can do this planning for you through its Amazon FBA management service, and the Amazon Australia hub links the rest of the FBA series, starting with the FBA guide.
