To sell electronics online in the UAE, check three things before you buy stock: whether the device needs TDRA type approval, whether it falls under a MoIAT technical regulation, and what warranty the marketplace requires. TDRA says radio and telecommunications equipment must be registered before it can be used, sold or distributed in the UAE. noon requires a one-year warranty on electronics, electrical appliances and machinery in the UAE. The fees below were published as of October 2026.

Which electronics need TDRA type approval?

TDRA covers telecommunications and radio equipment. Its service page names device types such as Wi-Fi and WLAN, mobile phones and drones in its sample rules. Anything that transmits or receives radio signals is worth checking, for example smart watches, wireless earbuds, routers and Bluetooth speakers. A plain wired item, such as a cable or a passive stand, is a different case; TDRA's pages do not give a full product table, so ask TDRA if the device is borderline.

It is a two-step process: your company registers as a telecom equipment supplier, then each device is approved. TDRA lists a AED 500 transaction review fee and AED 200 certificate issuance fee, and type approval is valid for 3 years. The step-by-step process, the 2022 supplier fees and the approved-equipment search are in TDRA type approval for sellers.

Check this first. Search TDRA's approved equipment list for the exact model before you order. If a model is approved under another company, that does not make you a registered supplier.

When do you need a MoIAT conformity certificate?

MoIAT issues the UAE Certificate of Conformity for products subject to technical regulations, and it publishes the list of covered products as the "CAD Regulated Sheet". We could not read that list, so we cannot say which electrical products are on it. Ask your supplier for the certificate number, or ask MoIAT or a notified body whether your product is regulated.

MoIAT's listed fees are AED 620 to register in the system, AED 500 for the technical review of each certificate and AED 2,500 for issuing it. For example, one product with one certificate costs AED 620 + AED 500 + AED 2,500 = AED 3,620 in MoIAT fees, before lab tests. Lab prices are not published by MoIAT. The full process is in the ECAS certificate guide.

What warranty do marketplaces require?

noon's UAE policy requires a one-year warranty for electronics, electrical appliances and machinery, and says electronic accessories may vary by brand or manufacturer policy. Whoever services the product has 14 days from delivery to them to resolve a warranty claim, by repair, replacement or authorised refund. If the deadline is missed, noon may refund the customer in full and debit it from your account. Setting the warranty type in Seller Lab and the Brand versus Seller Warranty rules are in noon warranty requirements.

Refurbished and renewed electronics have their own rules, covered in selling refurbished or renewed on noon and, for phones, selling used phones online in the UAE. Consumer law also applies to you: UAE consumer protection covers goods sold through e-commerce platforms registered in the UAE. See UAE consumer protection and online returns.

What should you check for each model before you list it?

Keep one row per model. This table is a working checklist, not a legal list, and each line points to the authority that decides it.

Check Where to confirm Why it matters
Does it transmit or receive radio signals? TDRA approved equipment list Radio and telecom equipment must be registered before sale
Is it on the regulated product list? MoIAT "CAD Regulated Sheet" A conformity certificate is issued only for regulated products
Who gives the warranty? noon warranty policy One year is required for electronics, electrical appliances and machinery in the UAE
Is the category gated? Seller Central Amazon may require approval before you can list
Is it new, renewed or used? Marketplace condition rules Renewed and used items follow separate rules

If a supplier cannot show a TDRA registration number or a MoIAT certificate when one applies, treat that as a stop sign. TDRA says only a registered supplier can apply for type approval. That means a brand's overseas approval does not automatically cover you as a UAE importer or reseller. Ask in writing who holds the approval and whether you can rely on it, and keep the answer with your purchase order. Keep email replies and certificates together. A written answer from the authority or the approval holder is worth more than a verbal assurance from a distributor. See Amazon.ae category approval for gated categories.

What do marketplaces charge for electronics?

Amazon.ae's referral rates for electronics vary widely by sub-category:

Amazon.ae category Referral fee Minimum
Consumer Electronics 7% AED 1
Mobile Phones 5% AED 1
Electronics Accessories 15% up to AED 250, 8% on the portion above AED 1
Video Games 15% AED 1
Video Game Consoles 6% AED 1

All fees exclude VAT. For example, a AED 100 phone case pays 15% = AED 15, while a AED 1,000 consumer electronics item pays 7% = AED 70, before fulfilment and ads. Amazon also lists additional storage fees for dangerous goods, and batteries may be affected; check the product in Seller Central. Full tables are in Amazon.ae referral fees by category.

What do you pay to import electronics?

Dubai Customs publishes 5% of CIF value as the standard duty rate, and the UAE VAT rate is 5%. VAT on imports is calculated on the goods value including any customs duty. For example, goods with a CIF value of AED 10,000 would carry AED 500 duty and AED 525 VAT (5% of AED 10,500), using the published rates and an illustrative value. The HS code decides your actual rate, so use the customs duty guide and your broker.

Check this first. This page is general information, not legal or regulatory advice. Confirm approvals with TDRA and MoIAT, and duty with Dubai Customs.

FAQ

Do I need TDRA approval to sell a smart watch or earbuds? Possibly. TDRA says radio and telecom equipment must be registered before it can be sold. Devices that transmit or receive radio signals are the ones to check, and TDRA's approved equipment list lets you search by model.

How much does TDRA type approval cost? TDRA's service page lists a AED 500 transaction review fee and a AED 200 certificate issuance fee. A supplier registration fee applies to the company too, under a 2022 policy detailed in our TDRA guide.

Is a MoIAT conformity certificate mandatory for all electronics? MoIAT issues it for products subject to technical regulations. Which electronics are on the list we could not read, so confirm it per product.

What warranty must I give on noon? noon's UAE policy requires one year for electronics, electrical appliances and machinery. Accessories may vary by brand policy. You stay responsible for service in the cases noon names.

How much are Amazon.ae referral fees for electronics? They are 7% for Consumer Electronics, 5% for Mobile Phones and tiered for Accessories, with a AED 1 minimum. Fees exclude VAT.

Can I import electronics for personal use without approval? TDRA says importing for non-commercial or personal use is exempt from type approval, but that does not waive mandatory technical standards. Stock you sell is commercial, so the exemption does not help a seller.

Do I have to pay VAT and duty on imported electronics? Yes, the standard duty rate is 5% of CIF and VAT is 5%. HS codes and trade agreements can change the duty.

Next step

Build the approvals sheet first, because it decides which models you can safely order.

List the approvals for each model in one sheet (TDRA number, MoIAT certificate, warranty type) before you create listings. When you are ready to scale, Blooprint manages Amazon.ae and noon accounts, catalogue and advertising; see Amazon.ae account management.
