Tajer is the Abu Dhabi Trader license. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) says it is "issued electronically for specific commercial activities to UAE citizens and residents". On TAMM, the Abu Dhabi government service portal, the listed fees are AED 790, AED 10 and AED 315, the license is valid for 3 years, and the issuance fee itself is stated as varying, so the full cost is not published. As of October 2026, we could not confirm from ADDED or TAMM that e-commerce is on the approved activity list, so check that first.

Check this first. This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm the activity, fees and eligibility with ADDED (+971 800555, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm) or on TAMM before you apply.
What is the Tajer license and is it an e-commerce license?
Tajer is a license type, not an activity. It lets an individual run specific commercial activities without a physical establishment. The online selling you do on your own website, Instagram or marketplaces is an activity that must be allowed under that license.
TAMM describes the service as a license to run specific commercial activities without an official establishment site. The ADDED licensing page lists the Abu Dhabi Trader license next to a Freelancer license and a Virtual license, and it does not mention e-commerce by name. Many consultancy pages call Tajer "the Abu Dhabi e-commerce license". Treat that as a label, not a guarantee.
The wider legal point does not change. The UAE government portal says that to sell online you must obtain the required licenses and approvals from the relevant authority. So you need a license whose activity covers online retail, whichever type it is. The underlying law is Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2023 on modern technology-based trade, which also requires a digital trader to make its license details, address, contact numbers and website available to the public. For the national picture see what license you need to sell online in the UAE.
Who can apply for a Tajer license in Abu Dhabi?
ADDED says the Abu Dhabi Trader license goes to UAE citizens and residents. In practice that means:
- You need a valid UAE residence, because the application is made with a UAE PASS login.
- If you live outside the UAE, the Tajer license is not the route. ADDED lists a separate Virtual license for individuals living outside the country.
- Older articles describe a UAE-national-only phase of the programme and ownership conditions for expatriates. We could not find those conditions on the current ADDED or TAMM pages, so do not rely on them. Ask ADDED whether any local-partner or service-agent condition applies to your nationality and activity.
If you are an expat in Dubai or Sharjah, this page is not for you. Start with the UAE e-commerce license cost guide.
How much does a Tajer license cost on TAMM?
TAMM lists three fees for the Tajer service, as of October 2026.
| Item | Fee |
|---|---|
| Organizational entities fee | AED 790 |
| Registration in the Economic Register | AED 10 |
| Establishment card request (federal identity authority) | AED 315 |
| Sum of the three listed fees | AED 1,115 |
The AED 1,115 total is our addition of the three lines, and it is not the full price: TAMM says the fee for the license issuance itself varies, and it does not state that amount. TAMM states a validity of 3 years. It also says the service needs no documents at application and lists a processing time of 10 working days.
What is not published on those pages: the license issuance fee itself, fees for additional activities, any charge from other entities whose approval your product needs, and the renewal fee after year three. Ask for these in writing. Do not budget for a figure we cannot source.
Compare this with free zone prices, such as the Meydan Free Zone license or the RAKEZ e-commerce license. Those packages bundle a flexi-desk and sometimes a visa, so the lines are not like for like.
How do you apply for the Tajer license step by step?
TAMM lists this sequence:
- Log in to TAMM with UAE PASS.
- Choose the Tajer (Abu Dhabi Trader) economic license service and select your activity.
- Submit the application and pay the listed fees.
- Obtain approvals from other entities if your activity or product needs them. TAMM treats this as part of the process.
- Receive the license, with a standard Memorandum of Association included.
Before step 2, write down the exact activity you want and ask ADDED to confirm in writing that it covers selling online on your own site, on social media and on marketplaces. That one email avoids the most common problem: a license that does not match what you list.
Which approvals might your products need?
A license for retail does not remove product rules. The UAE government portal says online sellers must obtain approvals for any regulated or restricted products. Cosmetics, food, supplements, electronics and children's products are typical examples. The approving body depends on the product, so check with the relevant authority before you buy stock.
What happens when it expires?
TAMM lists a 3-year validity for the Tajer license. ADDED lists "Renewing an Economic Licence" as a service but states no deadline or late fee on the page we read. Put your expiry date in your calendar, set a reminder at least 60 days earlier and read our guide on trade license renewal for e-commerce sellers, because a lapsed license is a common reason a marketplace seller account is questioned.
Will Amazon.ae and noon accept a Tajer license?
Neither platform publishes, in the pages we reviewed, a list of accepted license types by emirate. Both ask for a valid UAE trade license during registration, and the activity on it should match what you sell. Upload the license exactly as issued by TAMM and check the legal name matches your bank account and Emirates ID. See the Amazon.ae individual seller account guide and noon seller account guide for the documents each asks for.
FAQ
Is Tajer the same as an e-commerce license in Abu Dhabi? Not exactly. Tajer is the Abu Dhabi Trader license type. Whether online retail is an approved activity under it is something ADDED or TAMM must confirm for your case. The pages we could read do not name e-commerce.
How much is the Tajer license? TAMM lists AED 790, AED 10 and AED 315, which add up to AED 1,115, as of October 2026. TAMM also says the license issuance fee itself varies and does not state it, so AED 1,115 is not the full cost. Ask ADDED for the total in writing.
How long is a Tajer license valid? TAMM lists a validity of 3 years. The renewal fee and the late-renewal penalty are not stated on the ADDED page we read, so ask before the expiry date.
Can an expat get a Tajer license? ADDED says the license is for UAE citizens and residents. If you hold a UAE residence, you can start the TAMM application with UAE PASS. Confirm any ownership or agent condition with ADDED, because older articles describe conditions we could not find on current pages.
Do I need an office for a Tajer license? TAMM describes the license as running specific activities without an official establishment site. You still need an address for deliveries and for the license data you must publish online under federal law.
How long does the Tajer application take? TAMM lists 10 working days for processing as of October 2026. Approvals that your product needs from other entities are handled separately and can add time, so start those early.
Can I sell on Amazon.ae and noon with it? Both platforms ask for a valid UAE trade license. Check that the activity on your license matches your products before you register.
Should I pick a free zone instead? A free zone can bundle a desk and visa and may include marketplace onboarding. A free zone license has its own rules for selling into the mainland, covered in free zone vs mainland.
