A UAE trade license must be renewed before it expires, and each authority sets its own fee and late-fine rules. Meydan Free Zone, for example, gives a 30-day grace period and then "a AED 200 fine applies for every month of delay". Ajman DED lists AED 600 for economic license renewal. For Dubai mainland, we could not open the Dubai Economy and Tourism (DET) renewal page in October 2026, and third-party guides quote different monthly fines, so no DET figure is stated here. As of October 2026, no single UAE-wide fee exists.

Trade License Renewal in the UAE for E-commerce Sellers: Costs, Deadlines, Late Fines and Steps
By Blooprint team ยท Published 10 October 2026 ยท 6 min read
Key takeaways
- We could not open Dubai DET's own renewal page in October 2026, and guides quote different monthly fines, so no Dubai mainland late fine is confirmed here; ask DET.
- Meydan Free Zone says licenses last 12 months, allows a 30-day grace period, and applies AED 200 for every month of delay, with the renewal fee depending on activity.
- Ajman DED lists AED 600 for economic license renewal plus AED 50 for the application, and a monthly penalty after one month from expiry whose amount it does not state.
- Renewal is usually online and quick, but a valid lease and any external approvals must be in place first, and a lapsed license can put your Amazon.ae or noon account at risk.

Check this first. Fines and fees differ by emirate and free zone and change over time. This is general information, not legal advice. Check your own license authority's current page before paying.
How much does it cost to renew a trade license in Dubai?
Dubai does not publish one renewal price, because the fee is based on the business activity and license type. Meydan Free Zone, for example, says fees are "typically based on the business activity and license type" and does not quote a renewal figure. We could not open a DET page that lists a renewal fee for e-commerce activities.
What you can plan for:
- Your license fee. Ask your authority or free zone for the year-two fee in writing. If you did not get it at set-up, you were not given the full cost.
- Lease costs. On the mainland a lease is usually part of renewal. Ajman DED lists certification of the lease contract as the first renewal step. Ask DET what it needs for a Dubai mainland renewal.
- Visa and immigration costs. These are separate from the license fee. See the UAE e-commerce license cost guide.
- Approvals. If your products need an external approval, renew it too.
What happens if you renew a trade license late?
The rules differ, so here are the published ones.
| Authority | Deadline stated | Late consequence stated |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai DET (mainland) | Not confirmed; DET's page did not open for us in October 2026 | Not confirmed; guides quote different monthly amounts, so ask DET |
| Meydan Free Zone | 12-month license, 30-day grace period | "a AED 200 fine applies for every month of delay" |
| Ajman DED | Penalty listed for not renewing within "one month from the license expiration date" | Penalty each month, part of a month counts as a full month, amount not stated |
| RAKEZ | Not stated on the renewals page | Not stated; RAKEZ points to checklists and Portal 360 |
| Abu Dhabi (Tajer) | Not stated; license listed as valid 3 years | Not stated |
Meydan's guide adds that long delays can lead to license cancellation or blacklisting. For Dubai mainland, ask DET what fine applies on the day you pay.
How do you renew a trade license step by step?
The Meydan process, which is typical of a free zone portal:
- Check your expiry date in the customer dashboard.
- Confirm the lease is valid, if your license needs one.
- Review activities and company details, and add activities or visas if needed.
- Submit the renewal online.
- Pay online.
- Receive the renewed license, which Meydan says is usually ready in under an hour.
On the mainland the steps are similar. In Ajman they are: certify the lease, provide any external approvals and pay fees online. Ajman describes the e-service as taking about 10 minutes. In Dubai mainland you renew through DET; ask DET for its current steps and any outstanding fines before you start.
What documents do you need to renew?
| Document | Mainland | Free zone |
|---|---|---|
| Valid lease or Ejari | Usually required | Often handled by the zone |
| Trade license copy | Required | Auto-filled in the dashboard |
| Passport and Emirates ID | If details change | Only for updates |
| External approvals | Case by case | Prompted if they apply |
This table is based on Meydan's renewal guide, which is a free zone's own description. The Meydan page says no Ejari is needed for its free zone licenses but also says it may ask for attested lease agreements, so ask the zone which applies to you. RAKEZ publishes separate renewal checklists for free zone and non-free zone companies.
Why does renewal matter for an Amazon.ae or noon seller?
Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2023 requires a digital trader to make its license details, address and contact numbers available to the public, and the UAE portal says online sellers must hold the licenses required by the relevant authority. A lapsed license makes that statement untrue. Marketplaces also review seller documents from time to time. Neither platform's page we reviewed gives a fixed time limit for updating an expired license, so do not wait to find out. Renew first, then upload the new license to your seller account. Read the noon seller account guide and the Amazon.ae individual seller account guide for the document steps.
What does a worked renewal example look like?
Illustrative, built only from published figures: a seller's Meydan Free Zone license expires on 1 November 2026. They renew on 20 December 2026, which is 49 days late and past Meydan's 30-day grace period. Meydan states AED 200 for every month of delay but does not say whether months count from expiry or from the end of the grace period, so the fine would be AED 200 or AED 400 on top of the renewal fee. Under Ajman's rule that part of a month counts as a full month, the penalty would also be counted in whole months, but Ajman does not state the amount. Renewing on time costs the fee only. The point is not the amount but the account risk.
How do you avoid a missed renewal?
- Put the expiry date in two calendars and set a reminder 60 days before it.
- Keep the lease, approvals and visa dates in one sheet, because they often expire on different days.
- Check for outstanding fines with your authority before you renew.
- Check the license activity still matches your product range. If you added product lines, add the activity at renewal.
- If you are in a free zone, check the three-year option where offered. RAKEZ says free zone e-commerce licenses can be issued and renewed for three years at discounted rates.
Per-zone details are in the Meydan guide, the RAKEZ guide, the Ajman guide and the Abu Dhabi Tajer guide.
FAQ
How much is the late fine for a trade license in Dubai? It depends on the authority. Meydan Free Zone states AED 200 for every month of delay after a 30-day grace period. For Dubai mainland we could not confirm the amount on DET's own page in October 2026, and guides quote different figures, so ask DET.
Is there a grace period for renewing a UAE trade license? It depends on the authority. Meydan states 30 days. Ajman DED lists a penalty for not renewing within one month of expiry. We could not confirm a DET grace period, so assume the fine can start at expiry.
How long does renewal take? Meydan says a renewed license is usually ready in under an hour. Ajman DED describes its e-service as taking about 10 minutes. External approvals can add time.
Can I renew an expired license? Meydan and Ajman describe late renewal with monthly penalties, so renewal after expiry is possible there. Meydan warns that long delays can lead to cancellation. Ask your own authority how long you have before it acts.
What do I need to renew a mainland license in Dubai? Expect to need a valid lease and any external approvals your activity needs, as Ajman DED lists for its own renewals. We could not open DET's renewal page in October 2026, so ask DET for its current list and any fines first.
Does my Amazon.ae or noon account stop if my license expires? We could not find a published rule that says so. The legal duty to hold a valid license still applies, and an expired license can fail a document check. Renew first and update the account.
Do free zone licenses renew the same way? Usually online through the zone's portal, and the fee depends on the zone and activity. Ask for the year-two fee in writing.
