Key takeaways

  • noon FBN customers can return items in returnable categories within 15 days of delivery, and noon's FBP policy says customers can request a return within 14 days of receiving the order.
  • noon's seller protection pays 0% for resaleable returns, 5% for dead-on-arrival or manufacturing defects and 15% for a missing accessory plus a dented box, net of fees.
  • We found no official UAE day count for returning a non-defective online purchase; the portal confirms free repair or replacement of defective goods and fines up to AED 2 million.
  • A returned parcel is a cost line: freight, inspection, and restocking or write-off, so build it into your pricing before you set your return window.

On noon FBN, customers can return items in returnable categories within 15 days of delivery, while noon's FBP policy says customers can request a return within 14 days of receiving their order. For your own UAE store we found no official day count for returning a non-defective item. What the UAE government portal does confirm is that suppliers must repair or replace defective products free of charge, with penalties of up to two years in prison and AED 2 million. This page covers the operational side: what the marketplaces do, how to write your own policy, and what a return costs. The legal side is in consumer protection and online returns in the UAE.

What are the return windows on noon and Amazon.ae?

Channel Return window Source
noon FBN Return request within 15 days from delivery, returnable categories only
noon FBP Customer can request a return within 14 days of receiving the order
Amazon.ae FBA Amazon says it handles customer inquiries, refunds and returns for FBA orders; the FBA page states no day count

We could not open Amazon.ae's customer returns help pages, which returned a service error, so we do not quote an Amazon.ae window. Check the return policy in your Seller Central account for the exact days and categories. For noon's seller view, see noon returns policy for sellers and noon FBN vs FBP.

What happens to a returned item on noon FBN?

noon's FBN guide says all customer-returned units are received in the warehouse they were originally shipped from. By default the units go to noon Express: once they pass quality check they move to your FBN inventory and go live again. You can instead ask for the units back, by a manual return-to-vendor request or an automatic return based on your preferences. Units that fail QC because the customer damaged them or parts are missing go back to the warehouse, and you can create a return request for that unsaleable stock. Compensation follows noon's grading policy.

The guide does not list which categories are non-returnable, so check your category rules in Seller Lab.

How does noon's seller protection grade a return?

noon's returns and seller protection policy compensates sellers for certain damaged returns, using grades:

Grade Condition Payout
A Saleable and put back in stock or returned to vendor 0%
B Dead on arrival (smart devices) or manufacturing defect 5%
C Accessory missing plus box with dents 15%

Payouts are net of referral fees and other applicable noon fees. Grading of damaged returns takes up to seven business days, and manufacturing defects must appear within fifteen business days. The policy does not state a dispute deadline; disputes go through Seller Lab. It also does not say who pays return shipping. Direct Ship returns through the AFS warehouse no longer get grading payouts from 1 December 2024, though sellers can still dispute them in Seller Lab.

Check this first. The FBP policy has its own clocks: contact the customer within 48 hours, issue a returnless refund within 48 hours or let noon pick up the item, and raise a dispute within 7 days of receiving the item or lose reimbursement.

What must your own store's return policy cover?

For an own-store seller, the law sets floors and you set the rest. What the UAE government portal confirms:

  • You must repair or replace a defective product free of charge.
  • Contract clauses that exempt you from your legal obligations are void.
  • As an e-commerce business, you must give consumers information in Arabic about the product or service, its specifications, and the terms of contract, payment and warranty.
  • You must issue a dated invoice, and it must be in Arabic.

What it does not confirm: a fixed number of days to return a non-defective item, who pays return freight, or a refund deadline. Your policy should state each of these for your own business. A sound structure:

  1. Window. Choose a number of days from delivery. Match or beat noon's 15 days if you compete on noon.
  2. Condition. Unused, in original packaging, with accessories.
  3. Exclusions. Items you cannot resell for hygiene or safety reasons. State them before purchase.
  4. Defects. Free repair or replacement, as the portal requires. A refund on top of that is your choice; state it.
  5. Who pays freight. Say it in the policy, and show it at checkout.
  6. Refund method and time. Original payment method, and the number of days you commit to after receipt.
  7. How to start. One link or WhatsApp number, with the order number and photos.

Write it in Arabic and English. This is general information, not legal advice; confirm with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism or a UAE lawyer.

What does a return cost you?

A return is more than the refund. The cost lines:

Line Notes
Return freight Pickup or drop-off, depending on your courier terms
Receiving and inspection Staff time or 3PL fee; see 3PL in Dubai
Restocking Repack, relabel, re-shelve
Write-off Items that cannot be resold
Lost sale The original outbound freight and any marketplace fees you are not refunded
Refund timing Cash tied up until reversal

Illustrative example with assumed inputs: an order of AED 200, outbound freight AED 15, return freight AED 15, inspection and restocking AED 5, and 15% of returned items written off. The expected loss per return is AED 15 outbound (not recovered) + AED 15 return + AED 5 handling + 15% x AED 200 write-off = AED 65. At a 10% return rate over 1,000 orders, that is 100 returns and AED 6,500. Replace each input with your own numbers.

Does VAT change when goods are returned?

For a UAE customer buying from a UAE seller, a return normally means correcting the original sale. The details of credit notes and invoice content are in tax invoice requirements for UAE e-commerce. One specific FTA point: if goods were sold and exported from the UAE and later come back to the supplier, the FTA's e-commerce guide says the import VAT exemption for returned goods covers import VAT only, and not VAT that may have been charged on the original sale. This is general information, not tax advice; confirm with the Federal Tax Authority or a tax agent.

How do you reduce returns?

  • Fix the listing. Accurate sizes, photos and specifications reduce "not as described" returns. See catalogue and listing optimization.
  • Check packaging. Damage in transit shows as a return and a seller-protection claim.
  • Use courier confirmation. Failed deliveries are a different problem: see failed delivery and RTO.
  • Review COD orders. Refused COD parcels behave like returns. See cash on delivery for UAE sellers.
  • Track return reasons by SKU. A few SKUs usually cause most of the returns.

FAQ

How many days do customers have to return an online purchase in the UAE? We found no official day count for a non-defective item on the government consumer portal. noon uses 15 days from delivery for FBN and 14 days from receipt for FBP. On your own store you set the window in your policy, and defective goods must be repaired or replaced free of charge.

Who pays return shipping on noon? noon's returns and seller protection policy does not say who pays return shipping. The FBP policy says noon facilitates the logistics of returning the item, but also does not name who pays. Check the programme terms for your account and the fees in Seller Lab.

Do I have to deal with defective goods free of charge? Yes. The UAE government portal says suppliers who fail to repair or replace a defective product without charge face imprisonment of up to two years and a fine not exceeding AED 2 million. A policy clause that exempts you from this obligation is void under the same portal text.

What happens to returned stock on noon FBN? Units go to the warehouse they shipped from, and by default move back to your FBN inventory after passing QC. Failed-QC units can be requested back. Compensation follows noon's grading policy.

Does Amazon.ae handle FBA returns for me? Amazon says it provides customer service for FBA products and manages customer inquiries, refunds and returns for FBA orders. The exact return window and reimbursement rules are in your Seller Central policy pages.

Should I offer free returns? It is a commercial choice. Free returns can lift conversion but raise cost per order. Model it with your own return rate and freight cost as in the example above, and test it on one product group first.

What to do next

Write your return policy in Arabic and English, set your own return window and who pays freight, and track return reasons by SKU for one month. If you sell on Amazon.ae and noon, Blooprint can run your Amazon.ae account management and improve the catalogue and listing optimization that cuts avoidable returns.
