Almost everything written about noon returns is written for buyers. The seller side is a different document set entirely: a returns and seller protection policy, separate FBN and Directship handling policies, a disputes and claims policy, a returnless refund mechanism, an automated reimbursement process and a returns reduction dashboard. Together they decide how much of a returned order you get back, and almost all of it turns on deadlines you either meet or lose.

Noon Returns for Sellers (2026): The Policy, the Fees, the Grading Table and the Dispute Windows
By Blooprint team · Published 27 September 2026 · 9 min read
Key takeaways
- A seller-controllable return on noon costs the referral fee plus a return administration fee of the lesser of 15 AED or 20% of the referral fee, or 15 SAR in KSA.
- noon grades every returned unit and pays from a Seller Protection Fund: 0% on a saleable Grade A, 15% on Grade C, and 100% where the loss was logistics damage.
- Dispute windows are short and absolute: seven days for Directship returns and fourteen for RTV and item-graded shipments, with one re-appeal and no exceptions.
- Cross-border GCC orders can only be refunded, never replaced, so a replacement-heavy category is riskier on that lane than it is on a domestic UAE sale.

Everything below is from noon's own seller help centre, read on 27 September 2026, and applies to a UAE or KSA-based seller and to an Indian brand on the cross-border route, with the differences called out. For what a return costs against a clean order, read this alongside is selling on noon profitable.
How long does a noon customer have to return?
noon's returns and seller protection policy covers any return request that "does not exceed fifteen (15) days from the date of delivery", and its FBN article repeats fifteen days.
noon's own articles disagree, as of September 2026. The FBP handling policy says "customers can request returns within 14 days of receiving their order", while the umbrella policy and the FBN article both say fifteen days. noon does not reconcile the two anywhere we could find. Plan operationally for fifteen days, which is the wider window, and confirm with seller support before you write a return window into your own terms.
What happens to a unit when it comes back?
Every returned unit goes through a physical quality check and receives a grade, and the grade decides what noon pays you from its Seller Protection Fund. The default grading table:
| Grade | Condition | Payout |
|---|---|---|
| A | Saleable, put back into stock or returned to vendor | 0% |
| B | Dead on arrival for smart devices, or a manufacturing defect | 5% |
| C | Accessory missing, box dented | 15% |
| D | Accessory missing, product dented | 20% |
| X | Logistics damage, or product lost during return logistics | 100% |
| NG | Non-branded or generic product | 0% — not eligible for grading payouts |
| UI | Unidentified | 0% |
| DS | Directship returns | 0% |
Grade A paying nothing is correct and not a loophole: the unit is back in your saleable stock. Grade X paying in full is noon absorbing its own logistics damage. Two lines are worth pausing on. Generic, unbranded items get grade NG and no payout at all, because noon says grading is designed for "authenticated, verifiable branded products" — a direct argument for brand registration if your catalogue is currently unbranded. And Directship returns processed through the AFS warehouse have had no grading support payout since 1 December 2024, though noon says you may still dispute the condition of what you received.
If you dispute a grade, a longer ladder applies, running A at 0% through E at 25%, H at 50%, N at 80% and up to X at 100%. noon states that for any item "Beyond Economic Repair" it will pay a maximum of Grade N for item-grading disputes and 80% for other dispute categories. All payouts are net of referral fees and any other applicable noon fees.
Which returns does noon refuse to compensate?
noon lists explicit exceptions to seller protection, and they are all cases where the fault sits with the seller: mis-shipment or an item incorrectly detailed; missing parts, freebies or accessories; fake, defective, used or expired product shipped; a manufacturing defect or dead-on-arrival failure within fifteen business days; an intact product returned in perfect condition; and seller fraud, where noon says the claim amount is put on hold. It also disclaims liability for war, civil unrest, strikes, customs detention or confiscation, and ordinary wear, moth, vermin or mildew.
What does a return actually cost you?
| Charge | When it applies | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Lost referral fee | Every refunded order | The full category rate on that sale |
| Return administration fee | Returns for seller-controllable reasons | The lesser of 15 AED or 20% of the referral fee for that item, and 15 SAR in KSA, in force since 1 October 2024 |
| FBP order cancellation fee | Orders you reject or fail to hand over | Matches the FBP referral fee for the category; where the category has ASP tiers, the highest tier applies |
| Non-saleable storage | Failed-QC stock aging past 30 days in a noon warehouse | 12 AED per cubic foot |
| Retention penalty and miscellaneous fees | Counterfeit, damaged, expired or mis-described goods | Not published as a rate |
Worked example. A 149 AED fashion order at a 27% referral fee earns noon 40.23 AED. If it comes back as a seller-controllable return, you lose that referral fee, and the administration fee is the lesser of 15 AED and 20% of 40.23, so 8.05 AED plus 5% VAT, about 8.45 AED. The same order in KSA at 149 SAR: 20% of 40.23 is 8.05 SAR, plus 15% VAT, about 9.26 SAR. At an illustrative Rs 23.50 per AED and Rs 23 per SAR that is roughly Rs 199 and Rs 213 — small on its own, brutal at a 12% return rate across a season. For an Indian seller shipping cross-border, add the freight and import duty you already spent on the unit, because those are not refunded when a customer changes their mind.
What do you have to do, and by when?
For Directship and FBP, noon publishes four deadlines and states the consequence of missing each:
| Action | Deadline | If you miss it |
|---|---|---|
| Reply to a customer message | 24 hours | noon may disable your ability to contact customers |
| Contact the customer, or request pickup | Within 48 hours of the return request | Same — noon monitors whether you use the option at all |
| Issue a returnless refund | Within 48 hours of the return request | noon collects the item and returns it to you instead |
| Raise a dispute | Within 7 days of receiving the item | You are not eligible for reimbursement |
Two mechanics matter here. Contacting the customer does not stop the return: noon says it only delays the pickup request by two days, and the only way a return is cancelled is if the customer cancels it. And if you take no action in the first 48 hours, noon authorises the pickup itself and delivers the unit straight to you, bypassing its warehouse.
Returnless refunds let you refund the customer, in full or in part, and let them keep the item. You have a 48-hour window, a partial refund needs the customer's consent through the messaging service, and once issued you cannot request the item back and the case is not eligible for a dispute claim. It is the right tool for a low-value unit whose return freight exceeds its salvage value, and the wrong tool for anything you might have wanted to inspect.
How do noon disputes work, and how long do you have?
noon calls these Partner Disputes and runs four types with different windows:
| Dispute type | Window from delivery | Grounds noon accepts |
|---|---|---|
| Directship NDR (non-deliverable return) | 7 calendar days | Damaged shipment, wrong item — but only if you marked it "Damaged" at the moment of receiving |
| Directship CIR (customer-initiated return) | 7 days | Damaged return, wrong item returned, locked electronic device, empty box, lost return shipment |
| RTV shipment | 14 days | Shipment not received or confiscated, items or parts missing, damaged, wrong, or mixed reasons |
| Item graded | 14 days | Missing parts, broken seal, physical damage, empty box, locked unit, wrong item, or shown delivered but not received |
The Directship NDR window was cut from fourteen calendar days to seven with effect from 15 May 2025, and the requirement to mark a shipment "Damaged" at receipt is absolute — noon says the system will not let you raise a dispute later even inside the seven days. Disputes cannot be filed in bulk, image uploads are capped at 5 MB, and resolution typically takes up to fifteen business days. You may re-appeal once, within seven days of the resolution email, and noon calls that decision final and binding. noon also says plainly that it will not grant exceptions for a missed window.
Put the deadlines in a rota, not a memory. The commonest reason a noon claim fails is not weak evidence, it is a date. Seven days is one long weekend and one sick colleague. Since 12 June 2026 noon also enforces Seller Lab roles strictly, so check the person who files your disputes still has the permission to do it.
What does noon reimburse without a dispute?
Some losses are reconciled automatically each month, starting in the second week. noon reimburses warehouse-damaged inventory once it has been liquidated, warehouse lost or found inventory after a three-month buffer to locate it (an item lost in month one is reimbursed in month five if still missing), and inventory lost during RTV transport. Lost RTVs specifically cannot be disputed because they are reconciled and paid monthly instead. These appear on your statement under the fee group "Stock Reconciliation Payment". If you disagree with the amount, that dispute must be raised within 30 days of statement generation, and you cannot raise two disputes for the same barcode and reconciliation type in the same recon month.
How do you get the return rate down?
Reducing returns is the highest-return work on a noon account and the reason it sits near the top of our noon account management checklist. noon's Return Reduction Dashboard, under Account Health and Report, reports your seller-controllable return rate over 90 days, the monetary value of it, the return reasons and a per-SKU classification of fair, poor or very poor. noon describes very poor as excessive rates "requiring immediate action or risking delisting". Its six seller-controllable causes are bad fulfilment, wrong fulfilment, fake returns, used or pre-activated items, empty box and expired product — and every one of them is a catalogue or packing problem rather than a customer problem. Accurate content is the cheapest returns lever you have; see noon listing rejections for the content rules that also protect you here.
Two model-specific notes. Under FBN the default is that returned units that pass QC move back into your noon Express inventory automatically, and noon recommends leaving it that way for lower fees and faster delivery promises; to get units back instead you must raise an RTV request or set a return preference, because a blank or "dispose" preference means returns never reach you. Under Directship, non-delivery returns go automatically to your registered address with no request needed. Which model suits you is covered in noon FBN vs FBP.
Finally, for the GCC cross-border lane, noon is explicit: "cross-border orders are only eligible for returns and refunds. Replacements are not supported." If your category normally resolves complaints by sending a second unit, that option does not exist there.
Running returns as a process
Returns on noon reward administration more than negotiation. The grading table is fixed, the fee is fixed, and the only variables you control are how fast you mark, file and evidence. If you want someone to run the daily return dashboard, mark damaged shipments at receipt, file within seven days and reconcile every payout against the weekly statement, that is part of our noon account management service. We do the same job on Amazon and Flipkart for Indian brands, so the return economics get compared across markets rather than in isolation.
FAQ
What is noon's return window for sellers? noon's seller protection policy and its FBN article both say fifteen days from delivery; its FBP article says fourteen. Plan for fifteen days and confirm with seller support before publishing your own window.
How much is the noon return administration fee? The lesser of 15 AED or 20% of the referral fee for the returned item, and 15 SAR in KSA, charged only for seller-controllable return reasons. It has applied since 1 October 2024.
Will noon compensate me for a damaged return? It depends on the grade. Logistics damage is graded X and paid at 100%; a saleable unit is grade A and paid nothing; unbranded items are graded NG and are not eligible for grading payouts at all.
How long do I have to dispute a noon return? Seven calendar days from delivery for Directship NDR and CIR disputes, and fourteen days for RTV shipment and item-graded disputes. noon says it grants no exceptions for a missed window.
Should I use a returnless refund? Use it where return freight costs more than the unit is worth. Remember it must be issued within 48 hours, a partial refund needs customer consent, and once issued the case cannot be disputed.
Can a GCC cross-border customer get a replacement? No. noon says cross-border orders are eligible for returns and refunds only, because of international transit constraints.
