A grocery or household brand choosing between JioMart, Amazon.in and Flipkart is choosing between three fee structures that look alike and three audiences that do not. All three charge a commission by category, a flat fee per order, shipping by weight and zone, and 18% GST, and all three are open marketplaces you can join with a GSTIN and a bank account. JioMart's commissions are the lowest of the three for grocery, staples and kitchen, Amazon's are published in full and often 0% up to Rs 1,000, and Flipkart's are 0% under Rs 1,000 with the rest in your dashboard. As of September 2026 this guide compares the three for grocery, staples, packaged food and household sellers, using our JioMart, Amazon and Flipkart fee guides, and ends with a verdict by seller type. Which is cheapest for grocery sellers?
Below Rs 1,000, the commission lines are close to zero on all three: Amazon's 0% lines, Flipkart's 0% under Rs 1,000, and JioMart's 2% to 6% by band. That makes the flat fees and shipping the deciding lines, and here JioMart's reported Rs 10 to Rs 50 fixed fee sits alongside Amazon's published closing fees and Flipkart's tier-based fixed fee. Where JioMart pulls ahead is above Rs 1,000 in non-fashion categories: its commission stays in single digits by the agency tables, while Flipkart's category rate applies and Amazon's jumps (home decor 17%, for example). Where it falls behind is on a single small pack, because a Rs 10 to Rs 50 fixed fee plus Rs 30 to Rs 60 shipping is a large share of a Rs 149 item, exactly as Amazon's Rs 27 closing fee plus Rs 39 weight handling is.
| Rs 599 kitchen tool, 450 g, regional, prepaid, delivered (worked examples and assumptions from our fee guides) | Fees incl. GST | Payout |
|---|---|---|
| JioMart: 5% commission (assumed band), Rs 20 fixed fee, 0% collection, Rs 45 shipping, 18% GST, 0.6% TCS and TDS | Rs 115.63 (19%) | Rs 483.37 |
| Amazon FBA: 0% referral (many home lines up to Rs 1,000), Rs 30 closing, Rs 39 regional weight handling, Rs 17 pick and pack, 18% GST | Rs 101.48 (17%) | Rs 497.52 |
| Amazon Easy Ship: 0% referral, Rs 48 closing, Rs 55 weight handling, 18% GST | Rs 121.54 (20%) | Rs 477.46 |
| Flipkart: 0% commission, assumed Rs 30 fixed fee (Bronze), free zonal shipping under 500 g, 18% GST | Rs 35.40 (6%) | Rs 563.60 |
Flipkart wins the light, zonal, prepaid case by a distance because of its free sub-500 g shipping; make the order national or COD and its unpublished shipping and collection fees close most of the gap. Amazon FBA and JioMart land within Rs 15 of each other, and Amazon's number is the only one built entirely from published tables. Push the price to Rs 1,299 and the picture changes: JioMart's commission stays around 6% (assumed), Flipkart's dashboard rate applies, and Amazon's home-decor line pays 17%. Run your SKUs through the Amazon fee calculator and Flipkart seller calculator and screenshot your JioMart Bill Plan for the third column.
Which has the grocery shopper?
JioMart's origin is grocery: it launched as Reliance Retail's online grocery arm and its traffic is grocery-led, which is the argument for listing staples, packaged food and household there even at similar fees. Amazon publishes the biggest reach numbers, 300 million-plus annual visitors and 99.3% pincode coverage, and its Prime and Subscribe and Save shoppers buy multipacks and bulk; Flipkart publishes no reach figures on its seller pages and its grocery business is smaller than its fashion and electronics core. In practice a grocery brand sells single and small packs on JioMart, multipacks and bulk on Amazon, and value household on Flipkart, and none of the three replaces quick commerce for impulse packs in metros.
How do fulfilment and shipping differ?
Amazon is the only one of the three with a published fulfilment menu: FBA with the Prime badge, Easy Ship where you pack and Amazon delivers, and Self Ship. For grocery that matters because FBA's Rs 50 per cubic foot monthly storage and shelf-life rules suit fast movers and punish slow ones, and because heavy staples cross the 2 kg slab quickly (Rs 78 regional FBA, plus Rs 24 per extra kg). JioMart uses third-party logistics partners by weight and zone and lets you self-ship, which brands with an existing courier contract use to control cost; it has no FBA equivalent on its seller FAQ. Flipkart offers FBF at unpublished fees and free local and zonal shipping under 500 g, which is why it wins the light-item case above and loses on 5 kg atta.
How do ads and payouts compare?
All three sell CPC placements, and only agency data gives a price: Rs 6 to Rs 18 a click for grocery on Amazon and Rs 1 to Rs 10 on Flipkart; JioMart publishes nothing and the agency guides give no reliable range. On payouts, Flipkart publishes "as fast as 3 days" from pickup by tier, Amazon 7 days after delivery on a weekly cycle, and JioMart's agency-reported 9 days after delivery is between them. All three deduct TCS at 0.5% and TDS at 0.1% as recoverable credits; JioMart's FAQ lists them explicitly.
Verdict by seller type
| Seller type | Start on | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Staples and packaged food, Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 | JioMart and Amazon | JioMart's grocery audience at single-digit commission; Amazon's 0% lines and multipack demand |
| Kitchenware and household above Rs 1,000 | JioMart | Commission stays in single digits where Amazon's and Flipkart's category rates apply |
| Light household and kitchen under Rs 1,000 | Flipkart, with Shopsy on | 0% commission and free sub-500 g local and zonal shipping; watch national COD orders |
| Brand with a courier contract and its own warehouse | JioMart self-ship and Amazon Self Ship | Removes the platform shipping line on both; Amazon's Self Ship closing fee is higher but weight handling is nil |
| Bulk, 2 kg and up | Amazon Easy Ship or Self Ship, then JioMart | FBA storage and weight slabs bite on bulk; Flipkart's heavy-parcel fees are unpublished |
| Brand wanting one published rate card to plan on | Amazon | The only one of the three with referral, closing and shipping tables in public |
Most grocery brands we manage are on all three within a year, with the pack size and price tuned per platform: small packs on JioMart, multipacks on Amazon, value household on Flipkart. The reconciliation work is the same on all three, and JioMart's unpublished Bill Plan makes it the one to screenshot on day one.
FAQ
Is JioMart cheaper than Amazon and Flipkart for grocery? On commission, yes by the agency tables: 2% to 6% by band against Amazon's published category rates above Rs 1,000 and Flipkart's dashboard rates. Under Rs 1,000 all three are near zero on commission, so flat fees and shipping decide it, and Flipkart's free sub-500 g shipping wins the light-item case.
Does JioMart publish its commission? No. Its FAQ names commission, fixed, collection and shipping fees and sends you to Profile, then Bill Plan, in Seller Central for the numbers.
Which has an FBA-style service for grocery? Amazon (FBA, Rs 17 pick and pack, Rs 50 per cubic foot storage) and Flipkart (FBF, fees unpublished). JioMart's seller FAQ describes partner logistics and self-ship only.
Which pays fastest? Flipkart publishes "as fast as 3 days" from pickup by tier; Amazon pays 7 days after delivery; agency guides report JioMart at 9 days after delivery.
Do I need FSSAI on all three? Yes for any food or drink; a central licence if you sell across states. The licence number goes on the listing on all three.
Should a grocery brand skip these for Blinkit and Zepto? Not skip; sequence. Marketplaces prove demand and handle multipacks nationally; quick commerce takes impulse packs in metros at a negotiated margin. Our quick commerce vs marketplaces guide covers the split.
Getting grocery marketplaces right
JioMart, Amazon and Flipkart cost about the same on a mid-priced kitchen item and very different amounts on a single small pack or a bulk bag, and only Amazon lets you see the whole rate card before you list. If you want one team reading all three fee structures, setting pack sizes and prices per platform and reconciling every settlement, see our quick commerce account management service, which covers JioMart alongside Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart, working with our Amazon and Flipkart management. The audit on the quick commerce service page starts with your pack sizes, because that is what decides which of the three each SKU belongs on.
