A UAE seller cannot open a noon seller account in Bahrain, because noon's registration covers only the UAE, KSA and Egypt. You reach Bahraini customers through noon's GCC lane, which noon says is automatically enabled for active UAE sellers with eligible FBN or FBP DirectShip Express listings and an approved UAE VAT registration. Selling from your own store brings Bahrain's VAT and registration rules into play. This page covers both, as of October 2026.

How to Sell Online in Bahrain From the UAE in 2026: The noon Lane, 10% VAT, 5% Duty and Commercial Registration
By Blooprint team · Published 10 October 2026 · 6 min read
Key takeaways
- There is no noon Bahrain seller account: noon lists the UAE, KSA and Egypt as seller countries, and a UAE seller reaches Bahrain through the automatic GCC lane.
- Bahrain's standard VAT rate is 10% according to the US International Trade Administration's December 2025 guide, double the UAE's 5%.
- A 2021 Bahraini law requires businesses with an online sales presence to hold an approved commercial registration, and the ministry permits 100% foreign ownership for online sales.
- Duty is 5% on most goods under the GCC customs union, but the sources we could open do not say how VAT applies to a UAE business selling to Bahraini consumers outside noon.

Is there a noon Bahrain seller account?
No. noon names the UAE, KSA and Egypt as the countries where businesses can register to sell. noon's guide also describes an International Seller category for a business registered outside the country where it wants to sell. If you are a UAE company, you do not need to. The lane works from your UAE account, and the opt-out, fee and returns rules are on noon GCC cross-border lane. We do not repeat them here.
What does Bahrain charge on imported goods?
Bahrain belongs to the GCC customs union. The US International Trade Administration says that agreement eliminated tariffs between GCC states on 426 items, mainly food and medical products, and applies a 5 percent import duty to other commodities, with tobacco products at 100 percent and alcoholic beverages at 125 percent. Our GCC customs union guide explains why the UAE authority describes duty as collected once at the first point of entry, with the UAE source at https://icp.gov.ae/en/customs-union-for-gcc/.
The same US guide says importers or their local agents must complete a customs bill of entry before goods enter Bahrain, and that importers should strongly consider a registered, licensed clearing agent. That is a summary by a foreign government. For the live procedure, use Bahrain Customs.
What VAT applies when you sell to Bahrain?
The US guide says Bahrain introduced VAT in early 2019 together with other GCC states and that most goods and services are taxed at 10 percent, with no tax on categories such as basic foodstuffs, medications, healthcare, books and education. The guide's publication date is 1 December 2025. Use 10% as the headline rate, then confirm it with Bahrain's National Bureau for Revenue before you price, because we could not open the NBR's own pages from our tools.
What we could not verify from an official Bahraini page: whether a UAE business with no presence in Bahrain must register for Bahraini VAT when it sells to consumers there, and what the threshold is. Secondary tax guides say non-resident suppliers have no registration threshold and need a local representative. We have not confirmed that from the NBR, so we do not rely on it. Ask the NBR or a Bahrain tax adviser.
On noon's lane the picture is different: noon says you do not pay or claim import VAT in the destination countries because it covers destination VAT and customs duties. It also says the cross-border fee of 5% replaces the UAE VAT you would have remitted on an equivalent UAE sale. Your own VAT returns are covered in UAE VAT return filing for online sellers. This is general information, not tax advice. Confirm with the NBR or the Federal Tax Authority.
What is the difference between 10% and 5% in a price?
An illustrative example, using only the two sourced rates. A product sold at AED 100 before tax: 5% UAE VAT is AED 5, and a 10% Bahraini VAT would be AED 10 on the same pre-tax price, so the customer-facing tax is AED 5 higher before duty. On noon's lane you do not set that price. noon says it starts from your UAE price and adjusts for the destination VAT rate, import duties and a cross-border logistics fee. If you sell from your own store, your price display decides who bears the difference.
Do you need a Bahraini commercial registration to sell online?
The US guide says that in 2021 Bahrain enacted legislation requiring businesses with an online sales presence to apply for and receive an approved commercial registration, and that the Ministry of Industry and Commerce permits 100 percent foreign ownership of businesses that conduct online sales activities in Bahrain. The business registration portal is Sijilat (https://www.sijilat.bh/).
The page does not say whether a foreign company that only ships to Bahrain, without operating a Bahraini site or entity, is covered. Treat that as unanswered. If you plan to run a Bahrain-facing store, ask the ministry or a Bahraini adviser before launch.
Check this first. If your only Bahrain sales come through noon's automatic lane, you are not running your own Bahrain store. Do not register a Bahraini company because of that alone; ask noon and a Bahrain adviser what, if anything, your own business needs.
Which route fits you?
| Route | Setup | Bahrain-side questions |
|---|---|---|
| noon GCC lane | Already on if eligible; opt-out takes up to 7 days | None published on noon's page for the seller |
| Own store shipping to Bahrain | Courier, HS codes, price display | VAT registration, commercial registration, duty responsibility |
| Bahraini distributor | Distributor imports | Agreement terms, product approvals |
How does Bahrain compare with Kuwait for a UAE seller?
| Point | Bahrain | Kuwait |
|---|---|---|
| VAT | 10% (US guide, 1 December 2025) | None implemented (US guide, 23 April 2026) |
| Import duty on most goods | 5% | 5% on CIF value |
| Online-sales registration | Approved commercial registration required by a 2021 law | Not found in the sources we opened |
| noon seller account | None; UAE lane | None; UAE lane |
The Bahrain figures are sourced above; the Kuwait column is from our Kuwait guide.
What should you check before your first Bahrain sale?
- Open your noon Seller Lab sales report and filter by customer country, so you know whether Bahrain orders already exist.
- Check that each product has a correct HS code. noon says it is not liable for customs delays caused by missing or incorrect codes (same source).
- Check restricted products. noon says products prohibited or restricted in the UAE are automatically excluded and it also filters items restricted by destination-country law (same source). See noon prohibited products.
- Decide whether you want the lane. If not, opt out and fulfil open orders during the window of up to 7 days (same source).
- For your own store, get written answers from the NBR and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce on VAT and registration, and keep them.
