Meesho vs Shopsy 2026: 0% Commission Compared for Value Sellers

By Blooprint team ยท Published 25 September 2026 ยท 8 min read

Key takeaways

  • Both platforms charge 0% commission; Meesho charges shipping on every delivered order while Shopsy inherits Flipkart's fixed fee, COD collection fee and free sub-500 g local and zonal shipping.
  • On a light local prepaid order Shopsy is cheaper by roughly Rs 15 to Rs 35; on a national COD order the two are close because Meesho has no fixed fee, collection fee or tier surcharge.
  • Meesho charges no reverse fee on RTOs and reported penalties of Rs 50 late dispatch and Rs 25 cancellation; Shopsy carries Flipkart's Rs 30, Rs 60 and Rs 90 penalties since 23 August 2026.
  • Meesho pays 7 days after delivery and accepts non-GST sellers under an Enrolment ID; Shopsy needs a Flipkart account with GSTIN and starts every seller at the Bronze tier.

Meesho and Shopsy both advertise 0% commission, both sell to value shoppers in smaller towns, and both make most of their money for sellers on sub-Rs 500 fashion, home and accessories. That is where the similarity ends. Meesho is a standalone platform with its own Supplier Panel and a shipping fee on every delivered order; Shopsy is Flipkart's value channel, switched on from your Flipkart seller account and inheriting Flipkart's fixed fee, collection fee, tier system and, since August 2026, its dispatch penalties. As of September 2026 this guide compares the two on what you actually pay, what happens on a return, how ads and reach work, and which one a value seller should list on first. The fee facts come from our Meesho fees guide and Shopsy fees guide; Meesho's supplier site is closed to crawlers, so its rupee figures are from 2026 seller guides and marked as such.

Which is cheaper per order?

It depends on where the order goes and how it is paid. Our fee guides run a light fashion item through each platform, and the answer flips between scenarios.

Scenario (assumptions from our fee guides)MeeshoShopsy
Under 500 g, local, prepaid, deliveredShipping about Rs 27 to Rs 45 plus 18% GST: roughly Rs 32 to Rs 53Fixed fee Rs 15 (assumed Rs 5 base plus Rs 10 Bronze) plus GST: Rs 17.70; shipping free
Under 500 g, national, COD, deliveredShipping about Rs 55 to Rs 90 plus GST: roughly Rs 65 to Rs 106; no COD feeFixed fee Rs 15, assumed Rs 45 national shipping, 2% collection fee, plus GST: about Rs 77 on a Rs 249 order
Customer return on a Rs 249 to Rs 349 itemForward fee already paid plus reverse fee (Rs 30 to Rs 165 reported) plus GSTForward shipping (if any) plus reverse shipping (unpublished, assume mirrors forward) plus fixed fee not reversed
Late dispatchRs 50 reportedRs 30 official
Seller cancellationRs 25 reportedRs 60 official

On a light, local, prepaid order Shopsy is cheaper by Rs 15 to Rs 35, because Flipkart's free sub-500 g local and zonal shipping outweighs its fixed fee. On a national COD order, which is the typical order on both platforms, they are close: Meesho's shipping is higher but it has no fixed fee, no collection fee and no tier surcharge, and its Rs 25 cancellation penalty is less than half Shopsy's Rs 60. Meesho's worked example, a Rs 349 kurti shipped regionally, nets Rs 276.11 (about 21% deductions); Shopsy's Rs 249 kurta nets Rs 229.81 locally (7.7%) and Rs 170.83 nationally on COD (31%). Same 0% commission, very different fee loads, and the difference is almost entirely shipping and payment mode.

Neither platform's rupee figures are fully public. Meesho's come from seller guides; Flipkart's fixed fee and shipping tables sit in your Seller Hub rate card. Model your own SKU with the Flipkart seller calculator for the Shopsy side.

What does a return cost on each?

Returns decide profit on both platforms, because value fashion returns at 20% or more and every return costs you the forward shipping already paid plus a reverse fee. Meesho's guides disagree on the reverse fee, from Rs 30 to Rs 80 in one to Rs 153 to Rs 165 for a sub-500 g parcel in another; the higher figures are more recent and match what sellers post, so plan on Rs 150-plus. Our Meesho example shows a 20% return rate cutting profit on a Rs 349 kurti from Rs 86 an order to about Rs 16. Shopsy's reverse shipping is not published either; Flipkart says it reduced return fees for sub-Rs 1,000 items in November 2025. On a Rs 249 item with perhaps Rs 60 of margin, one return erases three or four delivered orders on either platform.

Meesho has one clear advantage: RTOs, where the courier could not deliver and the parcel comes back, carry no reverse charge. On COD-heavy value orders, RTO is common, and that rule is worth real money. Shopsy's RTO handling follows Flipkart's rules and is not separately published. See our RTO entry for how the two cases differ.

How do reach and ads compare?

Shopsy's pitch is Flipkart's own: reach "the next 200 million" value shoppers with no extra effort, because the same listing is live on Flipkart and Shopsy from one account. That is the practical reach advantage; a seller gets both audiences for one catalogue, and the ads run from one console. Flipkart's PLA covers Shopsy placements, and BlooprintAI, our sister software, automates Flipkart and Shopsy ads together at Rs 12,999 a month with a 7-day trial. Meesho is a separate app with a large reseller and value base and its own CPC ad product inside the Supplier Panel; it publishes no seller-facing reach numbers, and its ad console is simpler than Flipkart's. Neither platform publishes click prices.

How do onboarding and account rules differ?

Meesho is the easier door. Registration is free, listing is free, and since October 2023 sellers without GST registration can sell intra-state under an Enrolment ID, which no other large marketplace allows; the cost is that those sellers cannot reclaim the 18% GST on fees. Payment lands 7 days after delivery on every order including COD. Shopsy needs a Flipkart seller account with a GSTIN, and puts you on Flipkart's Darwin tier system, where every new seller starts at Bronze with the Rs 10 fixed-fee surcharge until 90 days of volume and clean metrics earn Silver. It also puts you under Flipkart's dispatch penalties, which on a Rs 249 order are a quarter of the price for one cancellation. Our Flipkart account health guide covers the tier metrics; the Meesho profitability guide covers the other side.

Verdict by seller type

Seller typeStart onWhy
Already selling on FlipkartShopsy, switched on todayNo new account, no commission, free local and zonal shipping under 500 g; keep dispatch clean
New seller, no marketplace account, GST registeredMeesho first, Flipkart plus Shopsy within a quarterEasiest onboarding and a 7-day payout; Shopsy needs the Flipkart tier journey
Non-GST home businessMeesho (Enrolment ID)The only large marketplace open without GST; remember the 18% on fees is not recoverable
Light items, mostly local and zonal, prepaidShopsyFree shipping under 500 g beats Meesho's per-order shipping fee
National COD-heavy demandBoth, compare RTO ratesCosts are close; Meesho's free RTO and lower cancellation penalty help; Shopsy's collection fee hurts
Seller with a high return rateFix the listing before eitherAt 20% returns neither platform is profitable on a Rs 249 item; size charts and honest photos come first

Most value sellers we work with end up on both and let the order data decide where each SKU lives. The metric to compare by channel is not fees, which are close, but return rate and RTO rate, which vary more between the two audiences than any fee line does.

FAQ

Is Meesho or Shopsy cheaper for sellers? On a light, local, prepaid order Shopsy is cheaper because Flipkart ships sub-500 g local and zonal orders free. On a national COD order they are close: Meesho's shipping is higher but it has no fixed fee, collection fee or tier surcharge.

Are both really 0% commission? Yes. Meesho has charged no commission since 2021; Flipkart's Shopsy page lists 0% commission on all verticals since November 2025. Both still charge shipping, return fees, GST and penalties.

Do I need GST for Meesho and Shopsy? Shopsy needs a Flipkart account with a GSTIN. Meesho accepts non-GST sellers under an Enrolment ID for intra-state sales, but they cannot reclaim GST on fees.

What happens on a return? Both charge reverse shipping on a customer return; Meesho's is reported at Rs 30 to Rs 165 by weight and courier, Shopsy's is unpublished. Meesho charges nothing on an RTO.

Which pays faster? Meesho pays 7 days after delivery on every order. Shopsy follows Flipkart's tier-dependent cycle, "as fast as 3 days" from pickup for higher tiers.

Can I run the same SKUs on both? Yes, and most value sellers do. Watch declared weight and packaging on both, because a parcel over 500 g loses Shopsy's free shipping and moves Meesho up a slab.

Getting value marketplaces to pay

Meesho and Shopsy are both cheap to enter and both punish the same things: heavy parcels, late dispatch and returns. If you want an ex-Flipkart team to run your Flipkart and Shopsy account, move you off the Bronze tier, keep penalties at zero and read the return data by channel, see our Flipkart account management service; we manage Meesho for the same brands alongside it. The audit on the Flipkart service page starts with your return rate, because on a Rs 249 order that is the whole margin.
