Yes, Shopify Payments works in the UAE. Shopify lists the United Arab Emirates among its Shopify Payments countries. Until recently it was limited to the Plus plan; on 26 August 2026 Shopify announced that UAE merchants on the Advanced plan can take payments directly through Shopify Payments. You still have to pass Shopify's verification, hold a UAE company or sole establishment, and have an AED bank account. This page covers who qualifies, what you must upload, and what to do if you do not qualify.

Does Shopify Payments Work in the UAE? Plans, Entity Types, AED Bank Rules and Documents (2026)
By Blooprint team · Published 10 October 2026 · 6 min read
Key takeaways
- Shopify Payments is on Shopify's supported-countries list for the UAE, and since 26 August 2026 UAE merchants on the Advanced plan can use it, not only Plus.
- Eligible entities are LLC, free zone LLC, sole establishment and free zone sole establishment, each with a company registration number. Non-profits are not eligible.
- Payouts go to an AED checking account at a UAE bank with an IBAN starting AE. Savings, wire-only and flex-currency accounts are not accepted.
- Shopify's UAE pages we read do not publish a card rate, so get the exact fee from your own Shopify admin before you price products.

Is Shopify Payments available to every UAE store?
No. Availability depends on your Shopify plan and on your business type. As of October 2026 the two public facts are these:
- The Shopify changelog dated 26 August 2026 says the Advanced plan is now supported and that, before this, the option was limited to Plus.
- Shopify's UAE requirements page lists the business types that can apply, and says non-profit organisations are not currently eligible.
The requirements page we read did not mention a plan. Older forum posts that say "Shopify Payments is not available in the UAE" are out of date. If your admin does not offer Shopify Payments, check your plan first, then your entity type. For the wider store set-up, see our guide to Shopify in the UAE.
Check this first. The plan rule changed in August 2026. Confirm in your own Shopify admin under Settings, then Payments, because Shopify can change eligibility without notice.
Which business types can use Shopify Payments in the UAE?
Shopify lists four eligible types: LLC, free zone LLC, sole establishment and free zone sole establishment. You also need a company registration number (CRN).
| Your situation | Likely fit |
|---|---|
| Mainland LLC with a trade license | Eligible entity type |
| Free zone company (LLC) | Eligible entity type |
| Sole establishment or free zone sole establishment | Eligible entity type |
| Freelancer permit holder | Shopify asks sole establishments for a trade license or freelancer permit |
| Non-profit | Not eligible |
| No UAE license yet | Not covered by the list; see below |
If you do not have a license yet, read what license you need to sell online in the UAE first. Shopify's page does not say whether an e-trader license is accepted, so ask Shopify support in writing rather than assume.
What bank account does Shopify Payments need?
Shopify's UAE rules for the payout account are specific:
- It must be a checking (current) account at a UAE-based bank, in AED.
- The IBAN must start with AE.
- It must be eligible for domestic and international transfers.
- An LLC needs a business account in the business name. A sole establishment needs an individual account in the owner's legal name.
- Savings accounts, wire-only checking accounts, flex-currency accounts and money transfer services are not supported.
USD payouts are available only through Multi-Currency Payouts, and only if you are eligible. If your company bank account is not open yet, start with business bank accounts for UAE e-commerce, because it is usually the slowest step.
What documents does Shopify ask for?
From the same Shopify page:
- Photo ID for the account representative, executives and owners. UAE or GCC nationals living in the UAE give a passport and Emirates ID. Foreign nationals living in the UAE also give a residence visa. Anyone not living in the UAE gives a passport.
- Sole establishments: a trade license or freelancer permit.
- LLCs: a trade license, a memorandum of association and proof of bank account. Shopify says the proof must be issued within the past six months.
Also, Shopify says you must secure your account with two-step authentication to use Shopify Payments.
Names must match across all documents. A trading name on the storefront that differs from the license name is the usual reason verification stalls; fix it before you submit.
What does Shopify Payments cost in the UAE?
We could not find a UAE card rate on any Shopify page we opened, so we are not quoting one. Third-party comparison sites list generic US-style rates, and those are not UAE prices. Open your Shopify admin, go to Payments and read the rates shown for your plan and store currency. Then compare the total cost against the alternatives in the best payment gateway for UAE stores.
When you compare, check four things in writing:
- the percentage and any fixed fee per card transaction;
- how Shopify charges for international cards or currency conversion;
- the payout schedule to your AED account;
- the chargeback fee and the reserve or hold rules.
Shopify's pages we read did not state the payout schedule or hold rules for the UAE, so treat them as unknown until you see them in your account.
What can you add on top of Shopify Payments?
Shopify Payments takes cards. Many UAE shoppers also expect cash on delivery and buy-now-pay-later. Shopify's help page says you can add manual methods such as cash on delivery and bank transfers. Tabby has a Shopify plugin, covered in the Tabby merchant guide. The Tamara merchant guide covers its main rival, and cash on delivery for UAE sellers covers the operational side of COD.
What if Shopify Payments is not available to you?
You have three practical routes:
- Upgrade or change plan if the only blocker is the plan tier.
- Use a third-party gateway that serves UAE merchants. Check whether your plan adds any fee for using an outside gateway. Our payment gateway comparison lists the options.
- Sell on a marketplace first. Amazon.ae and noon handle checkout and payouts, so you do not need your own gateway to start. See how to sell on noon.
What goes wrong most often?
- Wrong account type. A savings or flex-currency account is rejected for payouts.
- Proof of bank account is too old. Shopify wants it issued within six months.
- Prohibited business. Shopify says certain businesses are not allowed and refers to the Shopify Payments Terms of Service for the UAE. Read it before you build a catalogue around regulated goods.
- Name mismatch between license, bank account and store.
- Assuming a refusal is final. Shopify can ask for more documents; reply with the exact document it names.
FAQ
Does Shopify Payments work in the UAE in 2026? Yes. The UAE is on Shopify's supported-countries list, and since 26 August 2026 merchants on the Advanced plan can use it as well as Plus. You must be an eligible UAE entity with a company registration number, pass verification and have an AED checking account.
Can I use Shopify Payments with a freelancer permit? Shopify's page says sole establishments provide a trade license or a freelancer permit, so a permit is a listed document for that entity type. It also requires a company registration number. Ask Shopify support to confirm your exact case before you build around it.
Which bank account does Shopify Payments pay into? An AED checking account at a UAE bank with an IBAN starting AE, able to receive domestic and international transfers. LLCs need an account in the business name. Savings, wire-only, flex-currency and money transfer accounts are not supported.
Can Shopify Payments pay out in USD? Only through Multi-Currency Payouts, and only if you are eligible; Shopify does not say this is automatic. The standard payout account is in AED.
Can I offer cash on delivery on Shopify in the UAE? Yes, as a manual payment method. Shopify's help page names cash on delivery and bank transfers as manual methods you can add. You then manage collection, reconciliation and failed deliveries yourself, so read the COD guide before you switch it on.
How much are Shopify Payments fees in the UAE? The Shopify pages we read do not publish a UAE card rate. Check the rate shown in your Shopify admin for your plan, and ask support for the chargeback fee and payout schedule in writing.
Can a non-resident open Shopify Payments for a UAE company? Shopify says anyone not living in the UAE gives a passport as photo ID. The company itself must still be an eligible UAE entity with an AED UAE bank account, which a non-resident owner may find harder to open.
What to do next
Check your plan, entity type and AED account against the lists above, then gather the documents before you start verification. If you also want Amazon.ae and noon as sales channels, Blooprint can run your Amazon.ae account management and noon account management. This is general information, not legal or financial advice.
